Republicans in the House and most in the Senate have been flexible, floating various bills and alternatives which give everybody something — e.g. full funding of Obamacare with modification of two unpopular provisions (the preferences given to Congress and businesses over ordinary citizens).
That outcome would not be viewed as a victory for Republicans, who really want to defund Obamacare; many would view it as a loss. But it’s a middle ground which could have provided a face saving out for everyone. It would have shown flexibility by Obama to make Obamacare better than it currently is, while Republicans would have had to defer at least until the next election the ultimate goal. It would have maintained a better status quo than we currently have.
But because Obama was in no-negotiation-with-terrorists mode, less than all was viewed as an unacceptable loss.
And all of us are just looking the democrats, who are at a loss for words in defending their new positions, and saying WTF?

I am a moderate, neither conservative nor liberal. I personally feel that Obamacare (or Affordable Care Act) is not going to fly, but will fade into obscurity. The funding will never be there, and it will become absurd to keep trying to fine everybody. I say this as someone who often wishes she had been born in Canada, for I do believe in Universal Health Care. If only the U.S. could find a way to do it! But this particular flavor of universal coverage is not going to make it.

"In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R)...told host Chris Wallace that Republicans “are the ones who shut down the government.
As for the Republicans who were blaming the Democrats and the president for shutting down the government, King said that he just wasn’t buying into that argument.
“We are the ones who did shut the government down,” he insisted."

MONTPELIER, Vt.(AP)- Vermont is getting $188,000 in U.S. Department of Agriculture grants to provide farmers food safety training, expand social media markets for maple producers and boost access to locally produced foods.

The grants will go to nine projects around the state, including the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont and the University of Vermont Extension Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Apple Program.

NOFA Vermont will use its $24,000 grant to create a statewide community supported agriculture network.

UVM's Department of Plant and Soil science is getting a $12,000 grant to help blueberry and raspberry growers minimize the damage caused by an insect pest.

And an $11,000 grant is going to Burlington's Intervale Center to increase food hub sales by developing best practices, and developing a marketing and outreach campaign.

I believe in free enterprise, but I also believe in universal coverage so everybody can stay healthy and not worry, or die young because they couldn't afford to see a doctor and have tests done early in the game. You can't compete if you are not healthy. I have read some of Atlas Shrugged and I don't care for Ayn Rand's narcissitic outlook. Towards the end, she was actually changing some of her attitudes. She accepted Social Security and Medicare and then said: "This isn't so bad!" The younger, healthy Ayn Rand had condemned them.

Canada has it's problems and overall isn't as good as our system. We have a couple of flaws. Pre-existing problems aren't covered and poor people can't afford coverage. We should have dealt with those two issues instead of the massive Obamacare that raises taxes on the middle class and especially healthy young people.

There are a couple of other issues that we could have dealt with. The first is that big insurance companies should be allowed to compete anywhere they want across state lines. The second is that liability insurance forces doctors and hospitals to charge more than they would be able to if we would have tort damage limitations. Of course the democrats receive millions from the trial lawyers associations who get rich off of medical malpractice suits.

How many democrats does it take to change a light bulb? 5! Al Gore to insure it’s a CFL, and EPA agent in case the blub breaks and a mercury cleanup is necessary, a person to bail out the home owner, an ACORN member to insure that the right person changed the bulb, and a member of the media to celebrate the change.

How can you tell a Conservative home owner apart from a Democratic home owner? Ask who is paying the Mortgage. The Conservative will point to himself, and the democrat will also point at the conservative.

Peter King is doing a CYA and he got permission to do it from Boehner. And it won't hurt the republicans in the long run.

Ole "Foggy Bottom" had too much money left at year end. If they did not spend it all that might undercut their argument for more next year. You silly goose! Obama is a fiscal conservative so I am sure he is shocked too. Pretty soon he will say so.
