That is funny. What does "redevelop that area of the city" mean? Are they going to lure Saks Fifth Avenue in beside Odd Lots? Let's see we have Odd Lots, Dollar Store, bar, gas station, flea market, bingo, fast food, and a big empty storefront in the vicinity. The board has got Saks right where they want them.

Let's get this straight. The BZBA doesn't want liquor establishments, churches, or apparently ANY type of business. They appear to prefer empty storefronts and lots. Get a grip. This area will never be Polaris, or Easton.

What a brilliant marketing plan.

Let's see...we know we need to get a zoning variance from the city. Let's sell ourselves as an upscale bar in a rundown part of the city and call ourselves Mamajuana. Absolutely brilliant. I can't believe these genuises didn't pull it off. Someone send this story to Jay Leno...he would have a field day with this.

How long has this space been vacant? You'd think the city would want another business that would bring in more tax revenue than an empty storefront or vacant lot.

You know what would fit in with the theme and identity of that area? A taco truck.

Seriously, guys, what the frack does that area have to offer? You have a guy who is willing to invest his own money and hard work into a concept. Let him try.

As for subs being upscale, it all depends on how you do it. There are some pretty fancy eateries that sell slyders. I had a tuna tartar taco at Rosendales back in the day as well.

I hate the jerks who sit on these zoning boards. They're so short-sighted.

Good call on their part - within 3 weeks of opening I GUARANTEE you there would be 2 or 3 shootings in the parking lot! This area is a joke - the "black fog" has continued outward from Columbus destroying everything in it's path! I won't waste your time naming the cities ..

I agree the taco truck would be a step forward for the east side Mayberry.

Requirement #1 of sitting on the zoning board is to have a cognitive understanding of upscale. Next this is starting to sound like a scene from Footloose and being all concerned about morality?

The best place to start is at home in the police department not on the backs of those wishing to bring taxes in. When fireworks on the 4 of July can't be held due to lack of money someone needs to beat the members of the Zoning board over the head with a rolled up magazine for being so absolutely stupid.

They could take the bar called MJ's or now called Spanky's. It needs someone's good direction and dedication along with the finance to clean the place up. It's a great place for a bar - but the previous owners/managers don't know how to make it work.
