PLYMOUTH The latest federal inspector assigned by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to keep a watchful eye on operations at the problem-plagued Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station is a former longtime employee of Entergy, the owner-operator of the plant.
Brian Scrabeck is the plant's new resident inspector, NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said in an announcement today.
Scrabeck was a senior reactor operator at Entergy's James A. FitzPatrick plant in Oswego, N.Y., until he joined the NRC in May 2012.
Asked whether it could be perceived as somewhat incestuous to have a federal inspector supervise his former employer, Sheehan said he saw no conflict.
There are checks and balances in place to ensure there are no conflicts of interest, Sheehan said.We have a code of behavior for all our inspectors. They're in constant contact with their supervisors and we have outside inspections. If we see any cause for concern, certainly there would be an intervention.
Sheehan said the skill set needed to work in the nuclear power industry limits the candidate pool to recent college graduates, former members of the nuclear Navy, or employees from private industry.
Scrabeck was a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy from 2000 to 2006.

This could go both ways.
Brian with his military experience has become very worldly. He saw a lot. Most employees coming out of Entergy realize the corporations is nothing but a cold blooded money retile. It seems like Brain was biding his time to build up his resume waiting for an opportunity to leave. He above anyone else would know how bad these guys are...he would hit these guys hard.
I wouldnt even be surprised if Entergy planted to the antis he was a long term Entergy employee. That would be one way to get him pulled?

This guy got a high IQ and he is a driven person!
Is Fitz a plant like VY...
Scrabeck joined the NRC May 20, 2012, as a project engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects. Prior to joining the agency, Scrabeck worked at the James A. FitzPatrick plant in Scriba, N.Y., as a senior reactor operator. He served in the United States Navy as a submarine officer aboard the USS Parche, and in the United States Marine Corps as a reconnaissance marine and cryptologic linguist. Scrabeck earned a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a masters in engineering management from Old Dominion University.

He was a senior reactor operator at Fitz which is very similar to Pilgrim. This gives him a huge leg up on most other resisident inspection.
He got a really really huge probability of bring a great resident inspector at Pilgrim and all his skills and BWR education is greatly needed at this critical time for Pilgrim and Entergy.
I am calling it a great choice!
It is interesting they disclosed they were inserting him in the plant todays???
