Oct 7, 2009 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The Orange County Register

A group of parents are trying to get a PONY Baseball league started in Brea. While the league is in the formative stages, volunteers are needed to fill a variety of positions on the board.

" There is no mention of the well being and growth of the players. That is not what this is about. It's about the right for Pony Baseball to join the city of Brea."

So, I guess this isn't about the kids after all.
It IS about the rights of an organization. Very sad indeed.

I do hope that someone from the city is reading all this and realizes that our wonderful city doesn't NEED anything or any organization that would divide it's citizens, especially it's youth like this issue has.
I just isn't worth what has been lost.

To all the people stating "Pony is real baseball". There is a reason for the different rules in LL. The kids arms are not stong
enough at an early age to make a lot of the throws. The catcher in
12 and under Pony League will have about a 5% chance in throwing out the runner, especially at second base. The pitcher, working out
of the stretch, will have to speed up his delivery to home to even
give the catcher this 5% chance. This will tend to ruin the young
pitcher's delivery, not to mention his and the catcher's confindence.
At this early age the game should empathize teamwork, comaraderie and building a player's confindence. If a player is destined to play at another level it will happen whether through LL,Pony or any other league. At this age the game should be FUN. That's why they call it a GAME!!

“iknowbetter writes......you have no idea about the clowns running brea little league. obviously your kid could not make it in pony if he had to. keep dreaming”

Is this what type of people you have joining Brea Pony? My kid is better than your kid. Really?? My family has been on the fence about whether to join pony or not. If this is the type of people you have in this new league, we’ll stay where we are.

Brea Little League is not against diversity or a choice for youth sports...it is about field space and changing the equipment at all the fields, many of which was donated to BLL. They have been around for 40 years, boys and girls playing, learning all aspects with the kids they go to school and share a communtily with. Why should they have to go back to a cramped practice and game scheduled...the city just put the sports park in place for the kids that live and play in BREA...not that we don't host other teams of course, but primarily the people who live, and pay taxes in Brea get access to it's fields. If people crave a different intensity of play, there is always travel ball...there is always the 6 or 8 closely surrounding areas to play PONY if desired... you have to travel right now to play pony ball in Brea as they have no field allocation. All BOD are hardworking, dedicated people there for the kids, why would so much time and energy be put in if they weren't...but sometimes when someone's not welcomed by many, it is time they move on...those are not the kind of people that I would like coaching my son or daughter...I don't have a star athlete, I have a kid that loves the game and is motivated, pushed and stretched by deovoted coaches...that may not be enough at Brea PONY

WELCOME BACK!!

Can't help but notice all those familiar faces hanging around the ballpark these days. A lot of folks have come back over the fence and there appears to be a line forming. Sorry for your troubles and we welcome you back.

Just do your thing and leave each other alone. There is no benefit to fighting between leagues. Pony plays a more competitive game and the boys will learn to play ball at an earlier age.
Any of my Pony teams could easily beat any local LL team at the same age and would likely do well against older LL teams.
Any of the travel ball teams we've been with would beat most Pony teams at the same age.
Each league has benefits for different kids and parents. You get what you put into it. It is not rec JUSA where they don't keep score.
This is baseball which is a game of failure and dealing with failure. If you are not ready to put time and effort into becoming a better player you should stick with JUSA and rec basketball or buy a skateboard.

Former College Player...
What games are you watching? My catchers throw out kids in almost every game. It is true most bases are stolen off pitchers, but give me a break.
5%, more like good catchers in any 10-12 yr old league can nail about 20% at 2nd and more at 3rd.
Did you graduate?

Nice to see over 100 players who signed up for Brea PONY Baseball this season and are playing and learning the rules of PONY ball, having fun and making new friends. The first season is almost over and plans are underway for a 2nd season in 2011 on Brea fields. Kudos to Fullerton PONY Baseball and La Mirada PONY Baseball for interleaguing with us this year.

In 2011, Brea parents will have two choices of baseball for their child to play in Brea...Brea PONY Baseball or Brea Little League. The choice is up to the parents....let Freedom Ring!!!

Purple don't let the words of a few people keep you from exposing your son to the game of baseball. I have been involved with both Brea Little League and Brea Pony Baseball over the last 8 years and I can tell you in confidence your son will be in good hands no matter which league you choose........On behalf of all baseball lovers I want to apologize for the comments you found inappropriate and as a Father who coaches in one of these leagues I can tell you these comments are made from maybe 3 or 4 people and are not the view of either leagues as a whole.....Brea Pony Baseball and Brea Little League are full of awesome families and great kids. Talk to the player agents from both leagues and see which one is a fit for your son......then have a blast. Take care and GO ANGLES!!!!!!!

The way I see it being involved with the core group of people who are behind Brea Pony, YOU CAN HAVE THEM!!!! These same bitter (mostly women)are the same people who served on the little league board and were complete bit*hes!! Not to mention the clowns they brought in as coaches. Pony had the real winner coach last for them last year until he was asked to leave. But its about the kids?

Parents-you have two choices of baseball for your children. Boards come and go but the baseball remains. Choose which type of baseball best fits your child, not which of your friends is on the Board. To my knowledge, not one coach was asked to leave Brea PONY last year. Calling fellow Breans names does nothing for you and the town others call home. Set the right example for your children and stop the name calling.

What you are dealing with here is LL does not want PONY to exist in Brea. Period. They might tell you it is because of field space but that is not true...there is plenty of field space for both leagues to exist and exist peacefully. They and others have done their very best to stir the pot and prevent Brea parents from deciding which type of baseball is best for their child. They are afraid of losing players to the PONY style of baseball. That's the real story. Don't you want to make the decision for your child? I sure do. Boards come and go...just remember that. Both leagues are full of hard working volunteers who are not paid. Don't let the venom spoil your choice. Do your homework before you sign up your son. Good Luck.

The fact of the matter is pony never has the problem we just want to play REAL BASEBALL it's little league that always has the problem. In every league. You want to start pointing fingers let's talk about the leader's over at bill, they actually should change their titles from president and vice president to HOME WRECKERS......I know my choice would be to have my child play for a coach that is crazy for the game not support leadership that ruins homes and how horrible for their children when people are talking about what happened......we don't need to be involved with all that dirty laundry we just want to play Real Baseball!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone comment on the success of Brea Pony since starting in 2009?

I'd like honesty on the way the league has been run; how it is growing or, planning for the future; leadership; relationship with the city of Brea; etc.

I can. I have had a great experience in ALL aspects during my (my son's) first year in PONY baseball. I grew up LL and my son played LL t-ball. He hadnt played in 5 years and truthfully I was worried about him starting back off in PONY. Those fears never materialized. He learned the real game, was forced to get up to speed quickly, had a ton of fun, and is looking forward to fall ball!

Now, Im sure that he could have had a similar experience with BLL, but Im still glad we went PONY. I loved working with the parents, coaches, and the board. Yes, we are competitive (kids and parents), no, we dont like to lose (kids or parents) but we really do love baseball, and we love watching our kids out there playing baseball.

The lessons of winning and losing, getting upset and learning to turn that into something positive in yourself are all skills that I see being taught out on the field. There will always be bad apples in ANY league that you go to. Thats just what happens when parents and/ or adults are involved. I made the switch to PONY and I am glad that I did. I look forward to being a part of this awesome league for years to come.

Come on in, the water is fine!

About how many members are in your league? Why don't your teams play at the Brea sports park?
