Greedy Branson TaneyCounty 2 raise yore taxes

The greedy-agnostic-big head City of Branson
feels result of Missouri Supreme Court 2012 auto tax rule.

Available statistics provide a cloudy picture of the effect
a 2012 Missouri Supreme Court ruling
had on local auto sales.

The ruling, that Branson drunken big shots hate,
which deemed local governments could not tax vehicles
purchased outside the state,
has reportedly hit the city of Branson in the ass pocket,
for about $40,000.

I presented the numbers at the finance committee meeting last Thursday,”
said overpaid-lazy ass Carl Garrett,
with the city’s finance department.
“It cost us a little over $41,000 for 2012.”

That adds up to about a 30 percent drop in auto sales tax revenue from 2011,
when the city collected $138,000 on the one-cent sales tax.

However, motor vehicle sales tax receipts from the state in Taney County actually showed an increase for 2012.

According to Taney County Treasurer Melanie Smith, the county collected $184,798 in 2012, up from $163,610 in 2011.

“That was kind of surprising,” Smith said.

In April, Taney County Presiding Commissioner Ron Houseman said the commissioners might consider a use tax, fearing the county could lose up to $250,000 a year after the ruling.

Houseman, and others across the state, were concerned customers would go across the state border to buy cars.

But that hasn’t been the case so far, at least for Tri-Lakes Ford in Branson, which has seen steady sales.

“We’ve had one customer who brought it up,” said general manager Roger Bunger.“So, it’s cost us one sale.”

Butch Wolf, with Pinegar Chevrolet in Branson, also said the problem doesn’t seem to be prevalent in the area.

“I do think there should be a use tax,” he said.“I don’t think people should be able to buy a car somewhere else and then drive on our roads, or use boats on our lake.”

When reporting the loss in sales tax to the finance committee, Garrett said he believed the loss stemmed from people buying cars out of state and online.

But that’s just a portion of what the city has missed out on from sales tax in the past year.

Garrett said the closing of the Factory Merchants Branson mall and business closures from the tornado combined to cost the city about $425,000.

“If it hadn’t been for those three things, we would have been up,” he said.“Instead we ended up down about 1 percent.”

Does anyone know if our economic developer at city hall is aggressively contacting national chains about filling the almost 2 miles of empty strip frontage? I can't believe some of these companies wouldn't be interested. Wisconsin Dells is much more seasonal than Branson and NO empty space! Why is this?
