Bangor Maine Sucks

Nobody knows how to drive in Bangor. I'm almost run over or run into on a daily bases. For some reason everyone seems to look in the opposite direction from which they are turning. Or they try to race you to a freakin driveway or parking lot and come like an inch from hitting you. If you are walking or driving you need to be 3 to 5 times more cautious and watch out for all the bad drivers than you would anyplace else. I also hate it when they keep running a red light just because the car in front of them ran it so then you have a steady stream of retarded Maine drivers holding you up when you have a green light. These stupid people can't grasp that if the light is red you need to stop. There is no law that says you can tag along or scoot behind a car running the light. I don't know what sort of half arse drivers ed courses these people took but they obviously don't know how to drive. They hardly even understand how a blinker works. They will either not use their blinker or they won't turn it on until after they are already turning, or worse yet I've seen people turn in the opposite direction from their blinker. Ever since moving here I've feared for my life just walking to the corner store. Specially when all the drug abusers get their prescriptions filled all at the same time and they are flying in and out of pharmacies like bats out of hell. Now there is this hippie Phish concert that's going attract thousands more bad drivers because they are all drunk, stoned, and hopped up on pills. And most those types of people are selfish.

I see as your new governor, I will have my job cut out for me. I had no idea it was so rough to live in Maine. I will do my best and that is my bottom line campaign promise.

Welfare moocher in Bangor shoots rounds into down town area on the 4th of July when families and children are headed down town to see the parade. Not enough his meth head doesn't get free ride to the meth clinic, that he gets free welfare, free food stamp, and lives in a state that does little to nothing to curb all the illegal drug use but finds that life still isn't good enough so he has to get hopped up on monkey dust and shoot at people. Crazy! There was a day and age a long long time ago that Maine was full of real Maine people and the crime rate wasn't this high nor drugs. But this state is being flooded by trash from NY Mass an NJ and coke heads from FL looking to mooch off our system. Thank you Liberal Extremists for your Reverse Discrimination, supporting the pill heads, making illegal drugs legal, and throwing money to people that haven't earned it nor deserves it. Thanks corrupt doctors, lawyers, and service providers that help lie, fib, and cheat the system to get people on Disability that aren't really disabled either mentally or physically. Thanks Maine for having more Meth clinics per capita than Mass and building Casinos instead of real jobs and upscale services.

Marijuana's an HERB whose psychoactive properties are relatively BENIGN when compared to hard drugs and even legal alcohol.

Criminalizing it in the first place is what we should call "psychotic-active" !!!

Actually research has shown that there are very damaging effects on the human brain by pot smoking, specially in young adults that include schizophrenia. The thing is that most Americans side with drug use of most kinds including smoking pot because America is full of hedonistic people. Also business, government, pharmacies, and doctors are all realizing they can make MONEY and lots of it by selling marijuana to pot smoking liberal extremist hippies, so it's becoming more and more legal in hedonistic countries like the US. Therefore any research that doesn't support it's use is hidden such as serious medical journals that point out the long term and permanent damage pot smoking can do.

Why do you categorize all marijuana users as "liberals", "hippies", and even "hedonists"? Has it ever occurred to you that they could be ordinary responsible folks who enjoy its relaxing effects after a hard day of work?

And the 'brain damage' part: How about the late Carl Sagan?!

And yes, not everything natural is harmless, but if natural (as opposed to processed, refined, and 'condensed') the propensity for harm is reduced: E.g. smoking opium versus shooting heroin.

Move to Orono we are superior to those scum bags in Bangor. Don't judge all places by Bangor. The only reason we in Orono come to Bangor is to either go to WalMart or the Mall or perhaps a concert or like today I find myself visiting another campus but other than that you would not catch me hanging out with the low life scum of the Earth that reside in such a place as Bangor. When I say Orono Rules and Bangor Drools I mean that literally. Most residents of bangor do too many drugs are nothing but brainless slubs drooling on their own shirts. Residents of Bangor are rather uneducated morons with bad attitudes. At least in Orono we devote our lives to working hard and to higher education. So ya like I said don't judge all of this state by that scuzbag city called Bangor. The most Bangor has to offer is that it's sort of a tiny no nothing HUB to get in and out of Maine via the Airport or the two Bus lines located there and easy access to I-95 South.

