Everything's more expensive in Antioch now because of this con job by Mary Rocha's son to make it appear new cops were coming to the schools. What a great school district the lies to the community.
Now business's won't locate here where their customers will have to pay more for the same thing. Business's already here will want to move some place where their products sell cheaper. The customers themselves will simply drive a few yards further away to buy cheaper in another town.

The state, the county and now the cities want to pick the pocket of the citizen who now must commute to areas that accommodate business while the bedroom communities like Antioch will have no choice but to pass parcel and sales taxes.
Antioch is bankrupt. Even the grand jury said so in it's reprimand for not privatizing the police department. It's borrowing now to pay extremely expensive union contracts that place public employees far above anything in the private sector.
Victory? This is no victory, this a defeat unless you think more section 8 moving to Antioch will help. Who wants to live where business's and homes are all boarded up and welfare is the only income. I know I won't shop Antioch anymore and the welfare loving city council can kiss my cash good bye. Like I said, one need only drive a few feet away to another town to pay much less. Why shop where they see customers as marks?

We now the same sales tax as most neighboring cities.

It'll be an extra 50 cents for every $100 spent... and it doesn't apply to most food.

I really don't think it will drive businesses away. Higher crime will.

Get over it.

Get over it? Isn't that more the council's line of work? Getting over on people?

It's my experience that there is always a dozen or so authorized positions on the department that aren't re-filled. The money just disappears. This tax won't touch the almost 70 million the wages and benefits have caused the city. There's no way we can afford the cost of the cops we have.
The other point I wish to make is if they didn't dedicate the new tax to police on the ballot they are looking for a way out of hiring police anyway.
There's no way to hire 22 officers with what is even the best projected revenues. Assuming they are rookies, what would they be expected to do?
The city's finances are on the edge of bankruptcy and the police wages are at the core of that. All the police in the world won't do anything but make it worse.
Antioch had an advantage over other cities in taxes. People from other cities shopped here that won't now. It's debatable whether the revenue will be increased while retarding the overall amount. If you live in Antioch these are desperate times.

I'm going where the prices are less, that isn't Antioch anymore. As far as crime goes if Antioch PD was doing their job they'd arrest some of the many crooked candidates they endorsed and who got us where we are. Does anyone recall a crime they solved? They get there after the fact. Pittsburg has a better department and city. They drove their problems out of their city and guess where they went? We pay premium prices for average cops. In fact what other city pays three quarters of their general fund/ budget for such a bad job? It just throws more money after bad. We need to cut our loss's and out source the department. It can't be worse, and in fact we could hire four times the cops we have now and have the lowest taxes and lure more business. The cops are greedy and they caused it. They are paid five times more than the average wage in this city. Way to much. All this council has the guts for is to do is business as usual. The corruption will bankrupt us and the retired police will loose their retirement anyway. They only other way is that the police prey on the home owners and that is the final nail in the city's coffin.

They prance around like a landslide when they know it was a special election they paid 22 thousand for and then an undisclosed amount on signs adds and even flyers that said it was money for cops for the schools. Louis Rocha the principal they installed at the High school who always lies about bonds and taxes actually said it was for police for the school and sited crimes it could have stopped. The ends justify the means. They hurt business, business makes jobs and alternatives to crime. They can take any more prisoners and need to let people out as it is. If they were going to get tough on crime I don't know what you're expecting from them.
The truth is, 10s of millions go to police and city worker retirements and special medical benefits for retired city employees, that's where the money will go. They never change. They're loyalty is extended only to employees and they don't give a dam about us who pay taxes. "It's a club, and you ain't in it"
The city is being run by crooked creeps loyal only to their own little click. They have so much debt that it's killing the city and all they can think to do is hand out more raises.
