What has happened to Brentwood? First stolen vehicles then homes being burglarized. This quiet town used to be safe now you have to lock up like you are in jail. I feel everyone needs to be a bit more observant of what is happening in their neighborhoods. Just sharing this because we all know the local PD and newspapers hide what is actually happening in our town.

I have no idea why citizens of Brentwood have a hard time understanding that they have had either close or as many police calls as Antioch has listed in the local newspapers for years. Hasn't anyone in Brentwood been looking at the police calls in the local newspapers? Brentwood should not have near the Burglary/robbery, vandalism, domestic violence, etc... calls that Antioch has because Brentwood only has half the population that Antioch does. I have known for years where in Antioch not to leave my car if I don't want it vandalized or stolen. I also know that if you don't want your car vandalized or stolen in Brentwood, don't leave it anywhere on Central or Brentwood Blvds. It just amazes me that anyone can think that just because their problems are not being publicized and brought out into the light, that means that they don't exist. The developers kept all of Antiochs' social problems out of the papers when they were building and selling houses there too. Although places like City Park, Rivertown, Sycamore, Antioch High, etc... have had crime issues for over twenty years. Remember when Pittsburg was the city "not to live in"? Well you certainly don't hear a lot about them nowadays either. So, who believes that Pittsburg today is crime free? NOT ME!

I recently, moved to Brentwood... And my very first encounter with anyone out here was one with a man in his mid 20's who decided to attack me while I was moving in... Mind you he was a white man who was very racist... Prior to any altercation, I called the police to remove this idiot from my property... While on the phone with the police, the guy attacked me in front of my wife, and kids... I sprung into action and knocked him out... All this while the 911 operator was on the phone line... after a couple minutes the police finally came to my house... They arrested the guy and ensured me that Brentwood is nothing like this... I live in a golf course community and it is a very quite neighborhood... My only issue was the police took 2 minutes to long... I don't blame them I know that it is a long drive from downtown Brentwood, to the area where I live... But if the man had a gun who knows what might have happen... I believe that there will be a need for more police officers here... If not more people are going to have to turn to owning a gun... I know that this experience made me purchase a shotgun and a handgun all to protect my family and myself... Sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands... But this was a hell of a way to be greeted into a new neighborhood...

I moved here from Vallejo, CA. and I've never had any problems with Racial attacks on any level... This was a total shock to me... Funny thing is I'm not Black, I'm Filipino... I was mistaken as a black person, but the point is people still act this way in these times when our country is at war... I've had family members die for this country in Iraq, and yet we are still in a civil war because of race... Like I said I'm Filipino and I'm caught in the middle of black and white hate... It needs to stop, because we have more important issues at hand, like making a descision on who is going to run this country... There's crime everywhere and I'm sure that the crimes commited here are from individuals that are not even from the city of Brentwood... So, what we need to do to control these problems is put more police on the streets... I'd be more then happy to apply and make a difference for not only my family, but for the community I felt was the most safest place in the Bay Area to raise my kids...

I lived in Antioch for several years in a brand new house in the "beautiful, new" southeast Antioch. It was hell. Gangs would walk around in the middle of the night randomly ripping out sprinklers, lighting, etc., from people's yards. Gangs would randomly throw food and garbage into people's backyards during the daytime while families were in their backyards. Homeowners would be accosted by gangs while washing their cars in their driveways in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon. It is was like living in that movie Blackhawk Down where the Americans are constantly under attack by para-military gangs. To make matters worse, the Antioch police, mayor, and city council members would tell the homeowners that they were the problem by raising the issue of gang violence. These do-nothings in the city administration blamed the victims. Anyway, after my car and house were vandalized yet again, we moved to Brentwood which is great,a caring city administration that likes a nice town with good schools. Moving from Antioch to Brentwood was like moving from Richmond to Blackhawk.

