There has been much debate over health care rationing recently. This sad situation with the loss of this boy's life illustrates the elephant in the room.

If, under the current system, this young person was not treated at the clinic, for whatever reason, it is an illustration of de facto rationing of health care.

Should the health care bill go through as proposed, there will supposedly be an increased number of people who are to receive health care. The problem is, if there are not enough resources NOW, how will there be enough resources when the number of clients seeking health care is increased by whatever the percentage is of those newly entitled to care?

It goes back to the statement made by Michelle Obama during the presidential campaign when she said that for everyone to get a piece of the pie, some will have to give up some of theirs.

What percentage of YOUR health care and your family's health care are you willing to forgo?
Which of your kids are you willing to sacrifice so that everyone can have some degree of care?

It happens everyday that people are turned away from these clinics!!! It has nothing to do with race. It is not the clinics fault that they were so busy. I know for a fact that alot of these clinics give an hour in the morning for you to call in and get an appointment, if you dont get in you dont get in. Now as for the parents absolute idiots. I know that there is a recording at these places that says if this is an emergency... GO TO THE ER. reguardless of cost save your child. it's not like the hospital would have said they could not make payments. I know I have had to do it. Some of you act like these people are better than the rest and should have been seen first... wrong... there are many people who need to be seen immediatly. Some of you act like they are dirt... wrong... they are human just as you. The parents took inappropriate steps in protecting their child.. To tell you the truth I think that living with what they have done to their own child is punishment enough. To everyday think that if you had taken the correct actions their child would still be breathing.

These clinics fill up everyday and very fast, maybe the parents did or didn't explain the situation correctly, but they should have taken him to the hospital he was way past seeing a clinic physcian who is always overworked and extremely underpaid for what they are asked to go through everyday...

So could a site admin find this Juan guys IP address and send it to ICE? Thanks! Illegal is bad enough, but a racist, American-hating illegal just pushes my buttons.
That is just temporary. If ICE picked him up and sent him back to the toilet from which he came..he'd be back long before the ink on the paperwork was dry.

Well one thing that I really want to thank this country is for their compassion in the Emergency Room. At least in that place, by law you are not, and can not be turned away.

In this case I really feel ashemed of Mexico and the rest of the south American Coutries were you can die in front of the hospital, and if you don't have tho money to pay, they just refuse to treat you.

Also, I understand the frustration of this country with so many illegals, Most of them from Mexico because I have seen that the Mexican people really don't want to better them selves by learning and contribuiting in a positive way to this nation.

I personally get very disappointed of my people when I see that most of the drug dealers are from Mexico. Most of the crime is commited from Mexicans Nationals. So, I understand that our Hispanic Culture has a long road to go. A long toad to learn how de behave in order to get respected from the rest of this cultural society.

But just to finish, I want to tell you that not all the Mexican people are the same. In rare cases, there is people that comes here inspired by the Amarican Dream to follow and conquer their goals in order to live a better life full of abundance and wealth.

With no intention to steal any body's jobs. But, to work hard and in a near future create more jobs for this great nation wich greatness is based in the abundance of immigrants fromo all over the world!

I was pulling weeds 25 years ago when I first arrived ti this Country. I was picking onions, and I couldn't speak any sinlgle word of english at that time. But Thanks to God and thanks to the persistence of this great land, I acomplished all my dreams. Now me and My family, we all live a very pleasant life. Currently we Own a Chain of 14 very succesfull restaurants here in Colorado.

We haven't seen the struggles of the economy. For us, Our business model was designed to support this times and even worst ones.

We are a very postivie family with a great vision to see and distinguish righy fromo wrong.

SO, Thanks to all of you for all this buzz.

That's all! See you soon foxs!

You stole from Mexico half of our most rich and productive territory.
You Have been stilling our oil for more than 50 years because even though the price of oil has picked up to 140.00 dollars the barrel, your goverment forced our CORRUPT govermment to sell that energy resource for 20.00 Dollars the barrel as a fix price for 150 years! Isn't it stealing?

I agree. Look at McDonalds for example. I used to manage a store in Aurora and I can tell you by experence, the store manager never checks the documatation of thier workers. When I scanned the dl and ss card, they were clearly fake as a 3 dollar bill. When I said something to the rgm about it, more and less she told me to mind my own business on who is hired into the company. and that is the last time i was ever employeed and stept into a mcdonalds.

It is interesting that this topic should come up on this day.As it happens today begins Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.
They will will observe it with fasting, prayer and a focus on repentance and forgiveness -- from God and from each other.
In Judaism, there's no third-party forgiveness. One must acknowledge sins and failings and broken promises made to God before God and those made to one's fellow man, to that person. Not even God gets you off the hook with your fellow man. And just saying "sorry' doesn't cut it theologically, either.
How does this relate to the left? Judaism stresses taking personal responsibility for yourself and your actions. A third party intercessor doesn't cut it, not matter if that intercessor is God or the Government,(which in many eyes is the same thing). The left is rife with the victim mentality... I was wronged and "somebody" has to fix me.
Perhaps our friends on the left would benefit by an apropos poem by Nobel Prize-winning Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska, titled, In Praise of Feeling Bad About Yourself.
The buzzard never says it is to blame.
The panther wouldn't know what scruples mean.
When the piranha strikes, it feels no shame.

Lions and lice don't waver in their course.
Why should they, when they know they're right?

Karl ,

Do you really think that is so easy become legal here? If it was just about paying taxes my friend would be legal over 8 years ago. Did you know that so many illegals pay for their insurance, taxes etc ? And I'm not talking about the cost of education just because they can't get state I.D. and they have to pay " out of state student " tuition.

On the other hand,
The system is broken. A lot of immigrants don't have any identification at all. You are not eligible for insurance unless you have SSN. When you can't get it you will not have it.

I've has my SSN used twice by human garbage...I've been a dishwasher in Aurora and a dishwasher in Aspen. Both times I was on the phone for days with the IRS and the state getting that straightened out.

While many illegal immigrants do pay taxes, the balance of cost/profit from them in this country is badly lopsided to the "cost" column. And I would ask what "system" you consider to be broken? There IS no "system" for allowing people who are in this country illegally to obtain SS#'s. How does that make anything "broken"? Sounds right to me. Nowhere else on the planet can I go and enter illegally and be given the rights and privileges of a citizen. Don't like it? The "door" is hundreds of miles long, and swings both ways.

I have a relative, an illegal somehow, someway stole his SS# and used it all over the states. He found out when IRS contacted him to pay extra taxes. He is quite angry.
Someone stole mine too,and used it in CA. I still can't track them down. It's on my credit report.

It's so heartwarming to read the callous comments of the heartless Right... I bet not one of you read the article..?(admittedly, I've only read the first twenty, and last page, of comments).

The kid was in a Boy Scout Troop (glad they didn't stone him for being illegal)...

He was a violin player!(and the world's so much better off without young and (hopefully) talented musicians)...

This clinic apparently knew the child was asthmatic, and still 'couldn't see him'...

Not to mention that the 'H1N1' flu epidemic is being really over-hyped and under-worked: there's no international agreement in how to assess numbers attributed to the 'cases'!

It's sad, but feel the lightness in your heart as you type out diatribes against the illegals, who get paid diddley, and add big profits to the (mostly) exploitive employers (mostly (GASP) Republican?) that hire them, so they can go to McDonalds, buy NIKES at your shoe store, and buy gas from EXXON etc...
