Did you notice that GT took this forum off line, why? There were very interesting comments from Fire Chiefs around the nation thinking Greenwich Fire Chief isin their words - "incompentent" and can't believe that someone could be that stupid.

If the forum disappeared because of protests by the Town...then the Greenwich Time should be ashamed of themselves.....

Ret GPD Just saw this forum over here. Saw that it is no longer available under the article and yes I also wondered why. I was following it and found the comments very enlightening. You are right, if the newspaper bowed to pressure it is very disturbing, the comments were not threatening or obscene. Trolling didn't add one comment. How's KAL?

Tesei is a paper tiger. He has a fire chief that does a drill that any rookie knows is wrong and dangerous. Instead of dealing with the problem he is going to write a letter to the fire chief and police chief and tell them to play nice.

IF the paper pulled the forum because the Town complained, then shame on both and it only proves the weasels are winning.

Regardless of the reason, they owe an explanation to those of us who populate these forums.

Hey Ret PD you obviously weren't in the detective bureau. From reading those threads I would accurately surmise that the GT took the blog down due to the ugliness of the posts.. The personal attacks by anonymous p*u*s*s*y bloggers and overall slime being spewed left no room for civilized dialougue. I for one could not believe some of the things that were being said. What is going on in the PD/FD in Greenwich? there is a lot of tension and from reading some of these posts- HATE..

Yeah, I know...;)

Has anyone from Topix or Greenwich Time had the courtesy (guts) to explain the removal? Despite the opinion of this one poster, I didn't see anything THAT offensive.

Some things never change, do they?

Just a couple of comments - first, it's amusing that you have declared your "surmsing" as "accurate" - that's really up to others, you know.

Second, how can someone with a name like "Your Munky" be critical of "anonymous --- bloggers"?

No guts, no glory, you know.

No, they don't.

Same at the Advocate on touchy firefighting budget issues.

good point- a gramatical gaffe..

listen- the blog was ugly can't you agree? GT is a private corporation. it does not owe you an explanation. it does not have to sit back and watch boards under its name being filled with libel and other such viscious comments..

I don't believe the GT seeks to become the bathroom wall for a few immature members of our town's public service departments - which might I add - have a long and proud history.

When the discussions deviate from the real issue- public safety- and turn dark, its time to end them..

hows the golf down there by the way and why arent you out playing?!?!:)

Interesting observations.
One might note, however, that disagreeable ideas do need to be expressed as well as those we find less ugly. Are we really better not knowing? I think not.

I didn't see anything that approached libel in the vaporized postings. Viscious, yes. But, I'd rather see or hear a frank exchange than none at all.

I mention this because - from time to time - the papers have picked up on "ugly" ideas expressed here, looked into them, and followed up in print.

I do agree with you on gratuitous scatalogical posts, however. They're simply not needed to make any point here.

Deviating from the original topic? Come on. This is supposed to be an open forum, a place where ideas do flow freely. Acute deviations usually get hammered by other posters anyway. My pet peeve is the sneaky commercial insertion. Each to his own...

I'm just sorry that equine corpse about paid vs volunteer firefighters was dragged into this issue. Not relevant at all. More mindless pro-union grandstanding. Some view any mention of the FD as a chance to harp on this issue.

I'm not about quashing free speech - or I wouldn't be here at all - but that just gets plain boring.

Your Munky, I believe most of us, "Usual Suspects", know who the PD's are. I can honestly say that none of the personal attacks were waged by us/them. What I find most interesting about the forum's posters is that there is some perceived animosity between GPD & GFD. I don't see it and I would know. Also...it's time to let the cat out of the bag because I'm sure he won't....Ret-PD forgot more about Detective work than the majority of Detectives will ever know.

I beg to differ - they DO owe an explanation because the perception being voiced here is that the paper folded to pressure from the town to remove the forum.

If the paper didn't, they need to clarify that perception and if they did, they should recognize it as a news story worth printing.

Or don't you think a paper has a responsibility to its readers to appear fair and unbiased when reporting a hard news item?

And if you think this forum was "ugly" you really need to take a look at some of the stuff being said on other Topix forums, not just Greenwich Time or The Advocate. This one, by comparison, was mild!
