Need Information

I may be relocating to Brattleboro and need some information or links to it.

1. When does the school year begin and end for K-12
2. Are there any bad areas of town I should know about.
3. And which apartment complexes/town houses are the best and worst in the $700.00-$1,000.00 per month price range? I will be looking for a minimum of 3 BR 1.5 Bath, basketball court, playground, and pet friendly for 1 small rat terrier dog.

Also my wife is a nurse and we are moving for her career so she is set. I have 3 years forklift experience and Class A CDL's with 6 months experience and will be looking for a driving job part time while I finish out my Bachelors in Residential Property Management online. What is the easiest driving job one can get in the area with limited experience and how much, on the low end, would it pay?

Yea... People like above replier are the types of people you can expect to encounter up here.

from my experience, there seems to be a problem with the housing market in southern Vermont. It will be difficult to find a place to rent for that price range. Even though the homes are old, falling apart, and not particularly nice / in good shape (rotting old wood floors, linoleum counters), you can expect something in the 1200-1500 range for 3 br.

I wouldn't hold out too long for something with a basketball court / playground. Just to be clear, there are no apartment complexes here, just people's homes that they rent out. You may be able to find one within walking distance of a park, although I haven't seen any parks with basketball courts.

Coming from an urban area down south I was really disappointed with the options here. Craigslist is the best place to look, but don't be surprised if about 1% of the people you attempt to contact actually get back to you. If possible, I'd look at Keene, NH before Brattleboro.

Good luck with everything!

No Real Vermonters live in that stinkhole town
If living near a potential dirty bomb like VY which has the very same design design reactor (GE Mark I) that blew up in triplicate over in Japan doesn't bother you then move to nearby Vernon where the taxes are cheaper thanks to the nuke) and it has far less crazies* and sickos* than Bratt
* except of course for the many crazy sicko pro-nukies there that is
Wow, I researched it and was astounded to find out about the nuclear issue. Thanks for your candid input. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/science/ear...

Apparentely the one planning on moving to the Bratt area is concerned about the nearby nuke too. Only dumbass nuketards are not concerened and beLIEve the industry propaganda, the same BS that the Japanese beLIEved and are now suffering over.

This isn't where you want to go for information, its a place where everybody from both "sides" angrily vent, and its a very poor representation of average Brattleboro folks.

You should ask this question on www.ibrattleboro.com and you'll get real answers and discussion. And you'll see lots of photos, calendars and info in general on the site. Good luck in whatever you decide!

The Nuke plant is not a problem to anyone except the whacko hippies (including Peter Shumlin) who exaggerate everything way out of proportion to what's really happening. The apartment buildings around here are full of both drug addicts and severely mentally ill people that the Retreat can no longer hold. Be very careful where you choose to live.

You need to take a long visit Wanderlust, and make up your own mind. Its like any town, with a huge mix of people of every political/religious/career stripe.

There are a couple of folks here who's primary purpose on the forum is to be angry at Brattleboro. Begging the questions: if they live here, then why don't they move? And if they don't live here, why do they care?

Come check it out.

"if they live here, then why don't they move"
-moving cost$ money
and besides, it's the workers at the nearby nuke that will soon be moving when that potential Dirty Bomb finally gets SHUT DOWN, which is when the Many SMART people of the tri-state area will CHEER!(and breathe a sigh of relief)
Bratt had nothing much to do with why there's a Fukushima waiting to happen just down the road in the town of Vernon

I'm not angry at Brattleboro. The worst I can say about it is that it's rather boring, and that it has had some rotten trigger happy cops but then they're almost everywhere-
http://justiceforwoody.wtc7.net/
So are rotten 'justice' system officials who throw the book at those who commit victimless crimes like druggies but give a slap on the wrist to their own colleagues when They're caught committing a major crime-

I strongly suggest that you not move to Brattleboro, but rather to the neighboring town of Vernon. Vernon has a voucher system for grade 7-12. Also, I suggest that you check out Northfield Mount Hermon School. http://www.nmhschool.org/
