Just another reason to stop giving your money to churches. Organized religion = brain washing, rip offs, and war.
Communism(No religion) has killed more people in the last 100 years. Soviet Union, China, N. Korea, Cambodia. They have killed tens of millions of their own people.

Money itself is not the problem.
The Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows".

I'm surprised these church's trust their own members to manage their money.

It's always "the church people" that end up doing the craziest things.

Another one. wow. surprise surprise.

Did you know that the IRS really can't get into church financial documents without just cause? The paperwork is never accountable but to the church folk, if they're allowed to see the REAL records. I've worked in many of churches before my deconversion. Scary how the government can't get a peek into the corruption and pocketing that goes on.
Granted, there are many trustworthy people and accountable pastors/congregations, but it's a growing issue...
I think this happens a lot more than the news reports. In most cases, it's like senior citizens being swindled......they don't tell anyone for fear of embarrassment, reputation damage, and in the case of churches......damaging their ability to raise money from their own congregants.(Church goers are the worst tippers at restaurants. You think they're gonna keep giving money to a church that mishandles their money???)

I remember my HS band program had this huge fund set aside for major purchases. The "band parent" who managed the fund somehow made the money disappear and within weeks of the other parents finding out......the issue was swept under the rug and never discussed again.

I am the bookeeper for my church and generally the only one who writes check. However, there is a paper trail for everything I do and an audit committee that reviews my work. Also, with online banking, it makes it very easy to keep track of what is happening with the money. Issues arise when no one wants to take the time to make sure things are being handled correctly or is afraid to offend the person doing the work. If the person is doing an honest job they should welcome the oversight and transparency.

thoughts and prayers, especially at holiday time, go to bill and his extended family. bill donated thousands of hours as a pee-wee football coach. his dad was our auto mechanic. very devastating in a small town. hopefully, there can be restitution, punishment, forgiveness, and can move forward.

Not to diminish your point, but 100 years is a drop in the bucket of human history. Some perspective on your statement was needed, friend.

I wonder why Russel Johnson from Fairfield Christian Church was never charged with theft or some type of fraud charge.

This phrase is often mis-quoted. Money is the root of many (not all) evils is what the bible states. For example, adultry is an evil that is non-money related.

The bible actually says, "THE LOVE" of money is the ROOT of ALL evil.

Remember, Jesus had a thief who held the money bag in his ministry. People are prone to mistakes, failures in judgment, and temptation. While we cannot excuse the behavior, we can forgive the person who mis-behaved.

Christians are not perfect people, they are people being perfected.

That's interesting. I'm a beekeeper, but my wife pays the bills We don't online bank because we still have dial up connection and it takes WAAAAY too long. She finds the ok'd fashioned checks and balancing the ooks works just fine!

There is no basis for your comment. You tend to forget about the genocides commanded by god in the hebrew bible / old testament, if you in fact hold the errant bible as truth and history.*smirk*

Come back with stats and references, and I'll consider your statement. Otherwise, I can only believe your trying to persuade the ignorant; those who haven't read history.
