Hermosa used to be a great town until the yuppies moved in, started complaining about everything and demanded that downtown become family friendly. Ugh!

I'm sorry to see them go but, for me, the death knell for old Hermosa was when Either/Or closed after being in the space currently occupied by RE: STYLE for 32 years.

Holy c-r-a-p. Reporter you've been filled with and printed a bunch of disinformation. did you check facts on opinions u wrote. downtown Hermosa Beach used to be a great place for young and old. Abandoned buildings? who gave you that? The place NOW has a bunch of seedy bars and closed shops. main drag has been turned phony style. Are those plastic palm trees???. might as well be. ReStyle was a dive. no big loss. the loss was either-or book, the drug store, camera store, hardware store, burger joint, donut place etc. nutin but bars now and uppity expensive drink an millions of taxicabs. meter-maids, Geez. Reporter you've been duped by someone. Get yur facts before you spread the disinformation. Everyone we know stays clear of HB downtown. It's joke of that city. Most overrated downtown in california.

Since when did Dr. Marten shoes become synonymous with tattoos and coors beer, especially 20 years ago? I recall seeing all the preppy yup types wearing them at the Hollywood bars.

Even if "New Money" has a beer gut, tattoos and still wears his boots, he's doing much better than you in his Manhattan Beach home. It sure beats Torrance, where you're more likely to run into the white "bros" looking harding, sporting tattoos and drinking coors.

Well said. Seedy bars? The Deck and Pier 52. The old Hennessys before it became large and yuppified. Just great pubs to have a beer. Nothing fancy.
Biker gangs? Come on. Sure, some bikers came down here. So what.
It was mainly a surf town..hard core. South side peak. Breakwall.
The writer is just another yuppy. Go have a warm beer in a plastic cup.

When Either/Or closed, Hermosa started to lose it's charm. The only remnant of the old Hermosa is Greekos. I lived there in the 70's and it was a place you felt safe even late at night. Grabbing a beer at the Pitcher House, going to IHOP to eat a late dinner or early breakfast.

It's sad to see the city losing good solid stores because of their need to yuppify.

Goodbye Re:Style!! I picked up my first pair of Docs there when they were next to the Bijou. I spent lot of my time in my teens browsing shirts and other fun stuff. You were a great part of old school Hermosa, and you will always have a place in my memories!

Unfortunate to see HB turned into MB but it was fun while it lasted. Cannot turn back the clock and cannot mfg anymore beach towns.
