I voted for Obama the first time, and when it didn't look like it was going to work out, I voted for Romney. We will never know if Romney could have made things better.

Well he certainly wouldn't have been worse..Romney brought a lot more optimism as well as a lot more confidence in the free market system. He recognized, like Reagan, that our greatest strength was our freedom.

the state and local governments are obese

in 2000 states and local taxes where $1.5 trillion.
Last year $2.5 trillion, they raised taxes $1 trillion a year.

The DC tax burden per capita adjusted for inflation and population growth hasn't changed sinse 1970.

America is financially illiterate and full of emotional basket cases who drink koolaid.

Meanwhile...

The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a new five-year high Friday, the same day "The Sequester" goes into effect.

$85 Billion in cuts to the General Public but an $83 Billion subsidy to Banks?

"Why Should Taxpayers Give Big Banks $83 Billion a Year?"

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-20/why-...

"...the 10 largest U.S. banks by assets,...a taxpayer subsidy of $83 billion a year. To put the figure in perspective, itís tantamount to the government giving the banks about 3 cents of every tax dollar collected."

There's the "free money".

It's called a bailout of government employee pension funds, the managers are having a convention in Hawaii this week because they need the R&R after probably almost bankrupting the country buying up trillions of dollars of mortgage backed securities and than getting bailed out by the big banks taking them back on their balance sheets so the pension funds wouldn't get exposed for gambling with the taxpayers money.

the government employee union rep Obomba is making sure stocks go up to further help bail out the government employee pension funds that own tons of stock. He wants pre-school for 4 year olds so there is more government employee's pouring money into the pension funds.

Most of the government employee's work at the state and local level. Employement has increased from 13 million to 20 million sinse 1980 and the size of their salaries has balooned so the pension cost have also balooned. The dufus pension fund managers have probably gotten hosed over and over in DOT.CON stocks and mortgages and the stock market.

You're concerned about $83 billion while there is $5 trillion in unfunded retirement costs for 20 million government employee's on top of the federal debt and $3 trillion in muni bond debt while 10's of millions of boomers and geezers are expecting to get SS and medicare from funds that don't exist.

It's not some dem or republican issue, it's intergenerational theft. The old people saved nothing to retire on and are leaving behind $20 trillion in unpaid bills while laying claim to a large part of everyones future paychecks.

The geezers are having a going out of business sale and liquidating america so they can live the good life and hell with everyone else. Just keep the money pouring into pension funds by adding more government employee's so the funds don't go broke until after they are dead. Both parties skim off the deal of providing the good life to a select few americans who win the job lottery and hell with everyone else, it's all about the folks living in mansions and mcmansion sucking off government spending. Nobody left to suck money out of so they are starting to eat their own.

Lay some off from the federal division and add tons more to the state and local divisions of government so their power base doesn't shrink and keep the public distracted by what DC is doing while state and local government stick it up peoples butts.

obomba to the govenors, DC is going to have to lay some off and you guys need to hire a bunch more so no net lose. They shift costs around from the federal balance sheet to the state balance sheets or the other way around to keep the public baffled.

Joe, government was overspending and overtaxing in 1970 as well. Remember the result: Stagflation which lasted until the 1980's when Reagan cut taxes and got us out of it with revenue growth through economic expansion. Trouble is when good times hit the liberals create all kinds of new obligations for government to fulfill. It is easy to spend someone elses money.

"no new taxes"

if we where over taxed in 1970 why where they printing money to fund the war's on poverty and rice farmers forcing Nixon to close the gold window ?

if you would like to tune out state and local governments are obese be my guest. Trying to spin it with double talk doesn't change the numbers. Do you have a vested interest in not having the spotlight turned on you ? my guess is probably good odds in my favor on that question.

This is why I hate MLK; because he refused to see that the people of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos deserved the same basic human right of Liberty as black America did.

you posted the government was over taxing in 1970, I posted they where printing money causing us to go off the gold standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagflation

printing money lead to the oil crises of the 70's and stagflation.

back to the present, if we don't address the state and local spending crying about DC is pointless. The waste, theft and pork isn't just in DC.

vermont has the most bloaded school system and a large welfare system, we even get nailed for $1.50 a month on electric bills so low income people can get a discount, phone company also gives people a discount.

Act 250 is killing this state also.

vermont has lots of low paying jobs and high taxes and too many freebee's for people milking the system. The problem is the cost of living has been driven up beyond what the job market can afford to pay so people have little choice but to game the system if they have to do it to get by. Everyone in this state is paying except the rich and the trust fund babies. Hard to be middle class, hard to make it off grunt jobs, just hard on most people because vermonts system sucks. But lets ignore that and blame DC instead, unbelievable logic.

The people feeding off vermonts system and doing good love nobody pointing the finger at them so will try to spin the blame on DC.
