I've tried a variety of places over the years (AP&S, Eye-Mart, Lenscrafters, Wal-Mart, etc...).

As odd as it might sound, the best bang for my buck has always been Wal-Mart.

Go to a real eye DR. Not one of these one hour places. It may be bit more expensive but the opticians and staff are more knowledgeable and more then likely to be licensed then say at Tavels or eye mart or places like that. If you need bifoclas, trifocals or progressives. You wnat someone who knows what they are doing because if the measurements are not precise they are not going to be right. I worked for an Opthamologist, then when moving here worked at eye mart, only thing I could find. I couldn't beleive their training program. It was a joke. You do not have to licensed in Indiana. But you should have ot be in my opinion.

Yeah, Eye Care Express is a joke. I bought 2 pair of glasses there and they had to remake both pair. One pair they remade 4 times. They would make them and give them to me looking like crap. The lenses didn't fit properly in the frame and looked broken in the upper corners. They finally asked me to pick another frame because they couldn't get the lens cut right for the semi-rimless frame. The other pair they remade twice because the guy couldn't cut the lenses right for those, and they were full rims. The guy they had making glasses at that time, looked real professional. He had really baggy pants on that were about 12 inches too long, and huge oversized shirt. Yeah, he looked like he really cared about his job. I would advise against going there, but this was my experience.

I, too, had a bad experience with Eye Care Express. My husband and I both purchased glasses and sunglasses. Between the 4 pair, 3 of them were remade twice and one of them three times. After that, we gave up. They also duped us into paying extra for special lenses for my husbands glasses claiming that they would be much thinner than normal. They were not any different whatsoever than any other pair he's ever had. I even had the "old" glasses with me as proof. They wouldn't even take off the extra charge. As mentioned in another post, none of the lenses in any pair seem to fit the frame...there are gaps throughout. Of course they have a no refund policy (should have been our first clue, I know) so they know they don't really have to work with you or make you happy. After speaking with the technicians (joke) and manager (joke) I finally asked for contact info for a corporate office. The response was they don't really have a corporate office and the "private investors" don't hear or get involved with customer complaints. The manager absolutely refused to give me any information. I'm not big on making a scene in public, so I gave up. Just what they wanted I'm sure. I think the people in the store heard though....so maybe they at least thought twice before throwing money away, too.

Horse hockey!

As far as EyeMart is concerned, both doctors are graduates of IU Shcool of Optometry. They are very well qualified and have worked there for many years.

The people who wait on you and fit you for glasses are very good as well. I'm sure some aren't as good as others but the older ladies working there are great and knowledgable!!

And No...... I don't work there!!

you get what you pay for. You want cheap glasses go to one of the 1 hour places. You want quality go to a professional. Contacts go to An opthamologist for the prescripton then wal-mart to fill the prescription

I have been going to Eye-mart for years and I have had great service there. I have had one pair of defective frames (not their fault) and they replaced them without any problems. That is the only time I ever had any type of problem. The Doctors are great as well! I am a health care professional myself (not in the eye field) and no I dont know any of them personally. I will continue to go to Eye-Mart!

When I had my problems at Eye Care Express, the owner was in there on one of my pick-up/return trips. He was NOT happy at all with the product/service I was receiving. When he found out how many times I had been back and forth getting my glasses remade, he was very irritated with the girl who was *managing* the store. I didn't know that he was the owner. He was sitting behind the front desk waiting on customers. The *manager* seemed ticked when he jumped her case about it. I won't go back there anyway.

Nope! I am talking about eye mart their training is a joke. They cannot measure right for bifocals, trifocals nor progessives. There may be opticians there with previous experince that knows what they are doing. But a newbie going in there not a clue. Now way I would buy my glasses there. Sears optical is one of the better ones you have so long to get your license and there training used to be excellent but its been about 10 years since I worked there and a few since I worked at eye mart.

I worked for 15 years in the optical business. There are horror stories from all chains. The doctors in the chains are optometrists who have all the necessary credentials to test eyes and write prescriptions. They usually don't care if you purchase glasses at that establishment or not. They make their income from the exam. If you have more acute eye issues see an opthamologist, there are several very good ones in Terre Haute. They do sell glasses and the quality will be good, the price will not be much more than the chains with all the add-ons.
The training for Lenscrafters, Sears, Walmart, and Eyemart are all lacking in the last few years. More emphasis on selling, very little on optics. Lenscrafters and Sears had a mass exodus of the trained people about three years ago and it has been down hill ever since. Eyemart always had ups and downs. Overall, I think Walmart might be your best bet if you need inexpensive glasses. Make sure that someone checks all measurements. The doctor can come out and verify seg and pD. Good luck

Eyecare Express is a horrible, irresponsible facility. We are currently suing them for a refund because of their inability to provide correctly prepared lens and frames. The frames do not stay together and get this, they prepared bifocals with one lens prepared opposite of each other. One lens the top was supposed to be on bottom. Major migraines and an injury due to a fall occurred and they refuse to refund. DO NOT USE.
