Not to question "The Big Man", but its things like this that are so hard to understand. Why someone like Miss Patton had to leave us, with still so much left to give, and with so many who obviously loved her. My prayers are with you all.

Something I would never understand myself.

I know someone who was a football star in high school, and was offered college scholarships. When one college came out they timed his run, and he ran it so quick they made him run it a second time, beating his first time. Now he has MS and cannot even work in his own yard, and he is only 36.

This is rare. This is like a flesh eating bacteria, except it's not bacteria but an allergic reaction. I've never seen it, but heard about it.

It's a bad way to go.

Tragedy visits all, regardless of looks, stature, or bank account.

I pity anyone who loses a child, or goes in a rough way.

Wow! This is the first I have heard of this disease. Such a sad thing to hear, and such a young and beautiful life it took. I hope that studies are contiued to treat this kind of disease, so that no one else has to suffer the way this poor girl and her family have. In the bible, God says that life will not always be easy for us and that both sadness and joy will be placed upon us, but that he will see us through the times when we need him most. I know that when you lose a loved one, these words are not very comforting to the situation, but all one can do is offer their support in a time like this. There are no words that can diminish the pain, but my prayers go to this family during this difficult time.

I agree with Rick B. It is hard to see someone so young (my own age) go. Just like I have said with Leif Brittain, the saying "Only the good die young" is true.

To Elizabeth's parents,

I am very sorry to learn of your daughter's passing to TENS. It's very hard to understand why one loses a child. It's not supposed to happen that way. I could tell from the newspaper article that was sent to the members of the SJS/TENS online support group, Elizabeth was a beautiful young woman who was loved by many.

There is a website and online support group for individuals and family members who have suffered this terrible illness. My son had TENS 13 years ago and this group was (and still is) an invaluable source of support. Should you want to access the group, The Stevens Johnson Foundation has the link to the online support group. The foundation's website address is:

Again, please let me offer you my condolences. You will be in my prayers.

To Elizabeth's parents,
As a parent who also lost a young son with a rare occurrence, let me mourn with you - but know that there is a new day coming - just hang in there and watch! I thought I could not make it - but with God's loving arms upholding me daily I was totally amazed when the first anniversary came - and I had made it! Know that you are earnestly prayed for by many, many!

To Elizabeth's parents - my neice, Madelyn,is a student at Ravenwood High School and played basketball with Elizabeth. We were at their home when the horrible news came from her coach. I can't tell you how sorry I am. This has been constantly on my mind since my sister told me of the situation on Wednesday 11/26 after we arrived. I truly don't believe I have ever prayed so hard for anyone I have never met. I am also the mom to an only child/daughter and this has touched me so much. God be with you and all your family.

Benton and Carrie. i dont know if you will ever see this but just know. im thinking about you both and your family everyday. i pray that god be with you to help you through such a hard time. i miss Elizabeth very much but everytime i start to feel upset I just remember how she would be so mad at us for ever even shedding a tear, she would make some joke that probably wasnt really that funny but it would make me laugh and make me smile again. You have a daughter to be proud of she impacted many peoples lives. i love you both very much, and i know if you need anything i am always here for you both i love you and your in my heart, my prayers, and my thoughts everyday.

To Elizabeth's parents:
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Elizabeth was obviously vibrant and beautiful. This is very unfair.

Our loved one Kim Oake is currently fighting for her life at a hospital in Canada. She has TENS and has lost 70% of the skin on her body. She was admitted to ICU on Nov. 27, 2008.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you through this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. My husband's cousin Kim is going through the same thing at the same time. She has been in the hospital here in Newfoundland for the last 3 1/2 weeks. Fortunately for her, she has started to recover nicely. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family... Keep strong as I am sure that is what Elizabeth would want

I am so sorry for the family of Elizabeth. A good friend's sister was diagnosed with T.E.N Syndrome at the same time as Elizabeth. She was not expected to survive but by the Grace of God, she did. No one will ever know why some live and others pass. It seems unfair. All I know is that I learned a great deal from both Elizabeth and Kim and I am changed because of them both.
