Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. <http://stabenow.senate.gov/contact.htm> ;, told radio host and WND columnist Bill Press when asked about whether it was time to bring back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine": "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it's called the Fairness Standard, whether it's called something else – I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place."

"The fairness doctrine has a tremendous potential for constraining free speech, but hate crimes (legislation) has the potential of criminalizing it," he said. "In the short run, the fairness doctrine has the immediate threat of being applied to Christian broadcasters and to the church in a very deleterious way. Hate crimes legislation, if that is enacted, will evolve over time and bleed over into speech and have a negative effect, but not right away. The fairness doctrine will have a negative impact the day it is implemented."

He said he expects religious broadcasters, largely Christian, to be particularly hard hit because of the doctrine's requirement for so-called "balance." If an opposing view must be found for every matter of controversy, Christian broadcasters could find themselves in the unenviable and untenable position of seeking out other religious viewpoints – Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist or atheist – to counter what ministers of the Gospel say on the air.

Stabenow's husband, Tom Athans, was executive vice president of the left-leaning talk radio network Air America. He left the network in 2006, when it filed for bankruptcy, and co-founded the TalkUSA Radio Network.

its based on FAITH. do you believe in anything athiest? must be a lonely empty life. how did you get here?where did you come from? the big bang maybe? did you evolve from a monkey?how did the monkey get here?can you prove that?
how was it all created?can you prove that exactly? do you not believe in God either?

i was born from my parents, thats how i got here.

i believe in reason and using evidence to prove truth.

i didnt evolve from a monkey, but primates and humans evolved from a common ancestor.

of course i dont believe in god, if i dod then i wouldnt be an atheist now would i?

there is evidence for evolution, but none for creation. that is why you have to have faith that an invisible being eerily quiet for almost 2000 years created the universe. i dont claim to know all the answers to our existence while religious people do.

wheres your proof of gods existence?

i will say it again. FAITH. we live by faith. explain some of the things being unearthed in the the middle east..guess the bible was wrong on those too?the physical things now being found..is that not some proof?ok. so how did those parents of yours get here.? i know you will say..their parents. do you have children? have you ever witnessed the miracle of that?if not ,hopefully someday you will. you will have to know what a blessing that is.

edenton atheist,

If you look at the reason for all life, and all things that exist and think it was just an accident that it just happened, you have not looked very closely. Without a precise plan for the universe, there would be nothing but chaos. This didn't just happen, it has to have a plan. Your viewpoint is like someone throwing a bunch of sticks up in the air and expecting to build a house. CAN"T HAPPEN, PERIOD

I will continue this conversation with you after you have covered this material <http://www.youtube.com/watch... ;. Be sure to see all 7 parts. Without this background you can only argue about your point, but not discus intelligently the depth of the subject. No, I don't follow Bill O'riley. I have better things to be occupied with.
