if players on a team are using racial slurs there is ONE person responsible-the adult. It sounds to me as if he was fired not for stopping the racial slurs but for encouraging them. Considering all the racial problems this school has already why keep an adult around that adds to that atmosphere. Brattleboro is starting to be more like Mississippi than Vermont.
Don't know who your source is but mine confirms that Coach ended the season for these boys and then was overthrown. In the end, the punishment was that they had to sit out Homecomming. First and formost the student is responsible for his actions But that doesn't excuse the parent(s),and/or guardian(s) for this at all.

"Also, to the reformer staff where is your investigative reporting? You can't tell me that you accepted personal reasons as the reason for his resignation. Where are the questions? What really happened"

Instead of hiding all your comments on this website if someone came forward and spoke on the record what they think happened or didn't happen maybe the reformer wouldn't be banging its head against the wall to find answers.

Post numbers 10,11 & 19 are from players on the team?

The only thing harder than coaching a high school team is coaching a middle school team. Middle school cheerleaders, now that takes a certain kind of coach.

Played for Coach Miller in the early 90's. He was in his first year, assisting Bill Holiday. Was Coach Miller perfect? No. Did he do everything right? No. Coach Miller helped provide us with leadership, enthusiasm, and a love for the team and school. He provided such an emotional spark to footbal, while also putting life skills at the forefront. I still remember him stating that the most important things in our life were family, religion, school, and then football. How about we all give it a rest and just say thank you to the man.
He loves coaching kids for about $1.00 per hour salary. So, to all my former coaches: THANK YOU!

Mr. Miller is an excellent teacher and a good coach. We should all be thanking him for doing such a remarkable job helping our children. He is an all around great guy and the children love him. He is not innapropriate with the children. Thank you Mr. Miller for being a down to earth, compassionate teacher and coach.

I play on the team, he isn't a clown of a coach, he's the best one there is. He hasn't coached all 36 of those years, and think back to 93 or so, not sure of the date, that team did amazing, but came up short. The real reason he resigned is because parents who had nothing to whine about complained to Principal Day that they didn't like the way we coached, even though all his players do, and Day gave him the option to resign citing personal reasons, or he would fire him. Coach is a great man, and a great coach, who his players will always be loyal to.
PS, whoever said hes trying to be friends with the girls in his classes is crazy, he isn't like that, he's just a great, respected, loved teacher
Ben, you gave a great quote, i'm sure people will condemn you for it and slander you like they are your coach. I give you a lot of credit for sticking up for your coach, even after his termination. That shows a lot of class on your part, and you did a good job of illustrating of the actual scenario and how his team felt about him, which is the most important thing. Having played against Bratt with him at the helm i can say it was always a competitive fight and in 06 they very nearly won a state championship. Good for you Ben.

I'm very disappointed to see the type of derogatory comments on here. The outrageous and deleterious things that are being said are hearsay and probably unfounded. That is not only amoral, it's cowardly, and criminal. So please be careful what you are saying.
I'd also like to point out the only two people to post their names to their comments are two teenagers. I want everyone who has posted something to think about how they have been out classed by these two young men who are a product of this coach. Without knowing the situation or being close to the Brattleboro program, i can easily extrapolate that perhaps if you who are saying all these pernicious things spent more time with the man who has obviously had such a positive impact on these kids, you would show some of the class these young men are. You should be ashamed of yourselves and take a lesson from these boys and Coach Miller.

My son had him in Health Class - he didn't play football, but enjoyed his time with Coach Miller. My son respected Coach Miller and felt respected by him. Every coach has detractors and supporters - it's part of the system. I'd say his leaving probably had more to do with the Colonals record this year than anything else. Good luck to Coach Miller in the future. Good luck to the students who posted here. It's nice to see you sticking up for him - you probably know him better than the rest of us. We should listen to you.

The bottom line is that coaches do not resign mid-season unless there has been a serious infraction. Don't forget that this guy has had a history of being a loose cannon before. I can't believe it took this long for Miller to get backed into a corner. The man is pure scum!! He abuses his authority on a regular basis, is well known to be physically inappropriate with his female students, and the best thing the school could do would be to completely be done with him!!! Maybe more parents and students will step forward, tell what you know to be fact, not myth. This man does not deserve to be around our youth. Anyone who knows Miller knows he would not willingly walk away from "his" football team. God forbid the school tell the whole story to the community.
First of all you coward who has to hide behind the computer to say your comments I would love for you some day to look me up and say it to my face!!! You are the scum and the fact that you have no idea who my father is and what he is all about is pretty rediculous!!! You should probably get your facts straight....you either didnt get enough playing time or your bratty little kid, like ever other typical baby in Brattleboro that cant handle the truth you liberal freak!!! Grow up!!! Trust me I would love to have a conversation with you some day!!! I promise you will you learn a lot about us Miller's!!! By the Way it is NONE of Your business what really happened GOD FORBID YOU Would MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS...so what is wrong with Brattleboro!!!=-) Hopefully talk to you soon!!=-)

I played for Coach Miller from 1991 thru 1994, he was tough but always fair. We didn't play football to pound dirt or each other we played because we loved the game and each one of the members of the coaching staff and team I consider to be some of my closest friends. Football is a sport not everyone can play nor should they.

Coach Miller thru being tough made every challenge afterward seem easy. I'm saddened to see that he stepped down

I am sorry I am just now finding this out after five years. Coach Miller helped me through some extremely tough times in my life. He stood by me and cried alongside me when I needed support. If he has done something inappropriate in the last twenty years that I have not talked to him, then I am truly sorry, but I know this.....I will support him the same way he supported me all those years ago. Coach.....your legacy is not measured on the score board or in the Reformer. Your legacy is in the hearts and lives of the young people you have effected. I Love You Brother!

Coach Miller is one of the most respectable teachers in the area. This man is well-regarded by his students in Health Class for both his honesty and integrity. He provides accurate information to these kids and is upfront about the issues and choices that affect their lives the most. He addresses the issues that parents won't or can't talk about with their children. My own children both attending and graduated have the utmost respect for this teacher. They love Coach Miller!
I don't think that anyone envies Miller's coaching responsibilities. He works with a bunch of immature, egotistical, knucklehead animals who are all pumped up on hormones and bravado. Kids get into football because they have a need to pound dirt and each other. They are glory hounds without much of a moral compus being pushed by parents trying to prove thier virility vicariously through their spawn. I can't think of a better man to try and teach these blowhard Jrs a few facts about life! Perhaps Vice Principal Mosley or Day will step up to the plate? You can bet your Sunday dinner that won't happen!
God Bless you Coach Miller & lets hope that you will be around to teach the rest of my kids.
As a former, very successful player, I can safely say that he was one of the biggest pieces of crapI have ever met in my entire life. No logic and reason to this guy, only hatred in his heart. Glad to see him go out so poorly.
