Apparently, a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in a collision at the end of Spruce St.(1800 block) and the driver running away. Police set up a perimeter around the area and called in air support from the CHP to aid in locating the suspect. Police also went from house to house searching front & back yards along both Spruce and Pine St., but were apparently unable to locate the individual(s).

It was an 'interesting' situation to come home to and I'm not used to Police officers with shotguns, assault rifles, side arms, and dogs cruising up and down my street and through my back yard... Don't get me wrong - I would rather have them doing that than doing nothing when there is a situation that needs to be addressed.

Does anyone know if they have found who they were looking for or have any additional details?

I don't know if they found them. I happen to live on Spruce too. I saw the speeding truck and the officer chasing him. I thought that they were going rather fast to stop in time. It was a very eventful few hours to say the least. I didn't realize there had been a crash though, I didn't even hear it or see the wreck and I'm close to the appartments. Did the truck try and make the right turn at the apartment because I didn't walk that far over to see around the driveway corner???

I'm a few houses down from the apartments, too, but I didn't walk up around the way to see what (if any) carnage may be there. As I was starting to walk that way when I got home, additional units arrived to support those were holding a perimeter and one drew a weapon and appeared to be about to enter a neighbor's back yard. I took that as my cue to go inside my home and make sure that my little crew was as far removed from harm's way as possible within the confines of our home. It wasn't until maybe an hour later that we had additional officers searching everybody's yards... All that to say, I'm told there was a T/C by another neighbor who had been home as events unfolded, but I did not witness the scene myself...

OH! Hm, I might actually know you than. Well, at least my stepdad might. haha

Anyways, Yeah.. Spruce st, is never short on activity, but It's never that bad. And It certainly isnt usually those of us who live in the houses... Its always the apartment complex.

But no worries, It's a safe street for the most part. Ive lived there for the past 10 years, and haven't had any problem :]

I'm 'kinda new here' is a reference to this site, not geography / address... which I won't generally post in a public forum. Let's just say that I'm "geographically local to the location of the events" ;-)

Probably. ;-) It's that part about us all knowing each other that makes our little area a 'community' and not just another another neighborhood. The sense of community is what can and will restore our surrounding neighborhood so our street is not just a little oasis in the midst of an area known for, uh,'less than desireable' activities and characters.
There is some talk about getting a Neighborhood Watch program established on Spruce. Let me know if you're interested and spread the word.

A few years back, I think we actually tried to get one going. I remember they at least painted the symbol next to our adress on the curb in front of our house. I think we should probably start it up again, and stay consistant.

Hi I've lived on Spruce for 10 going on 11 years and am related to one of the people commenting on this site. Anyhow, I was speaking to one of the neighbors about a neighborhood watch and I thought he was going to get one started, he said he new how and has police officers as friends. Anyhow, we had the curb signs painted and nothing ever came of it. I will try and talk to him tonight and see if he and his wife are still interested. I think it is a great idea!!!:)

We have probably been speaking to the same neighbor on that topic. I think it's a great idea, too. I know he has formed some aquaintance with a few LPD officers. It seems he participated in program like "citizen patrol" or some such thing a while back. Maybe I'll 'bug' him about it this weekend, too...

Yes, I do believe it might be the same person. Maybe if we talk to him he can help us all get the ball rolling and won't have to do all the work himself. That might possibly persuade him to help start one. We had one neighbor move a while ago and that might have been the cause for hesitation before, but maybe now we can start one.

We've looking at apartments. One of the ones we've been considering are the Sprucewood apartments. I see this thread is almost five years old and I'm not sure if any of these users still use topix, but how is the situation there now? I know the environment and tone of a complex can be set by the tenants. So I'm hoping, maybe all those people from five years ago have moved out..?

If any of you still live on Spruce, and still use Topix...what can you say about Sprucewood?

Still here, and still on the forum. We haven't had any activity. One if the main people the police used to come for has moved. We also used to have renters in a house on the street behind us. Police were after him all the time. He really got himself into trouble. Also, everyone in that house moved and a new family lives there. No trouble since then. It also seems as if the apartment people have a lot if fun.

...kinda sounds like a trumpet, to me. Is that a sax? Either way, it's an improvement.
