Interesting.... Keever is far to liberal to win the general election, but can certainly win the primary - setting the stage for a Repub victory in the fall. I wonder how the educated Dems in Raleigh and DC feel about giving away this seat to a Repub? After all, Keever might just win the primary, but her anti-church, pro-abortion, gay rights, pro tax left views will keep her from winning the general election. hmmmm. If Dems tear themselves apart like this, the Repubs in WNC just might be back in the game.
exactly how has a Dem majority benefitted WNC? You can't find a single poster on any of these threads saying even the most remotely positive thing about how the area has improved because of anything done by the Dem-controlled legislature.

Try looking beyond party, if you can, and look toward what these folks do. Between Hunt and Easley, the state's budget exploded. Durng that time, the state grew and grew with the type jobs most places kill for - tech jobs in the RTP, the financial sector in Charlotte, white collar in the Triad, etc etc. At the same time, the legislature's sorry legacy is one of tax hikes and near-constant budget shortfalls.

Elections aren't won on gay marriage, abortion, or guns; they're won on basic pocketbook issues, and surely even blue Asheville has enough businesspeople with enough self-interest to recognize that. Otherwise, all they get is one more Dem who will be just like the old Dems, which has not added up to a winning formula.

Low taxes, less govt, incentives for business, pro-growth strategies cut across ideological lines, at least for all but the hard left but they don't contribute much anyway. Those issues are far more important that endless debates over issues in which neither side will ever change the other's mind.

if you can handle it, try something different, like a candidate who believes that certain rights accrue to citizens simply because they are citizens, not because the govt gave them out. Rights are not for hte govt to dole out like political favors. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are pretty clear.

So long as you are not infringing on the rights of others, it is not govt's business to tell you what you can and cannot do. It is certainly not for the govt to say which legal activities can occur on private property and which cannot, or whether people can or cannot use communications devices.

This state's fiscal standing is a travesty, especially since it has been on practically every "Best Places to..." list for the past two decades. Yet, the same mismanagers keep getting elected and it is difficult to ignore they are of the same party. It is not known if hte other side would be any better, but it is a good bet that some balance would help. If nothing else, perhaps we would get an honest debate on the next tax being shoved up our a$$ instead of reading about five days after the fact.

I would say it is time for a wholesale change of as much of the legislature as possible. The sum total of this group's ineptitude is staggering. How in the world does a growth state like this one consistenly have budget shortfalls, despite a population that is anything but undertaxed?
Maybe we can get some candidates who have actually read the Constitution rather than those who believe it is the state's job to make every decision for people, candidates who remember that constituents are citizens, not subjects.
Maybe beccause 48 other states have shortfalls because for eight years that idiots you voted for ran the country into the ground.

Which one to choose? A light weight tree hugger Keever or a good old boy who knows nothing but being a good old boy? What a choice. I vote for (and pray there is one) option C.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
