To the person that posted saying male co's go home and beat their families, that is a crap. There may be a slim few that do that, but you will find that in any job. Its the person that does those kinds of things not the job. My father has been a co for nearly 20 years and has always been one of the nicest people you could ever meet, hes a laid back, friendly, would give anyone the shirt off his back kind of person. He also works a second job as a mechanic, just because he enjoys it. Honestly why would someone start a topic bashing hardworking men and women, that make an honest living. The prisons around here are what keep alot of people employed. Without them the local economy would crumble. Really people, your going to bash the people that are keeping, the pedophiles, druggies and murderers in lock down. Wow!

I was a cos kid and 3 friends growing up all cos kids and all of them have been beat like me and all our parents are divorced. I would never say all of them are like that because that's impossible but I think the majority are more like my sperm donor and less like your father unfortunatly. They don't know enough that when they are home they aren't guards anymore they don't need to beat you into submission. They have a hard time turning that mentality off. They are angry all time. It's just sad they can't leave that at work. And you are right atleast they have jobs not mooching off welfare. It's just the majority are not good people outside of work. I am very happy your childhood was different then mine and my friends your a lucky one.

There are good and bad in every profession on this earth. I am sorry you were an abused child, but I strongly disagree that the majority are not good people. The fact is the majority are very good people, they are volunteer rescue squad members, volunteer firefighters, they are scout masters and coaches for a variety of sports. It sounds like you harbor a lot of anger, maybe you should look into some counseling.....

Sounds like another person who was locked up, couldn't pass the civil service test, or flunked the phsycological exam. Trash us all you want loser, I made $80,000 last year and can retire in 4 years at 52 years old.

Typical response from a co. Always thinking that anyone who puts co's down was either a criminal or could not pass the test. Bragging that you made 80,000 just proves you are overpaid for what you do.
Always trying to justify your job by how dangerous it is. If it's that dangerous then why are women doing it and why are all the guards working overtime.
The average citizen has no real idea about what goes on except what the television shows, but some of us know exactly what goes on. Working construction jobs can get you inside and see what takes place.

Typical response from someone who "knows" everything about the job yet hasn't walked in our shoes! Lolololololol Apparently you missed a few things when you were working at the jail. I for one don't care what anyone thinks, especially someone who claims to know the in's and outs of a job he observed while doing his own. Some officer's are abusive scumbags and some are a great asset to the community and great family men. Same goes for Dr's, lawyers, nurses etc and EVEN construction workers. Good and bad eggs are everywhere, judging from your closed mindedness and negative comments about something you "think " you know all about, I would label you as a..... well you get the point... there is a test in April, take it and see from the "inside" how it works.... cue disparaging remarks now. 3,2,1,....

So I guess Einstein what you are saying is that women can't work dangerous jobs. So I guess you have never heard of women in the miltary, or female police officers, or.....wait for it...female construction workers. I wasn't bragging about how much I make, I was pointing out the fact that you think only idiots take a job as a CO, so let me ask you this construction worker....can you retire at 52 years old??? Do you have a retirement pension that you haven't contributed large amounts of cash to??? Do you have health benefits for you and your family??? I highly doubt it....I used to work construction and I know for a fact I would not be retiring in 4 years if I had stayed with it. Now I know your going to come back on here and tell me you make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and you can probably retire tomorrow with full benefits...Save it. You are right about one thing though....the general public has NO IDEA what really goes inside a prison today, most think we walk around inside the jails with a shotgun over our shoulder and many other untruths that television depicts.

Hey jackass...I do work for the state. I retire too in about 6 years. I am not a CO though. You see, I have an AS degree AND a BS degree. Oh yes, a lot of my clients are COs. So, don't be so quick to run your mouth next time. It shows your arrogance and stupidity.

Where did I say that I know all about a co's job. Maybe you should take a class on how to understand what you read. My observations are from what I have seen. Babysitters who are overpaid.

If the job was as dangerous as most co's claim, women would not be doing it. If a women was hurt either as a co, in the military, or as a police officer, it would be plastered all over the news.
Women in the military usually are not on the front lines. Police women are generally not sent into the bad areas without lots of backup. Are most of the co women called butch.
I know many co's whom I associate with on a frequent basis. Never said they were of lower intelligence. But they do get drunk and run their mouths about things that the public should not know.

I believe you have an AS (associates in stupidity) and a BS (Bullshit) degree.....remember idiot....you are the one who came on here trashing us. Of course everyone that has come on here and trashed COs has a better job with better pay and are upstanding citizens without an ax to grind....I see you are no exception....
