The steel plant hasn't always been Kennametal. The facility has changed hands multiple times since it opened in the 1930s, but one thing has remained the same.

Kennametal denied our request for an on-camera interview but did issue a statement saying that closing the Lyndonville plant would save the company $2.2 million annually.

The state labor department says the Northeast Kingdom has the highest unemployment rate in the state and any big job losses will have a significant economic blow.

They aren't leaving the US economy, just moving out of VT to a more business friendly environment. I guess you can't produce steel with windmill power after all......who knew?
