At this point in time, with little explanation from the Bellville policeman who attracted two shots his way from the 3 escaping vehicles from Dr Gonzalez's ranch and his failure to pursue these vehicles, I had to think that this guy felt he had better take a safer course of action so he could get back alive to enforce his city's speed trap priorities at the north and south ends of Brenham. What an industry they have and what a reputation they have incurred with this priority. It makes a traveler on hwy 36 think about shooting a couple of shots at the Bellville cops who operate these speed traps since it appears that pursuing dangerous thugs with guns might intimidate them from making a traffic stop.
Lord knows, this cop may have saved the life of the victim that was life flighted out of the crime scene. But you cannot escape the fact that a coordinated pursuit should have caught these vehicles quickly. That brings another question, could a person going 36 mph in a 30mph zone in Bellville, when picked up by a speed trap, fire two rounds and run away confident that a bevy of law enforcement vehicles will never find him? My guess is that the speed trap reputation Bellville has is causing an even more sour taste to citizens who expect law enforcement efficiency to include murder, home invasion, etc. and not just traffic safety!

Have you been shot at and how would you react? You have no idea what the officer should or should not have done. There was a mother and 2 year old still in the house - did the officer know without a doubt no shooter was still in the house? It was a Bellville Police officer, what do you mean a speed trap in Brenham? He does not work in Brenham. I don't like the zone on 36 before the light, I just don't speed. I'd like it to be marked better also. How dare you make a statement"about shooting a couple of shots at the Bellvillecops who operate these speed traps." Shame on you. You go do their job or put your money where your mouth is and donate some money for more training, equipment and officers. An enraged citizen.

Actually, they need lay off about 20% to 50% of police as crime rates have been decreasing over the last 20 years.

Wow, doesn't it seem strange that this 21 year old employee of the doctor would be trying to kidnap the wife during a robbery?
This story kind of reminds me of that east coast school teacher that was having an affair with one of her students who was later talked into killing the teacher's husband.
"Noel Galvan Cerna, 21, who worked as a ranch hand for Dr. Jorge Mario Gonzalez, 56 at the doctor's 30-acre spread in Bellville, was among the four indicted for capital murder."
