You would think we need to train the sheriff's dept. so the officers have better credentials rather than add to the overall operating costs of running a larger fleet of vehicles. Why is this guy so fixated on new trucks? We deserve more depth to our law enforcement than just image. Is Lockhart that insecure to seek comfort from creating an image? Maybe I should donate a calculator and a college text book on law enforcement so Lockhart can figure out how to ACT LIKE A RESPONSIBLE SHERIFF!

OK...I'm not a rocket scientis, but if you replace the old, worn out vehicles with newer ones wouldn't that be a good thing? If he is getting them with grants then I think that's great. Newer vehicles will require less upkeep and ensure that our deputies are able to be out on the roads and able to keep up with criminals. Since some of you seem to be so against buying new vehicles why don't you just keep your old, run down vehicles at home too...you know, the ones that suck gas and are constantly in the shop. You don't need a newer vehicle.

The existing cars aren't being replaced. The fleet is being expanded with SUV's. Just like the payroll has been expanded. The overhead of operating the dept has grown significantly. The only one's arresting tweekers are the local towns.

There are grants for things other than vehicles. Survielance equiptment and training the officer is less important than making sure they have a nice new ride?

Late model vehicles cost more to replace parts and maintain than older vehicles. Most departments can handle using older cars, just look at our fire departments. They are more concerned with training and safety than how many miles and what year model a piece of equiptment has.

So they should drive 1980 model vehicles because the parts are cheaper? And yes the Fire departments are using older model vehicles but theyare not used daily for 10-12 hours a day now are they? Yes you can use grants for other things than buying vehicles but this latests vehicle's grant was specific to what could be done with it, as are most grants. Eagle eyes? Why don't you run for sheriff next time and see how well you do?

Why is the sheriff buying all these gas guzzling SUV? As large as the SUV's are they might as well just go ahead and buy a darn bus. Why do they need such huge cars? Let me guess. It is easier to have sex with your girlfriend in the back of an SUV than in a regular size car, right?

I don't have the inferiority complex and bully mentality it takes to be in law enforcement, plus I don't want to take a pay cut.

Yes. They should drive 1980 model cars if that's what it takes to balance their budget and operate within the means of the sheriff's office. A chevy small block will last a long time and they can be replaced with a new crate motor for very little money when they finally wear out. Is there something wrong with driving an older car? When people live beyond their means they eventually go bankrupt or someone has to bail them out.

The sheriff's office has a big expensive speed boat for patroling the river to catch drug smuglers, too bad they don't catch any. So either there's no drugs being manufactured and sold in the county or the officers aren't trained well enough to recognize and properly investigate or something more sinister is occuring. Throwing new expensive vehicles into the hands of people that only use them to cruise from restaurant to convience store does nothing to effect the results of their "patrol".

You can get all the vehicles you want for free through grants, that's great. But how about hiring and properly training deputies to utilize the equipment being gained? What good does it do to have 20 vehicles if you don't have the deputies to drive them? They have gotten these trucks under grants that are very specific in how they are used. Why apply for a grant for a position on the fugitive task force if you don't have the man power to fill that position? I guess that will be just another shiny new car sitting in the sheriff's office parking lot. Maybe instead of worrying about catching fugitives Lockhart should worry about local crime. We have plenty of it and the local pds can't take up all the slack, especially when these crimes are happening outside of their jurisdiction. At least they appear to be making an effort. Wish I could say the same for the sheriff's office.

The Sheriffs Office as a few very well trained Deputies and a few babies on the Dept. One Deputy in particular just can't seem to leave Ron's side. This Deputy was also Ron's worst enemy during the election... This Dept. is a good Dept which needs good reliable vehicles and could use more Deputies, but that can not happen with the budget. Ron has big ideas, which are good. He does not have the money. The grants were given based on the previous 3 years, under Philpot. Lockhart needs to cooperate with the local PD's more.
It's unfortunate a lot of people in this County dont give consideration to the long hours these Deputies work for the amount of pay they get. They do it because they love the job. Some,as I said before need to grow up a lot. A good Deputy can be ruined by immaturity and the BIG BADGE syndrom. I only hope this Deputy realizes it,he has what it takes to be a outstanding Deputy.

If the deputy you are talking about is Yoakum. No he doesn't have what it takes to be a great deputy. He is a coward who rides on the coattails of others. He is a professional at taking credit for cases that other people solve but he's even better at hiding behind someone else until the situation is well in hand then wanting to jump in and play the big man. One of these days he's going to get someone hurt. Let's just hope that neither his fellow officers nor innocent civilians have to pay for his cowardice.

Yes Yoakum is slightly a coward, yes he rides the coat tails of others. I do believe he has what can lead to a good Deputy, however he needs to stop acting like a 5 year old with a badge and a gun... One day his attitude will get his butt kicked.

Well with such stellar influences as Cox, Fuller and Lockhart around I can't see that happening. They are snakes and Yoakum is a serpent as well. Yoakum is a carbon copy of another problem officer, one who killed a man because of his cowardice. Does anyone remember the Roland officer that killed a boy because he got scared? I see the same in Yoakum's future.

There will be plenty of money now that the tax passed, once they begin receiving it ,there will be plenty of money to hire more deputies and give the ones he has a raise, it wont take but half of what they will collect monthly to finish fueling the jail costs! and you know the rest wont be getting saved for things that go wrong either! LOL