Since you are from East Greenbush NY it nullifies any of your comments. No one takes someone from Mass, NY, or NJ seriously ha ha

Hey man I agree whole heartedly. I live in Bangor but go to School in Orono and it sucks man! People in Bangor are weird because often someone will walk by you and mumble something that sounds like an insult even if you don't even know that person. Or they will shout profanity out their car window as they drive by even if you have never seen them before in your life. One time was walking home and some people were laughing as I walked past. I didn't mind except that it sounded like they were being sarcastic. I turned and simply said "Hi, how ya doin." and one of them said "what are you looking at [email protected]?" and the girl next to him told me to "F the hell off". So I keep walking and all the while wondering why these people are acting like paranoid freaks in Bangor? I know the problem isn't with me because for 1 thing I don't know these people and 2 I have never encountered such strange behavior up in Orono or even down in Augusta where I grew up.

PS Also I'm 5'11, 198 pounds, and don't dress gay nor do I sound gay. In fact I'm not even gay though I did choose a girls name for the screen name for this post just to be funny. So anyway it's not like the people on the steps had any reason to suspect I was even gay.

We came up to Maine for this summer 2013 to stay with a friend who moved up here a couple years ago. We got Phish tickets and was planing on a great summer. But we were very disapointed because the Maine tourist ads, chamber of commerce, and other travel agencies all made it sound like Bangor Maine is on the coast but it is NOT. We were hoping to sit at the so called "Water Front" and enjoy the concert at this brand new outdoor stadium thing. But instead it's just some long lawn thing with some cheap scaffolding stage and the so called "Ocean" is nothing but a river that leads to the ocean miles away down stream. In fact to get to the actual ocean we had to drive 45 minutes just to get to some inlet and even then another 20 minutes to any view of the actual Atlantic Ocean so a drive that was well over an hour. We even drove the other way a few days later to get down to Bar Harbor and still it took us an hour and a half of driving. So we feel lied to from the tourist agencies. Also lied to about how great and fantastic their stupid new outdoor stadium was. It's NOT even a stadium it's just some lawn with your garden variety pre-fab stage. And the real hilarious part was that there are rail road tracks that cut through the entire area. What's up with that? The tracks run through the Sea Dog parking lot which isan over rated restaurant with terrible food and high prices. That is built under some dirty highway over pass. So the whole area is just weird. Then the tracks run right through the rest of the water front as well as the park. There are are times they literally have to stop traffic and pedestrians while the train moves through. ha ha ha What a bunch of hicks. So yea there is NO real ocean view, no real stage, no real park, and some weird rail road tracks running right through the center of it. Also we love Phish but they simply sucked but we think it's due to the terrible acoustics or something. And one last complaint is that since we've been here all summer we have never seen so many illegal drugs in all our lives. I mean we could see people shooting up and snorting lines right in public, as well as drinking in public areas that are not designated drinking areas. On top of that their Bangor Fair sucked bad. It's in some broken up parking lot with no real rides to speak of. Their fire works sucked too and people seemed pushy and not all that friendly. Heck we've been to California to Florida and even to Virginia and have still had a far better time. Our trip is almost over and thank God because Bangor Maine sucks. Too full of terrible services, people that LIE all the time, and way too many Meth heads. I can't say I have never tried pot or other drugs but people in Maine seem to take it too far take it to scary level.

