So I am taking picture on this little train track bridge by the Hinsdale boat ramp. It is on the max telephoto setting on my little camera. I am way out there.

I wonder why this guy is watching me/ Does he think i am a nut case.

Looking up river to the North. I am way out there on the edge of the cattail island. Them little spots are our Ice fishing man shacks. They took a lot of them shacks off the ice in preparation for our big storm.

That is the Southern tip of the cattail island. It is open water baby. We have had sufficient cold for rather thick ice on the setbacks.

Open river ice is extraordinarily dangerous with the currents causing open water.

I mean really, how thick is this ice if you can see the plant life under the ice. Most of setback is shallow water.

There are big bubbles under the ice, usually methane. If you jump on the ice and the bubbles giggle, that means the ice is rather thin. I did get the bubbles to giggle. The ice thickness this year now is between 4 inches and 9 inches according to the drunken ice fisherman.

You put all these photographs in a picasa slide show special effects of automatic zooming in and out and around on your own computer...it is a pretty spectacular winter imagery. We live in a beautiful area!

If i had real guts...I'd be taking pictures out there in the deaps of the maga snow storm...
