No, but it would not be hard to be an improvement over what is there now. I hope he resotres some dignity to the position and not let people with big names call the shots.

I just want to know how many people he is related to in Bremen, and if applicable how many teachers are related to him (even if only by marriage).

Has an official announcement been made? I do not see any board minutes posted. Hopefully, he is not from the area. The system would really benefit from some fresh blood.
Just curious

How many of you posters actually have children attending Bremen City Schools?

I have 2 children who attend. Not sure what the point of your post is. I do want our school to be successful and I hope that the Board chose someone with fresh ideas for the job.

For all of you nay sayers who speak so poorly of the school system, I want to know how many of you have ever been in a different school district? I attended Bremen and I have to admit there were times when the good ole boy system really irked me, but overall looking back I have to say the school system is really pretty good.
I have had the opportunity to work in several school districts around the state and I have to say Bremen is probably one of the best I've been in. I have not taught at Bremen before, but if I were moving back to the area,it would be my first choice. The test scores for the school are exceptional compared to the rest of the state and they have teachers that care about the children. Look at what all Bremen offers the students. How many school districts have the type of technology in the classroom that you find in Bremen? I can tell you that many of the larger school districts like Paulding and Douglas don't have near the technological resources that the teachers have available at Bremen.
Before you bash the schools,go take a long hard look at the other districts in the surrounding areas. Why do you think so many people are willing to pay tuition so that they're children can attend Bremen? Also, why don't you complain less and volunteer more at the school,so that your children will be sure to receive the quality of education you expect?

"Also, why don't you complain less and volunteer more at the school,so that your children will be sure to receive the quality of education you expect?"
Ok, I know I am going to be buried alive for this one, but I gotta say it. I expect my children to recieve a good education at Bremen High or any other school without having to go to the school and volunteer my time! No one, let me repeat, no one comes to my job and volunteers their time to make sure I am doing a good job for my customers. Bremen is a wonderful school. I got a GREAT education there and my children are getting GREAT educations there. I have never voluteered my time at the school. And I never will. I am not a teacher.
The problem with the school is not the teachers, the year round staff or the students. It is not the availablity of technology, sports programs, class size or money. The facts are this, sometimes people screw up and do stupid things. Sometimes they get caught, sometimes they don't. But when you do get caught, you have to pay the consequences for your actions. If the board choses to ignore that in it's staff, it better be prepared to also ignore it in it's students. Before too long they are going to have a bunch of hooligans running around up there.
Discipline starts at home. That, for the board is it's staff. By no means can they control them outside of the school but it would be a huge deterant for me if I thought that if I did something stupid and got caught it would mean my career. I hope that the new superintendent, whoever he may be, can show this board that some changes need to be made.

OK Pal, the reason people PAY that ridiculous amount of money (and then spend well over $100 for classroom supplies) to send their children to Bremen is because they are afraid to send them to the surrounding schools. The fact is, the other schools, offer MANY other classes. So Bremen has technology and higher test scores. The test scores are higher because if you don't make the grade, you get booted. That's hardly what I call a good way to get an accurate account of a school's ability.

As for volunteering, I HARDLY think it is fair for the kids with both parents that have to work for a living to have less of an advantage just because their parents cannot come kiss a$$(aka volunteer).

I'm so sorry to hear you pay over $100 in school supplies for your child....guess what I fork over more money than that for your child's education as as well as my own children. As for booting kids out for low test scores, if you are in district they can't boot you out. Usually if a kid is booted out of the school system it's due to their behavior and not their scores. As for volunteering in the schools, it's not so you can kiss a teacher's @$$ as you so eloquently put it. The reason teacher's would like to see you in the school more is so that you can be an involved parent with your child. We don't need you to do our job, we are very capable in that department. What we do want is parental support and the parents to model for children the importance of education. Both my husband and I work full time and we still make it a priority to show up at the schools so that our children realize how much we value their education. If a parent can show up and cheer at a sporting event for their child, why can't do the same for them at school?

Talking about CLUELESS, you are for sure, It's people like you that give schools a bad REP! Also let me include MSBHS2000 and Discipline starts at home. Both of you are right, If you don't volunteer or take time to see your Kid's are doing their work or If they need help doing their work, or finding out what new technology that's being offered, or what else is there for your kid's, Don't bother to Volunteer, Or If you don't think your Kid's or getting enough one-on-one attention, since there is only 1 teacher to the 20-or 30 students in each period Don't Volunteer, Or If you have a Student cuss you out, or refuse to do their work, bite hit or kick you and most of the Time the teacher has to take it because the kid's got no Disipline at home, PARENTS would rather not take the time for EDUCATION ( you go crazy for sports and beauty) most of the time all they want to do is Work and Bitch, get Drunk, Take their drugs and get high, play their Video Games, and text all day, and say lets BLAME IT ALL ON SOMEONE ELSE, NOT US. However the parents that do bother to Volunteer or care about their kid's education are very much appreciated, they don't give money, they give their time not only for their kid's but others as well.

The reason alot of these teachers drink and do dope, is having to put up with all these Children that have not had any Discipline at home, and their parents that call up or come to B----! when their Children have got in trouble or been kicked out. I to never Volunteered, or worried about spanking my Kid's A--, because I didn't really care I was more concerned with MySelf and my Social Status, just like when I was in school, like you I put out and kissed the right A----, to get ahead, but last year I went to school to carry my grandsons phone to him, and was shocked to see how he and the other kids were acting, behavior that I wouldn't dream of my grandson was capable of, he and others were cussing the teacher, and daring her to do anything about it, one even spit at her, some of the Kid's saw me at the door and one girl shouted and ask me what are you stareing at B----, and they all started laughing including my grandson. The teacher came out in the hall and apologized for their actions, and when I asked what she could do about it, She said nothing because the Principal would not back the teachers up, because their parents would pitch a fit and deny that their kids were capable of any such action, and Defacs, and Laws forbid corporal punishment, if they did they would be on the 6 oclock news because some parent got mad, needless to say my grandson didn't get his cell phone, and I made sure his Mother and Dad did wear his butt out, BTW on the way out of school that day I observed drug's being used also by a couple of kid's that I know would be one of the first to complain about a teacher, from that day till now I would never be a teacher, but I do volunteer at least 2 day's a month, maybe everyone of you should pay a surprise visit to your kid's class watch and listen, you too just might bring the teacher a drink

Obviously we can not stay on task children! The question was simple: Does anyone know anything about the new superintendent David Hicks?

EXACTLY - I love how these idiots take a simple question and turn it into a sermon about what we are doing wrong. Maybe the one who asked the question is the volunteer of the month. The question was about who David Hicks is....not that the school system sucked or that parents suck.

From what I have heard, David Hicks is young, not from Bremen, and working in a north GA school system. I am extremely excited to have him come on board and think that his hiring says a lot about the school board who has been bashed on this site. Looks like they took the high road and didn't vote on any of the good old boys who applied as well.

I believe this is a positive for our school system.