WOW! It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that think that just because they move a couple of miles down the road that all their problems will magically disappear. The teenage kid that was shot around Regal Theater in Antioch a couple of years ago was from Brentwood. He had moved here with his mother from the Richmond/Oakland area and had a rap sheet as long as both his young arms. Some Brentwood residents have joined with the Antioch UCBN (United Citizens for a Better Neighborhood) because they are beginning to see the same issues that Antioch is facing, beginning to pop up in Brentwood. Surprise! Surprise! What people don't understand about Section 8 (and other WELFARE programs) is a lot! What people don't understand about GANGS and GANG warfare is a lot! Brentwood is being set up right now to be the next Antioch. How? By the developers advertising Brentwood as "THE" place to live, building as much as they can, selling as much as they can, as fast as they can, to whoever they can (meaning investors), and then taking their money and running away as FAST AS THEY CAN! The developers did exactly that in
Antioch! When the developers were building in Antioch they were advertising the "heck" out of Antioch as "THE" place to live! Investors bought several houses a piece, applied for Section 8 occupancy through the Contra Costa Housing Authority, were approved and more and more Section 8 participants with Housing Choice Vouchers moved into Antioch. Obviously, not all the increase in crime in Antioch is due to Section 8 participants. The increase in population to over 100,000 people has a lot to do with it as well. Antioch grew too much too fast! And, by the way, that is exactly what is happening to Brentwood and Oakley right now! At least Brentwood and Oakley will have the advantage of all the things Antioch is doing right now to fight to keep their city a decent, safe, great place to live! Many things are happening in Antioch to combat the people who have moved here that don't want to be decent, law abiding citizens. Remember Antioch has over 100,000 people and only a couple of thousand are trying to ruin it for the whole city. Antioch authorities are well aware of the issues and are actively addressing those issues.

Is Brentwood considered part of Section 8 housing?

Section 8 is a FEDERAL program and therefore covers all states, counties, cities, etc... Section 8 recipients can live anywhere a landlord has gotten approval for Section 8 to live in their rental unit/house.

Thats it, today was the last straw. Our community is under attack, our way of life is being threatened daily and will continue if we dont pull our heads out of the sand!
Today our car, used but 11 days NEW to us, was vadalized with a gang slogan, yes a gang slogan. The car wasent in some alley or seedy place, it was parked at a place of business in "upper Brentwood" and across the street from Heritage High.
On a daily basis the shopping plaza is flooded with high school students (your kids) who litter, loiter, disrespect everyone and now destroy private property. The slogan was cleary written by a kid who was more than likely picked up five minutes later by his mom to go get ice cream and then home for some wii.
Eveyday I see, hear, and watch people complain about the kids, section 8, and the downward spiral of Brentwood and do absolutley nothing about it. Dont count on Brentwood Police and their "hand's off" approach!
Teach your kids rite and wrong, make them pull their pants up. When I grew up anyone over 20 was an adult and would act like it when we got out of line (as kids) do the same, if the parents have a problem with it, punch em..well maybe not.

Section 8 is a FEDERAL program. A city cannot chose or not chose to be on the program. If someone buys a housing unit (house, apartment, condo, etc...) and choses to rent it out to Section 8; the landlord applies to the FEDERAL Section 8 program and if their property meets the FMR's and HQS's they are approved and a Section 8 tenant can move into their house, apartment, etc... Any state, city, town, etc... in the U.S.A. can have Section 8 tenants moving in and out of their city at any time. It's the program, the landlords, and participants that decide when, where, how, and how many Section 8 units are in any given city at any given time.

