Brattleboro Union Grade School!

We should close our existing elementary schools, consolidate and build a new state of the art union school off exit three on Putney road. The old paper press would do nicely.. The new school "BUGS" would include a PT, OT, S&l, and Counceling center. We could include early intervention preschool services. It would be a new build, compliant with ADA, security and building codes. Full inclusion would be a greater possibility. Support staff could be reduced as well as district physical plant expenditures. Install solar panels if you like. All of our children would have increased continuity in standards/expectations. All current elementary school buildings would be sold.

Absolutly! WSESU currently has the Brattleboro elementary schools of Oak Grove, Green Street and Academy. Area schools are Dummerston, Guilford, Vernon, Newfane and Putny and they should be allowed to opt in.

I like the global idea and efficiency...more bang for the buck.

All the children going by the same standards...

Oh, there would be a howl...

We could save money from the administration and plow it back into the kids. We could also bring in a more skilled and seasoned top administration, no?

So where is the money going to come from?

Ultimately you only get better schools if you spend more money?

The interesting question is are there more administrators per teacher than teachers per student in our district?

We have around 350 teachers in our district.

First savings would be in staff consolidations and savings from not tuitioning out special education. Savings in mantinence costs between the old buildings and systems and the new...Matching grants for new construction and floating a bond...just like any other school project.

The cost to renovate the BUHS campus was 55 million dollars. It was a mistake to renovate instead of going with new construction.

So it comes down to a "government hating" thing and overloading the staff, where the cost of the facility can't be fully utilized because of poor staffing...

You think Brat's got more school staff than the "throw whatever money it takes" in a rich kid's private school?

The future is a ever expanding economy and income...then always spending ever increasing money on our childrenís education and always outpacing inflation.

Well, that should be a rule for all of us.

That is called being a great nation...

Our parents, schools and community are not producing learners who are proficient in areas that society specifies as necessary for being a contributing member. Something has to change and it might as well begin with us.

"contributing member": slaves for their incomes.

One penny more than minimum wages...

It is the sign of our times when we think so little of an education...when we donít use your education to serve some higher purpose than ourselves.

Fundamentally, the problem with education and especially higher education...is we think it is only a tool to boost income and wealth.

Real wealth is knowledge, imagination and creativity...
