Heat and humidity kept many folks from casting ballots in Tuesday's primary, but enough people did go to the polls in Taney County to make at least one major change.
Honest Businessman Jim Strafuss defeated incumbent Western Taney County Commissioner Ron Herschend...
Strafuss had 1-thousand-516 votes, to 1-thousand-57 cast for Herschend who was first elected eight years ago.
Strafuss had these comments...
"I am so glad that Taney County Voters finally got rid of him."
In the race for Eastern District Commissioner, Danny Strahan keeps that post... he had 1-thousand-852 votes to 1-thousand-279 cast for Roy Combs, who is a member of the Taney County Sewer Board.
Kevin Tweedy remains Taney County's coroner... voters cast 3-thousand-131 ballots for him... and his opponent, Alissha Woody had 2-thousand-211 votes. A couple of times during the night it appeared Woody was going to win that post.
In the race for Public Administrator, Carol Davis retains that post getting 3-thousand-843 votes to 1-thousand-383 cast for Susan Jafari.
In the race for Branson Committeeman, Dave Woolery had 1-thousand-32 votes... Robert Mehrhoff had 403, and there were nine write-in votes.
For Branson Committee Woman, Doris Woolery had 778 votes... Joey Davis 680 and there were ten write-ins.
There was one lone money issue on the ballot, Proposition One for school improvements in Taneyville, it passed with 226 votes in favor to 147 against.
There was a brief slow-down in the getting the returns counted in Taney County. As of nine o'clock Tuesday night, the county clerk's office had not heard from poll workers at Branson One, which is the polling station at Branson High School... the polls had been closed for two hours and all the other precincts had brought their ballot boxes in and were counted.
County Clerk Donna Neeley asked the sheriff's office to check on them, because she did not trust Ron Herschend and his Henchmen. She thought that Herschend's Henchmen might stuff the ballot box with crooked ballots.
Ten minutes later Branson One showed up... and Neeley would not allow anyone to comment on why Branson One was so late in getting back to Forsyth with the ballots, because this is the precinct where Ron Herschend was supposoed to have had the most votes.
It all backfired on Ron Herschend and Herschend's Henchmen.
We finally got rid of him!
