Our friend went into Danbury Hospital a few months ago for the flu.

She contracted a staph infection in the hospital and died a couple of weeks later, leaving a husband and two small children, along with hundreds of grieving friends.

Mistakes and mis-diagnosis killed her.

Shame on Danbury Hospital.

Not true. The government is going to provide better quality healthcare for less money. By the way, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn if anyone is interested.

You have to understand, this is not isolated to Danbury hospital...Hospitals have opted to decreased licensed nursing staff and replace them with minimally trained personnel. Hospitals have to decrease their costs and they save money by keeping the labor budget as low as possible. Sadly, patients are suffering. Medicine will never be the same. I work as hard as humanly possible for my patients, but administrators tell me to avoid overtime at all costs. I do understand their cost controls but sometimes, you need a few more minutes at the bedside with your patients. It could save a life! I am so very sorry for those families who lost their loved ones.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. I heard a story a few weeks back that the technology to prevent almost all hospital given infections exists. The problem is that by using it they would have to admit there was a problem and they are the cause of countless deaths. Thank you lawyers.

If you know anyone that has relocated here from out of the county that has the community run heath-care they will tell you that you have to wait over six months to see a specialist and people that wait in line at the hospital die in the lines at the hospital Don't put your trust in the two faced politicians.. keep in mind they started as lawyers--they have the poise and tell lies and actually believe themselves. Hospitals are businesses and have to make a profit just like any other.

I went in that hell hole years ago for gall bladder surgery and came out with the worse case of strep throat you could imagine, there was blisters in my throat and mouth, what a [email protected] nightmare. But as someone else said it's pretty common in all hospitals.

the new illeagal population that will now replace the brazillians and spanish-- at least they speak english.
sad to say many are infected with HIV and will now add to our health care cost--besides infecting others.

DON'T SEND YOUR INFANTS TO DANBURY HOSPITAL ER!I brought my 5 month old to the Danbury ER back in January with a temp of 106! They did nothing to test her to see what was causing it and sent us home with a diagnosis of "unknown virus" and some antibiotic. I asked them if they should run blood work and urine tests on her but they said no. I also asked if there was a pediatric physician availabe in the the ER and they said no. Being that my husband and I are not medical professionals, we didn't question them further. The next morning her pediatrician had us rush her in their office where they catheterized her and found that she had a severe UTI and becuase she had such a high temp, that it had gone to her kidneys. They took the medication Danbury ER gave us and threw it in the garbage right in front of us because they said it was ineffective for a UTI. The pediatrician gave us a different medication and thank goodness she is healthy now. I called Danbury Hospital and filed a complaint and they basically told me that they followed appropriate procedures. Every medical professional I have talked to since said that with that high of a fever, they should have taken an urine sample. I argued back and forth with Danbury Hospital about this and they kept insisting that my daughter got appropriate treatment. I will never take my kids there again.

We too lost a loved one at Danbury Hospital. Errors to many to mention in this small little spot. The State came in and Cited the hospital, the administration, the MD, the nurse etc...Seems like we see something about Danbury Hospital in the paper every couple of months. Public, just a few words of wisdom, think twice about going there. Everyone says well, Ill just go for minor things, as you can see there is nothing minor that they will not screw up. I question the what is really going on there. Accidents are one thing, negligence is another. Do yourself a big favor, go to NY, go to Hartfold, even Yale and despite being abt far, Greenwich and Norwalk. You just dont know when r what your odds are when you go into Danbury.

Also, my prayers go out to the family. When our loved one died untimely at Danbury Hospital, the result of a tragic mistake, no one came in and apologized, no once came in as we grieved, but rather tried to hide their error. Sitting there, looking at my loved on in the bed, not certain how long they had been dead before I had found out, it was like something out of a alfred hitchcock movie. Too sad and off to be true. The other caution I would have for families is if you can, provide your loved one a person to stay there, hire someone if you need to. There are too many instances of things happening there without anyone learning what truly happend until an invetigation is completed. Speak to Sr. leadership at other hospitals and they will provide you with the true staggering statistics at Danbury. Im not realy sure when the state is going to wake up and be proactive against this place vesus wating for the someone to call in crisis time after time. Maybe if the state made it their norm to show up unannouced every coupld of weeks, things might begin to change.

Please call the State Dept of Public Health. The nly way to determine if proper procedures were followed is if these folks walk the halls often and investigate. Keep in mind Danbury has had issues with charts being added to after the fact.....hense the reason for the wait to obtain a chart to review by the public.

We had a family member go in for what appeaed to be a GI Bleed. the specialist was certain it was cancer and made sure he hammered that home several times. Well, the fact was the patient had a GI Bleed. they kept him in over night and when we came to bring him home the next day he was in awful discomfort....they forgot to remove the tube they used to do the procedure and this patient had it still in place for over 24 hours...that's one expample. I can go on and on of several like stories of errors that we have seen.

I see they let you out for a home visit but apparently forgot to give you your medications. Unfortunately, there is no medication for brain dead racists like you. Not to worry, the nice men in their white coats will be back soon and you can start working on your baskets.

My thoughts and prayers go to the family of this patient. What is distressing about this article is the fact that it said the patient was transported by a "NURSE" who wasn't trained in CPR. Every RN at Danbury Hospital is certified at the BLS level which includes basic life support skills such as CPR. Perhaps, the lawyer and the staff writer for the News Times should get their facts straight.

This is the kind of illogic that this right wing moron exhibited during the election: this incident and the other alleged incidents (I am doubtful of those who act on malpractice claims by posting anonymously on a online blog) happened under the current health system. Also, this simpleton completely ignores the fact that it is coverage for health care expenses that is being reformed, not medical procedures. Plus, what is the difference if a government clerk or a clerk at an insurance company is reviewing a claim? Well, the insurance clerk is under orders to deny as many as possible to maximize profits.

Careful folks, this idiot may drive a car, handle sharp and pointy objects and may even own a gun.

I'm curious to know why the accident victim in this story went to Danbury Hospital? If he was injured at a Brewster school, wouldn't Putnam Community hospital be the place to transport him?

My question is "WHO ARE THE DR'S?" The HOSPITAL has many GOOD Dr's and staff. But the screw ups must be held accountable for 'THEIR ACTIONS' and the BULLING must stop {ref.to new milford hos.emply. who threatened workers if they blew the whistle.}.

This is the kind of shit any new Health Care plan by the Fed MUST avoid. We have to stop putting profit before integrity. Until that changes, we will continue to have these kinds of fuck-ups by criminally negligent management, who think making a buck is the raison d'etre. It goes beyond health care and infects every aspect of society - from Washington to Wall Street, from Dubai to Danbury. I hope the Guglianos get $10 mil for their pain and loss, if only to prove the point that People are more important than Profits.
As someone with wide experience in medicine, I can tell you that most people in the industry are caring and competent - even if their personal vices are excess and greed. However, the bad seeds seem to have taken over the entire system, so we all better get up off the couch and go kick some ass. Of course the nurses or other staff that worked on Mr. Gugliano screwed up, but they'll never say it because the truth will hit them in their wallet through liability insurance premiums, which will go up. Ultimately, some brainless MBA executive cut corners, which in turn lead to Michael's death. The law HAD BETTER go after the management whose decisions led to this unfortunate accident, and we as a society must stop making the dollar our purpose. Money is a MEANS to an end, NOT the END in and of itself.