I grew up just outside of Brewer but moved to Bangor about 6 years ago and hate it here. People act like punks even adults. Just today I was at the corner store getting something out of a cooler. When I stopped back this tall skinny dude was right behind me and grabbed the door. I thought nothing of it because it was obvious he wanted to get to the cooler next before the door closed. But it was odd he was so incredibly close behind me. Then at the cash register after I made my purchase I took a slight step backwards before turning to leave and again this tall skinny dude was standing so close to me I almost stepped on his foot. The strange thing is for him to even be there meant the he also cut in front of a man that should have been behind me. As I left I saw this rather smug arrogant look on his face as if he was looking down at me for some reason. Though I didn't do anything wrong. I've noticed that a LOT in Bangor how pushy people are and how immature they are for their age. I stopped shopping at one gas station when I kept running into this big fat man that usually wears business looking clothes. He would also saddle up to me at the cooler or follow me around isles just to bump into me. I noticed he drove a nice looking black car with UMaine license plates so I get the impression he is an "office worker" of some kind, so I just can't figure out why the rotten attitudes and arrogance. It's not like I'm dressed in weird clothes nor do I act strange, nor do I give people dirty looks. I also noticed that people drive like aholes in Bangor as well. Just selfish people. I've seen people my age in their mid 30s acting like teen age punks or like they are all gangsta or something or territorial. I've even met people in their 50s that act like meat head pushy thugs. Just very rude arrogant people. Not like Maine used to be a few decades ago. I graduate from a local community college next year and as soon as I do I'm moving away. I returned to college in my 30s so I could get a better job and I was gonna move out of state back then but decided to stay but I regret that now because I hate the college I'm at now. Some of the instructors are very biased and don't seem that knowledgeable. But my big problem is that too many times I just want to go to a corner store to get milk, soda, or even beer without some punk acting like I'm in his way. Even though I'm 5'10" he thought I was inferior because I am shorter? I don't know. All I know is that people are too shallow these days too judgmental over stuff that doesn't even matter. Either they think they own everything around them and or they simply don't like your face. There is little to no respect in places like Bangor. I simply wanted to go to the store without another pushy punk giving me the stink eye or trying to intimidate me by standing one inch behind me. Not to sound judgmental myself but I do notice a lot of them that do this are either welfare abusers, men that were in the military, or people unhappy with perhaps their dead end jobs at failing schools. But again who knows??? All I know is when I graduate I'm outta here!

I'm from Dover-Foxcroft and we had our problems there too. Several school bullies and drug abuse but most people were nice and friendly. It wasn't a bad place to live but no jobs so after I graduated several years ago I moved to Bangor. Talk about culture shock?! I had no idea Bangor was so bad! Just about everyone I've met is addicted to drugs, unemployed, and mooching off the system. People here are extremely rude and mouthy and dangerous. Too many people carry knives with them which scares me and it's not just by those trying to protect themselves there are a lot of punks in Bangor that carry knives just to be creepy freaks. I'm saving up money like most good people to move away. I don't really want to move north again and I do want to stay in Maine so I'm researching better towns and cities where I can find work and feel safe to live. Besides most people I've met in Bangor seem very stupid and uneducated. If a place is ever suffering from what they call "the brain drain" Bangor is certainly it. I know Portland has high crime too but I might live down around that area simply to be near smarter people and more jobs however I'd probably live outside the city. But at least down there I've met more intelligent people. One reason I moved to Bangor was that I wanted to stay close to were I grew up but I had no idea how terrible the drug abuse is nor how difficult people are to get along with here. Bangors full of morons.

I've been up here for the last year visiting a sick friend after her operation but I have to say this place SUCKS! She's moving back down to Florida and I'm headed strait to VA in a couple months. People in Maine are awful mean two faced monsters. All most people care about is abusing prescriptions and also mooching money of us. I know at least 7 people that owe me money and none of them are returning my calls or made any attempt to pay us back. Mainers will just take your money and run just to go buy more pills and other drugs. Also we've seen more people carrying and waving knives around and other concealed weapons than I did when I visited places like Mass. I though Maine was supposed to be a nice place but it is not. It's poor dirty and the people are hurtful.

I agree. Ever since we came to Maine a while back most people we know are very dirty in Bangor. Some of them have lots of pets and let them shit on the floors of their apartments. They are very condescending people too even though they are not very educated. And I've never seen so many money moochers and pill heads in all my life. We heard on the news last year that Maine has the highest prescription drug abuse problem in the nation and I totally believe it. Also people are very two faced in Maine and can smile to your face and stab you in the back just like I've read other people say here. I know there are two faced people everywhere and that it's not just Maine but Mainers really take the cake when it comes to being two faced and mean. And yes these people are dirty they stink like failure.

Actually it is. Most small Maine towns have tons of alcoholics in them and Maine statistically has a prescription drug abuse problem highest in the nation. It also has more babies born addicted to pain killers in the nation. It's not just the Maine cities it's their small towns. It's sad to think this state has so many women that simply don't care about their babies. I'm so happy to be moving away soon.
