State finds 18 instances of sloppy work by Harlan
By ROB JOHNSON
Board to weigh more charges against medical examiner
A three-member panel from the state Board of Medical Examiners has so far substantiated 18 violations stemming from the long-running inquiry into the practice of Dr. Charles Harlan, a pathologist who spent three decades performing throughout Tennessee.
Harlan was once medical examiner for Davidson County and chief medical examiner for the state, but now he faces the possibility of civil fines and the revocation of his doctor's license. The panel resumes its open deliberations today and could rule during the session on whether Harlan deserves any sanctions.
The state Department of Health has filed charges in 20 -related incidents, including allegations of botched , sloppy record-keeping, wrong diagnoses and callous behavior to families.
Friend of Mike Taylor, D.A ( my opinion)
could of lied in many cases. because of this i dont think Lonnie Lee Owens should be sitting in jail for so long. Charges should be reduced.
Harlan should just admit he messed that case up.

After years of experience with Dr. Charles Harlan, it is VERY disturbing to kow that the cases against him are still being hashed. Dr. Harlan once the most in my opinion dedicated Medical Examiner carried the work load of the State of Tennessee himself and with one other forensic pathologist. The msot important thing to keep in mind in this case like any other medical case, is that he is a man. Men make mistakes and often times misdiagnose. Do the errors make him a bad physician. NO, he made a decision as a physician and unfortunately like mis-diagnosing cancer for a living person one will have to suffer. In mis-diagnosing the cause or time of death for the deceased one has too suffer. Politics (dirty) in Nashville has been against Dr. Harlan for many years. For even some of the most popular medical examiners in the country. I feel certain they have made errors and mis-diagnosed cases themselves. It is so important as we pass judgement in this case that we know Dr. Harlan. his dedication, case load and the politics used against him in effort to discredit his work.
