I'd rather pay seven dollars for a gallon of milk than pass another bloated farm bill! I particularly like a recent proposal where instead of EBT cards, recipients may choose from a pre approved list of nutritious foods. Our VT reps are attempting to restore former benefit levels (as part of the farm bill) without placing guidelines ensuring persons receiving assistance are spending on healthy foods. WIC already has such guidelines, mothers may have: eggs, milk, cheese, bread, peanut butter and cereal. Add fruits, tofu, brown rice, canned fish, beans and vegetables to that list and you have saved taxpayers and ensured good nutrition to those who need it the most (children).

I don't think you understand why you may have to pay $7/gallon but glad to see another ignorant teabagger missing the boat once again.

Mulligan was right.

I'm interested in sustainability and quality nutrition for those who depend on the government for basic necessities.

Currently the government provides a nutritious breakfast and lunch for poor school aged children. The government supplements the diet of pregnant women and infants with nutritious food; but we omit our responsibility when it comes to seniors, the economically disadvantaged and disabled adults. Additionally, school aged children are experiencing nutritional insecurity on nights, weekends and vacation days.
I say that it is a natural extension to create an approved nutritional consumer list to ensure that no one falls through the cracks. Government food assistance should disallow poor nutrition foods and drinks.

Nutrition programs for our economically disadvantaged persons are routinely targeted for cuts by those financially supporting these programs, because the benefactors are increasingly seen by taxpayers to have a buying preference for over processed and junk food. Correct that program flaw and the need will become more apparent.

So why allow poor nutrition food and drinks at all?

Maybe you would also like to tie food assistance to drug testing?

I guess you're just another typical small gov't teabagger who doesn't want to interfere with the individual. <snicker>

Wick: the mothers and babies eat like nutritional kings. They give mostly really healthy foods.

There is not a potatoes chip in there.

My idea of people who are on government assistance are regular people like you and me.

Yep, there are many young people who are scared and damaged from our cruel political system through no fault of their own.
And they and their children will pay a hard price for their choices!

. So why are local school nurses filling Friday backpacks with two days of healthy foods for our disadvantaged children?

If we must have socialist freebee handouts for the poor, let it be condoms and the birth control pill so they make less rugrats to feed in the first place
Nothing in the Constitution authorizes the government to feed Anyone with taxpayer's $$!

I've been reading about an awful lot of crime being committed by blacks in Vermont lately. What's going on, for a state with only 1% of the population made up blacks, it seems very disproportionate?
