GMP says it needs the rate hikes to offset a $24 million increase in electric transmission costs and infrastructure investments.

"Governor Shumlin and us refused to listen to just about everybody, and now that we got these renewable shrines built, we need to find a way to make them work. We are hoping to throw your money at our problem (and sooner than later), to drive all business out of the state so we can conserve (use Less) electricity!"

"What I'm fighting for, and my department is fighting for, is the lowest rates we can get for businesses because job growth in Vermont is dependent on stable electric rates," said Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont.

And with businesses grappling with health insurance changes, having stable power bills-- even if they're higher-- helps."

GMP claims that they haven't raised electric rates for some time, but approximately 15% of my bill is from fees. Rates or fees makes little difference to me, they both come out of my paycheck. Let's end this carnival game and fully disclose all of the cost of wind and solar to Vermonters. Complete and accurate transparency from our state and federal subsidies to special funds paid by certain businesses, to fees in our electric bills, upgrading the grid..... What is it costing us now and what will it cost us in five years?

Remember kids, it's only wind and solar that receive subsidies.

We (ISO) are already set up for reliable base load energy (and it is pre existing in our region), so whatever are you going on about?

Why is it so hard for you to follow a thread?

Turn off Faux News and trying paying attention.

If you work is ISO-NE, we have bigger problems. I doubt you do though.

We won't meet the carbon targets if nuclear is taken off the table … Emissions per unit of energy need to fall by a factor of six. That means electrifying everything that can be electrified and then making electricity largely carbon-free … We need to understand the scale of the challenge.– Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute, at Asian Development Bank meeting in Manila

Vermont's renewable energy policies are proven economic disaster. Contracting with Vermont Yankee and Seabrook would have prevented This self inflicted wound and our carbon footprint would have remained low allowing us to still make lots of money selling our carbon credits.

Remember this?

Vermont’s two largest utilities plan to use a streamlined rate-setting procedure to “blend” their electricity rates. Gaz Metro is in the process of obtaining state approval for the purchase of Central Vermont Public Service. The Montreal-based company plans to merge its Vermont subsidiary, Green Mountain Power, with CVPS. If the deal goes through as expected, 80 percent of Vermonters will receive electricity from the new company.
Once the utilities have merged, Gaz Metro will use a process called “Alternative Regulation” to request approval of its new blended rate for the combined utilities. This protocol limits public involvement but saves money by sidestepping a lengthy process with the Public Service Board - See more at: http://vtdigger.org/2012/05/16/gmp-seeks-use-...

and remember this?

AARP-Vermont is worried that the alternative rate-setting process will limit public scrutiny of Gaz Metro’s plan to recoup $21 million through higher rates - See more at: http://vtdigger.org/2012/05/16/gmp-seeks-use-...

Remember that GMP pocketed the CVPS customer’s money that they borrowed as part of the merger deal.
