While the rest of us only get 1 to 6% cost of living increases in our salaries, county commissioners court receives a 35% increase? That's outrageous!
Then they justify it by saying that "they are comparable to the rest of the state". Well of course not! We get paid less per capita because we're a border city.
How can commissioners court expect to be like the rest of the state if we're on a lower paying scale than Dallas or Houston or any other city that pays more per capita in taxes as well as salary than El Paso?
Vote, great and honest people of El Paso, and lets get these self-serving greedy civil servants that we voted for in good conscience out of office.
I agree!!! Lets start now and when election comes around the corner, let's not re-elect them period!!!

This is am total outrage. This is something you don't do, especially in the times we are in now with the recession. Instead of taking out of the taxpayers pocket, take from the officials who are not doing anything to make things better here in El Paso. Its sort of stupid logic abhout the city officials, thinking of themselves instead of the people who make sure they get paid. Building streets we dont need and not repairing the streets we use most often, again where is the logic. I have had to slow my car down for almost a year that it has taken to rebuild Horizon Blvd, I feel there is alot of waste going on there but the people we pay to protect us from ripoffs are asking to fill thier pockets again. Forget the little people that pay thier taxes and are going deeper into dept just so you guys can give yourselfs a raise, I think it should go up for a vote. What do you think???????

Ok, so what can we taxpayers really do? Is there a recall we can do? Is there anything at all? Someone clue us in because this is the exact reason why this takes place--we don't know what to do, and we get stuck paying whatever they throw at us!

If I could give myself a $20,000 I would. I got 2.5% this year and I was happy with that. Since when did being on city council and county commissioners court become a full time job and not a public service? They should all end up in jail after this robbery of the tax payers money!!!!

County commissioners as well as City council members all have "civilian" jobs. Most of them put in less than 20 hours a week at their 'elected' positions they have full time staff to field calls and do the press releases or the general scut work that the electee then takes credit for.
I would love to get a 5% increase in my pay for working with the city but despite double digit increases in all areas from housing to mnedical care we will get a 2% NEXT YEAR and our last increase was in 2005. After more than 15 years with the city I make barely more than the people that will be hired into my position next month and more than 1/3 of my check is taken in Federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare, City pension, medical insurance vision and dental insurance and the insurance comes with such high deductibles and co-pays that you fear having to see the doctor because you know you will incur the equivalent of a paycheck in those 'hidden fees'. You cannot afford medical care but make too much to qualify for Thomasen...catch 22

I think an immediate recall is needed for each and every member of County commissioners who voted for this pay raise! They are already making far more than city council or the Mayor and spend all their time either patting themselves on the back or hiding from t he FBI investigators.

I may be mistaken, but didn't we vote for a pay raise for city council a few years back because there was limit as too how much of a pay raise could be given without voter approval? If this pay raise does not require voter approval then the only thing that makes Judge Cobos dumb is that he did not request more money. If I had a blank check and no morals like he does then that would make better sense. If you want more money then earn it. The only way to get "WELFARE" money is to ask for it and only after you have exhausted all other avenues! I know you all have a difficult job but isn't that why you ran for office? If you are not up to the challenge, then step down. I'm sure that there is someone else out there that could and would do a better job for the county just because he or she has a good heart and loves our community. All of you on commissioners court need to take a deep breath and think "Why did I run for office?". Maybe then we can all come back down to reality and really try and improve our community. After all isn't that what it is all about?

City council member's can only get a certain percentage without voter approval and it is a tiny amount the same as other city employees under 5% I am sure. I don't know about County but if they get by with this they all need to be voted out or recalled immediately. This is like good old George deciding he will need a larger retirement and voting himself a 100% pay increase to make sure he won't be penniless in 2009

The county and the city should have been consolidated a long time ago by the pendejos (i mean people) of El Paso. You pendejos (i mean people) wouldn't be crying about this now. Bunch of LULAC loving fools.
