A friend told me he was being laid off from the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital next month (12/12). Usually you don't get that kind of notice, and there's been no public announcement, so it sounds like he was getting a heads-up.

Anybody heard anything else?

This is the results of those in good health while the "Retreat is also cutting back to support Shumlin's new "psych" hospital in Waterbury

I hope they get rid of most of the Emergency staff, as I found them to be incompetent. Also I hope to see Michelle M. Rowland and Jackie B. dumped out. Jackie B. is an RN who maltreated me, but I can't report her until I find out what her last name is.

Good news--Cheshire Medical Center is soon to be tsking over the management of BMH, because BMH is too incompetent to manage itself. What a relief!

My doctor (one of the GOOD doctors at BMH) told me that Cheshire Medical Center is going to be taking over the ER care as soon as the new edition is built. She admitted the ER was lousy and blamed it on "bad doctors". When I was very ill with a terrible physical illness a Nurse Practitioner in that ER was abusive towards me because some ER doctor told her that I was a "mental". I had made the mistake of having anxiety over being in severe pain and not knowing (then) what was wrong with me! That made me a mental? There are some good doctors and good staff at BMH, but I had the ill luck to fall in with the bad ones. I feel very sad for your friend. More and more there are just no jobs. That's what we get for voting Shumlin back in office.

I was talking about BMH's ER as being lousy. Cheshire Medical Center has an excellent ER and is an all-round better hospital.

But if you are hanging on by a thread of life...45 minutes to an hour and a half is a death sentence.

Your post isn't any good unless you name names. It is time for you to tell us who the bad doctors are.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital has done several rounds of lay offs over the past few months. They are struggling financially.....Often only having 6-10 patients in the whole hospital. When patients are treated poorly by emergency room staff and other hospital employees, they chose to go to other hospitals, Keene and Greenfield, to receive care. I too have been abused verbally by a nurse and a nurse practitioner at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital's emergency room. I refuse to spend a significant amount of money to be treated poorly. I have also been in the elevator and overheard two doctors talking about a patient who was dying of cancer. That patient happened to be my father. Brattleboro Memorial Hospital needs to train their employees about patient care, which is not just their physical needs. People expect to be treated with kindness and respect.

Sometimes you do not have a choice (emergency), however when I do have a choice (non emergency) I will make the decision to go to another hospital. I work in the professional field and have spoken to a number of individuals who refuse to go to Brattleboro Hospital due to poor patient care (rudeness, disrespect, unethical behavior). I have a close family member who works for the hospital. He/she is disgusted with the current happenings. They have meetings with their staff and talk about how they are struggling financially, but never have meetings that address patient care. They often close second or third floor for lack of patients.HMMMMM....I wonder why???? They are making proffesionals take other positions in order to continue their employment at the hospital and laying employees diagnosed with medical problems (MS)off; excellent employees that have worked for the hospital for years. There are supervisors (environmental services)who verbally abuse their employees and who sit in their office playing on their computers. This employee is constantly sneaking out to have lunch date with his wife. There are housekeepers who sneak out to do a private cleaning job and then sneak back into the hospital to finish their shift. There are nurses who spend more time talking/texting on their cell phones than taking care of patients. With that said, there are a number of excellent emploeees at BMH. The nurses in the birthing center are caring and devoted to patient care. Second floor nurses go above and beyond their duties to make sure the patients are treated to excellent quality care. The operating room staff are wonderful. Bottom line, the hospital administration needs to look at their employees work ethic and make changes in order to be competative with other hospitals. They need to have regular training and meetings with their employees.

The nurse would say you were abusive to them and probably looking for a drug scrip with nothing wrong with you and inappropriate attention.

Most individuals do not go to the emergency room looking to abuse nurses or to get drug scripts. They go when there is an emergency and expect to be treated with respect. A little common curtousy goes a long ways. It never seizes to amaze me how people treat others, especially professionals who have ethical/legal responsibilities. I myself have had the misfortune of having to go to the Brattleboro Emergency room for treatment and was treated very poorly until they realized that my relative works for their hospital and then I was treated with the utmost respect and excellent care. It should not matter who the patient is or who they are related to , all patients have the right to have quality patient care and that is not what most patients receive when they go to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital's Emergency room for treatment, especially during the late night hours.

Hey Mikey, you have had bad experiences at such places because you are legally insane. And you know this! There is nothing wrong with being crazy, but you are the "no fun" kind of crazy, making people around you unhappy. So of course you don't get first class treatment there, or anywhere!
