I have been looking for a forum all over the internet about fishing just for Massena, but can't really pinpoint anything. So maybe this will work here. Have a question regarding fishing off the platform off the raquette river at Massena Springs Park, anyone have any luck fishing there? What about the rapids near the ice cream store in downtown. I always see people fishing there, what do you catch there?

Not much, some small mouths, rock bass,sunfish....fun for the kids......The best fishing spots around here are in Waddington and out in most of the water(St.Lawrence) surrounding the barhardt/ robert moses area! Fishing for bass from a canoe on the raquette(?) between raymondville and springs park is pretty exciting too!

I grew up on the Raquette river and there is good fishing there. As far as Springs Park, I wouldn't recommend it. There's a lot of northern pike, walley, bass, and catfish in the Raquette.

Over by the icecream store I used to catch salmon in the fall over under the bridge.

.....Yes. I have a view point on this topic. Pushing seventy I can only say this. Our licenses keep going up and the fish that we can actually eat keep going down as well as the quantity. I can afford my groceries but what about the time that we could go fishing for the pleasure and not be told that we should only eat one meal a month and not to eat any bottom feeders such as bullhead from most waters in northern New York. Catch and release is ok but I would like a good fish feed now and then like back in old times.

Springs park after dark, large sturgeon, and big suckers using worms. Also on 37 out by stewarts under bridge after dark same results. Your looking at 3ft to 6ft sturgeon do not keep these fish as they are illegal but FUN to catch. Need 12lb or higher line and suggested using a large weight liter. Good luck.

I like the Raquette myself. Caught some nice bass, and a Walleye once. Not great right out in the park, but go either way a half mile and it can be fun!

I went again around 6:45 caught a 22 inch walleye which I released, I used a Storm Wildeye Swim Shad Green color with a size 2 split shot. I have found out that there are alot of snags out there, as I had to break line on 5 snags my girls had. I am going to use nightcrawlers tomorrow.

The thing is all around that rocky point is good.Found out quite a few years ago 10lb 32 1/4 inches. But trick to it get they early before dusk as crazy as this may sound we found out when the lights come on across on the damn they start to hit throw a cotton cordell at them or a storm lure anything white works good. good luck!mostly walleye

Thanks for the tips, I've never fished under Alcoa Bridge, is there a decent path to get down there? I remember stopping by Hawkins point and just amazed at how many big fish I saw jumping out of the water and cresting....wish I had a boat, but gotta do with what I have. I have seen people fishing the past few days on top of the washed out dam. What size sinker would you have to use there? The rapids there have settled down considerably from a few weeks ago. The Same can't be said for the St.regis Power dam in Hogansburg, I saw alot of curly tail discards, so I guess that's what's hot now. Also under the Racquette bridge on the rez saw 11 boats and about 20 people along the shore, I work close to their, will see what everyone is using or having luck with.
thanks

What would one catch with just a regular nightcrawler and sinker? Could you catch all of these or do you need special bait and lures? Thanks.