Couldn't agree more! I moved here 8 years ago and it has become a huge regret! There are so many "little hoods" and punks around you don't even feel safe anymore. Brentwood has changed and YES it IS because of the PARENTS of MOST of the Section 8 kids!! I don't care if I offend anyone, because the last writer was correct in stating that if you are "hanging out", cruising around on your ghetto bikes with your pants down to your freaking knees then you deserve to be judged! A few hours ago I was working out in health club and not even 15 minutes go by when I was paged to say my car window was smashed!! I am certain it was these little punks who have nothing better to do than watch innocent people, hard working people,(unlike themselves) go into the gym then jump at the chance to break into their vehicle. These losers are bold enough to smash my car window even though I was parked right in front! No one deserves this after a long day of hard work! The police came, took a report, but I still have to pay for a new window, which is maddening! They said there were almost 20 such break in's at another club in town! We need to take matters into our own hands and catch these criminals that are ruining our city! As for the kids that hang out across from Heritage, my daughter goes there and from what I have seen, most of the kids are fine. I guarantee it was not a student from the school, but more likely a 20 something loser living with his "mama" with nothing better to do than terrorize innocent victims by lying, cheating and stealing! These people need to be in prison and stay there! Section 8 should be abolished! I was just in line at Safeway the other day and was appalled that a woman was using her "WIC" to purchase food when she had her nails done, a fancy purse, etc. It's beyond ridiculous! GET A JOB!! BIRTH CONTROL ANYONE? Go back to Ricmond, Oakland and wherever else you came from unless you want to be productive citizens and teach your kids right from wrong like everyone else! The Police cannot be everywhere at once, so it is up to the citizens of Brentwood to be aware and call on suspicious activity, etc. Speak up when you see these punks hanging out in parking lots for no reason. If they feel unwelcome, they will leave. Maybe Brentwood should start our own chapter of the Guardian Angels!

Below are some of the headlines in the Contra Costa Times for Friday September 19, 2008:

Teen shot in Antioch field
Discovery Bay stabbing victim dies, alleged attacker arrested
Pleasant Hill clothing store owner beaten, tied up during robbery
Man stabbed at Concord mall during fight
Man killed while driving, crashes into Richmond market

Anyone with any common sense or capable of logical thought could have foretold the spread of crime and violence to other cities, that would happen over time, if cities like San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Richmond, Vallejo, Pittsburg, etc... went unchecked for too long in addressing their crime issues! Antioch is becoming a major symptom of what is going to be a WIDESPREAD CRIMEWAVE IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY if authorities don't work together immediately, if not sooner, to STOP THIS CRIME TREND NOW!!!

It makes no sense for anyone receiving "Welfare/Section 8 Handouts" to be living in any apartment/condo/house larger than 1500 square feet with a 5,000 square foot lot limit. The taxpayers should not be paying for welfare families to live in the lap of luxury, even if they are paying for some of their rent. Also, what about the PG&E, Water, etc... for these large homes with large lots that some families are living in? Who decides which families get to live in an apartment and which families get a "luxury home?" This has got to be breaking some regulations concerning "fair housing" laws??? It has already been determined that HUD and the Contra Costa Housing Authority have "been asleep at the wheel" in providing proper oversight of the Section 8 program in Contra Costa County! BRENTWOOD, Calif.-- After a shooting Saturday night that hospitalized one Brentwood teen, Brentwood Police tased some of the victimís family who were interfering with assisting officers, according to police.

The shooting occurred at about 9:15 p.m. near the 7000 block of Brentwood Blvd., where three teenagers were standing. One received at least one gunshot wound and ran with the two others
back to the victimís neighborhood, according to Sgt. Mark Misquez.

Police later arrived and began assisting the victim. The victimís family and friends gathered at the scene, and, according to Misquez, interfered in the assisting officersí work. The officers then ordered the family members to step aside and when they did not comply, police responded by tasing some of the victimís family, including his father and sister.

"As the brother was getting tased the dad approached asked them to stop tasing his son, then they started tasing the dad at that time there were three cops tasing two people who were already on the floor," said witness Janine Esquivel.

The police took several individuals into custody for assaulting and resisting officers, according to Misquez.

The 14-year-old shooting victim, who police did not identify, was airlifted to the John Muir Medical Center. He's listed as being in stable condition as of Sunday.

Police are still investigating the incident.

THIS IS CRAZY!!! I just moved to Brentwood about 3 months ago from Vallejo. After living in Vallejo my whole life and watching the city become victim to criminals I realized it was time to leave. To hear about a kid being shot in a drive-by is unacceptable. I'm trying now to learn more about Brentwood and local politics. I agree with the posts I have seen about being active with police and the community as a whole. I would hate to see this beautiful town ruined by clowns who don't care about it. Let's get active!
