The families of these children need to get support & help, as many are immigrant, 1st generation and want to do what is right. Many are single-parent homes with Spanish-speaking parent raising English-speaking or bi-lingual kids. So the kids can get over when the mother or father do not know what they are saying. The other issue is the technology that the kids get access to, which leads to texting, AIM messages, etc. This puts out the negative (or sometimes positive) word on the street, and that attracts these despondent, depressed kids to lash out against each other through violence. The gang involvement is "off the chain" as they say, & can only be substituted with more positive activities and involvement by these kids. We can all say it's sad, terrible, etc. But these are all good people who got some bad messages growing up. Let's try to help them, if we can. God Bless! Lenny, What you say sounds great but, you have to remember what you're dealing with, we're talking about people that think the only way to achieve the American Dream is through violence. I have been following a lot of topix over the years and it seems like Brentwood has gone to hell. No disrespect but you say that you work every day with members of this community, and sometimes go to train there. You talk about positive activities? A kid can't shoot hoops at Timberline park without being shot (or worried about a shooting). They're not good people and can't be helped. God bless you and the tree you hug, hope you're the one that makes a difference.

Give a months notice and then declare a state of emergency and root out the violent trash. Do a house to house search and if they're illegal aliens, shoot them. If they are drug dealers shoot them. If they have illegal firearms, shoot them. You want the town to be more peaceful? You want the area to be safer, well sometimes you need extreme measures to quell a violent population.

Perhaps they can try helping themselves for once.
