Do we just not have as good as athletes as we've had in the past or do we just not have very good coaches? I've been looking at all of our sports and how they have been doing in conf and district the last few years. It seems like this fall all the teams were down. In looking at records I can't imagine our winter sports will do any better. I would be curious to see what others think.

Ahhh, the good old days.. state championships, all state players..... ah yes....
then agian, there were a lot of teams that didn't make the playoffs. But, we tend to forget that.

Good athletes come in cycles. We have some good athletes in sports now, and we have some good coaches as well.

What we don't seem to have are basketball players that are 6-6 or football players that are 300lbs and can move. Maybe it's something in the water here lol

Maybe we should take notes from the Hamilton Hornets.

We have good athletes, there are just too many big fall down drunk parties like the recent parent sponsored Hornet drunk fest on West Webster Street. I bet its hard to play good, with a hangover.

So is the parents that sponsored the Hornet drunk fest going to be in any trouble?

The party was on Friday, the game was on Wednesday. Must of been a heck of a party for a five-day hangover.

There were parties when I was in school years ago, there will probably be parties years from now. Teens drinking isn't right, isn't legal, but unfortunately is a fact of growing up.

I believe the Athletic Director oversees the coaches. Maybe that's our problem, we need to start with a new A.D.

or.. maybe parents can check on their kids activities.
I have heard from multiple people that the night started out simply as one person having three friends over. Those four received texts and calls asking "whatcha doing", they told other where they were, and it spiraled out of control.
The coaches had nothing to do with the "party". They preach to their players about staying out of trouble, not doing anything stupid, being home by curfew, and so forth. And they tell the kids that almost every day. They are the kids coaches, not their parents or 24 hour a day babysitters.

"I have heard from multiple people", well that certainly cancels any of your credibility in my eyes, just a earlier quote noted. Nobody said the coaches had anything to do with the party and if you believe the four friends did not know what was going on then let me sell you some lakeside property. I do agree maybe parents should check on kids activities but that goes for the ones who got into trouble and the ones that got by with one this time.

I will try to answer the original question. We do have athletes but so much of the time the focus is only on one or two players and the rest of the kids know this and quit. I have watched many kids go through the last few years that should have been worked with but wasn't. Your right about our winter sports, but what do you do when the problem is the athletic director that is also the coach?

Ok, I'll offer my take on the original question as well. Good athletic classes run in cycles. I don't know if the original poster was refering to any specific sport or not. For Example: last year's football team went 13-1 and a semi-finalist. This year, we returned the all state running back but the overall quality of the rest of the starters were just not quite as good as last year. They all seemed to play hard and that's all I can ask of a 17 year old. Several made a bad decision on halloween night.(as has been discussed to death) Still, 8-3 and tied for second place in conference isn't bad. The season ended on a play in the last 10 seconds. Leblond, Benton, Lafayette, Southwest Ludlow, Trenton, Gallatin would all of been tickled with that type of season.

Softball won yet another district championship.
Golf team sent three golfers to the state meet.
Cross Country sent three to the state meet.
Tennis had almost an entirely new team but still did a decent job
Volleyball was about average, as usual
Soccer seemed to have a lot of injuries and didn't do so well

We didn't win any state championship, but we didn't suck either. Walk the halls of the school and ask yourself "Are there any kids here that could contribute to an athletic team's success that aren't out for sports?"

Yes, BUT, if that kids father is not a business owner AND staunch democrat in this town, that kid won't even get to feel the texture of the ball.

Ok then, who should get to "feel the texture of the ball" but didn't? What sport, what coach, what kid's father apparently bought them a starting spot on the team?

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Pisces

Whether the excesses of the past few days are catching up with you or you're feeling drained for other reasons, you need as much rest as possible today. Once you get tired, your defenses will be down and you'll start to fret about whatever is currently nagging away at the back of your mind. You're also concerned about the welfare of a certain person, which doesn't help.
