Talent used in a very bad manner! They need to find a better way to express themselves. Mural on your own property. By the looks of that wall the city has painted over some other trash that was previously up there. Taggers have a talent, but used in the wrong manner when tagging public and private property.

thanx Mike, the point of the picture was to show the talent, not if it's right or wrong to tag, many of these taggers could use their skills in a more productive way, working perhaps, never the less, they have more artistic talent, than i have.

Well, although speaking from just "art" and not right or wrong, I've seen better tags. But not bad. But still I dont want to see that everyday I drive or walk. It just makes the city look dirty..talent or no talent. Put it on canvas, sell it, whatever. It is going to be a hard sell for you here, unless there are some teenagers that have the smarts to be on a topix page.

If you're so proud of your work, why don't you do this to your own property? Your garage door is a perfect place to start.

OK, so how bout this. I draw, paint, or do whatever artistic dreamings I have to your property... Lets say your car - I'm thinking a bright pink with little elmo doll pictures, and your bedroom... how bout space monkeys all over your bedroom... I wonder how you would feel if I took those liberties with your property.

I think a reasonable adult person (lets see if you are) would realize that posting graffiti on someone elses property, personal or the cities, is just vandalism. It's rude, destructive, and against the law. You have the same right to paint the underside of a bridge that no one will see as I do in painting the side of your car.

Try living in your neighborhood for a week? I am not sure where you live, but I am pretty sure I have a job and earn my keep so I don't have to live in your vandalized, run down, "tough", crap hole neighborhood, wherever that may be. And, if you would get an education and make enough money, you would move from your barrio and head for the "ritzy" part of town, too. But, then, even you would try to ruin that neighborhood, too, because you are from the hard streets of Livermore and you keep it real. You have seen "Boyz in the Hood" too many times, homey. So, because I don't like crap sprayed on walls or buildings and I see no talent in it, I am a snob and a hater? I can live with that.

i agree that some forms of graffiti are trash- such as tagging by gangs to mark turf. I too am sick of the abundant XIVs and X3s; however, graffiti pieces are works of art that are created from an artist's perception of his/her environment.
Then again, to Neanderthals, ancient cave paintings were probably trash too, so don't feel too bad about your erroneous conclusion.

While you present a very valid argument, I'm inclined to disagree. I think I understand the point you're trying to get across here, but let me clarify- you believe we both have a right to deface property, wither a public bridge or a privately owned car? Yes, we may have that right, but I believe crimes against a public institution or local government are quite different from crimes against an individual citizen. I can organize a picket protest around a government office, but if i did the same to a residence, would i not face harrasment charges? I, personally, believe in only writing on public property. I do this becuase my art is not meant to inconvenience individuals, but change the way society as a whole operates. You could argue that by defacing public proerty and forcing the city to pay for removal, I'm taking away taxpayers' money; however, i believe you'd rather have me do that than tag some unfortunate person's garage door, and force that person to pay for removal out of his own pocket. You may have the right to tag my car (if i had one), but i like to think you would do the considerate, intelligent thing and tag a bridge instead.
By the way, I'm not from Oakland, I'm a Livermore native.
