Things have changed much in Brewster. I recently took the train into New York on a Saturday as I had done years earlier. My wife and I were perplexed by the roving groups of adult males that seemed to be all over the train station/Main Street area. After reading some of the posts, I now understand why. What I don't understand is why we were greeted with a $50 "Welcome to Brewster" parking ticket! Most civilized towns and cities suspend commuter parking regulations when there are NO COMMUTERS! But not Brewster. Wouldn’t it have been nicer if my wife and I spent $50 in a restaurant after getting off the train? Wouldn’t that have been better for Brewster? The town officials were certainly diligent and made sure that they got tickets on all five cars parked there (amidst the 50 empty spots). If they were only so diligent in their enforcement of State labor and housing laws. I had to ask myself, why? Then I realized, you can't generate income from vagrants. They gave me a ticket beacuse they figured I would pay it. I lost $50, but as I can see since my last visit to Brewster, your village has lost so much more. Next trip we’ll just drive into Purdy’s, or Golden’s Bridge.
I hope Brewster puts the $50 to good use. They certainly need it.

Brewster and Southeast make a lot of money off the people that live and visit there from their town courts and tickets and so forth. Of all the places I have lived in the nation I'm voting this one the unfriendliest and most likely to rip you off.

Agreed. I recently moved to Brewster from Mahopac, not long after moving to NY from Illinois. Not being too familiar with the area, this was a big mistake.
Sadly, the local law enforcement overlook many things in the downtown area. You will see them patrolling the main street on foot checking the parking meters, blindly passing drug dealers and public drunks.
Only after something terrible happens does anyone take notice.

They allowed droves of illegals to come in and wreck the town. I wouldn't live there or even visit if the town PAYED me. It's a 3rd world dump.

The Southeast Parking lot is free on weekends, exit 19 off I-84, drive past Home Depot and all the stores until the road ends. And you don't have all the fun of downtown Brester....

Hi all. I have a parking question. I'm a CT commuter driving into Brewster and park at the private lot adjacent to the station paying $5.00 a day ($1,300 per year). Does anyone know a place that is cheaper and in walking distance to the train? Do people rent out their driveways for M-F commuters and maybe put that money to fill their tank.
I'm looking for an alternative and welcome the group’s suggestions.

Yeah, Brewster sucks!!! I parked there for 6 hours while in NYC and I came back to a $125 ticket! Yes $125! They gave me a ticket years ago for not having a plate on the front of my car. My home state doesnt require a plate on the front either!! They're communists.

Wow. Have a little tact. The people you are referring to are HUMAN BEINGS, deserving of a decent lifestyle just as the rest of us. They wait on the street for work, not drugs. Their countries can't provide them with jobs to earn a proper living because OUR country rips them off for land, resources, and cheap labor, so they come here only to continue to be used and abused by Americans. Not that this has anything, of course, to do with parking for the train station. Any moron who goes there can see there's a lot where you can pay 3 bucks to park in for the entire day, which is a real bargain. And if you really have a problem with it, go to Southeast. Or don't go at all. I'd rather not ride the train with racist, ill-informed slobs anyway.

Do not be bullied by the village of Brewster and their unreasonable and unlawful claims of parking violations. I used to have a parking pass to one of their private lots, paid quarterly, and about a week before the current passes were to expire and needed to be changed in your car, I actually used to post the 2nd quarterly pass in addition to the current pass in my car windshield. Sure enough they would ticket you for $50 when both passes were displayed. To fight the ticket requires taking a day off from work to go to court. Having paid multiple unlawful tickets, was ticketed again on a new quarterly day, I decided to go to court and wrote a nasty letter contesting the ticket. I complained that the village's unlawful parking tickets were unfounded and discriminatory and threatened to take up the issue with the state's Attorney General for further investigation if it did not stop ticketing of paid and clearly visible parking passes. My ticket was dropped.

My father in law and his friend got a $125 ticket for crossing the tracks while the bar was down. The train wasn't even in sight. He fought it in court and there were four other people there fighting the same infraction. I guess Brewster is desperate.

Well...is it not pretty stupid either way to cross when the crossing bars go down? How stupid do you have to be?

I was parked legally near the train station only to return to a $50.00 ticket for backing in where according to the ticket it was "Front In Parking Only"!! There isn't 1 sign ANYWHERE stating this!!!!
If there had been a sign there then I would've OBVIOUSLY followed directions (I'm NOT a moron)!! PURE BS!! I'm thinking about fighting it but I'm sure they'll just add on court costs???:(

Will I still find parking at Southeast station on a weekday at 8:30 AM? I am worried due to CT trouble.

I am looking to park a car for 3 days in the Brewster area while I take the train into NYC. Where would be the safest and best place to do this?
