This is a sad day in Branson. And a sad thing to hear first thing in the morning. Just people having a good time and this happens to them.

A horrible incident indeed. That storm front moved in rapidly. The lake could have been fairly calm on the Ducks entry into the water. But they spend about ten minutes out there. They slowly motor out and circle a small island before returning to land. In that amount of time the lake must have turned from small whitecaps and low wind into a raging beast. I've been out on that lake when that happened, some years past. You cannot believe the large waves that 60+ mph winds can produce on that normally calm and passive looking lake. It nearly took our boat under too. Terrible.

If you have ever watched the Ducks enter the water near the Branson Belle they DO NOT ALL enter the water slowly there. They stop perhaps 100 ft or more from the water, then rapidly accelerate before they hit the water. It's been caught on Video earlier this year at the same location, a very dangerous practice. The ducks are powered to move slow once in the water.

All part of the ride and show.

I have a question....Not ever been on the lake, could the duck not find another spot on shore to pull off to? I know he was hell bent on making it back & thatís understandable being panicked. Possibly he thought this craft was durable enough to take the waves. But even in the video, the driver passed a paddle boat & dock before sinking.

Being "All part of the ride and show" does not supercede the facts that they are doing very dangerous things that these boats were not designed or built to do. And also the fact the the NTSB(Feds) had already warned that the Tops or Roofs that were added after the original design are safety and drowning hazards. If my info is correct the duck sank in about 40 ft of water, then traveled to around 80 ft of water and stopped upright. The divers found at least 7 bodies trapped under the top or canopy on the Duck.People are dead and people are responsible for this Man made accident.

My question is..why did no one have on life jackets? They said the boat has them. But the law does not require riders to wear them!? I have seen people in boats pulled over and TOLD to put them on. So why not Duck Boat riders? Many people do not know how to swim! Everyone should wear life jackets when boating!

Have been on this ride several times and they stop at top of hill and punch it to hit water fast as they can. And if you watch first of video closely. The duck that sank sits much lower in water than the one that comes out

This is the first time in Branson, but not the first time with those damned Ducks. People have died before from these things. WW II pontoon boats shouldn't even be in use today. Latest reports say that the owner says they shouldn't have even been in the water. The thunderstorm warning went out 30 mins prior.
The decision-making skills are to blame. Who was driving? FELONY MANSLAUGHTER. you can't blame ignorance unless s/he was a complete and literal idiot, in which case go after whoever hired them. And so on, up the chain, until everyone atones for this ABSOLUTELY AVOIDABLE tradgedy.

Very sad, our prayers goes out to the victims and their families.

If this is true and the worker was that callous, are many of the other workers like that also, to rush in the name of making a dollar?

Is this a safe place to visit for folks and their families?

I think I misunderstood. At the beginning of the trip, the captain said it wasn't necessary to put on life jackets. It's not required by law. As the boat was sinking, people were panicking and there probably wasn't much time to get them and put them on. And if the boat did capsize, it was probably difficult to get out.

I wonder how people get out. Do the windows open? Is there an emergency door at the back?

The DUKW (colloquially known as Duck) is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2¬Ĺ-ton CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military during World War II and the Korean War.

These vessels only had roll-down canvas tops. Working under the impression that Ride The Ducks attraction added roofs cause of liability insurance. In actuality, roofs are a safety hazard on vessels not meant for them originally.

A full State and Federal investigation has begun and rightly so. Not to be covered up by Local Yocals.17 counts of Manslaughter are definitely a possibility against the Captain and Company. Unsafe, dangerous also careless and imprudent operation of the Branson Ducks hauling passengers filmed earlier this year are being sent to the NTSB, The Coast Guard, The Missouri Attorney Generals office as well as Authorities. This is a Criminal Act and should be handled as one.

Is these folks still operating the tour or ride, while the investigation is going on?

Do other business continue to operate also, if these vehicles are so dangerous?
