When the airport goes bankrupt next year are they going to have NHRA sanctioned races on the runway or just local drunk kids racing? Where will they put the bleachers?

Is it going bankrupt? I hope not. I flew in and out a few times and my flights were full. I love that little airport, its very convenient and a lot better getting through than most others.

When they miss the next cash call to the bond holders they'll be out of business. Mis-managed from the git-go.

It will be great to have real dragsters out there, especially if there is a NASCAR track built nearby. This could become a great destination for race fans nationwide. I assume the airport bondholders will still own the property as a drag strip after the airport is gone?

The real question is how many taxpayer dollars will be spent to turn this failed enterprise into a local attraction/dragstrip?

Does anyone know the length of the runway and what the standard length for a NHRA strip is?

How much of the airport is actually owned by Penn State sodomizer Jerry Sandusky?

Typical NHRA strips are 1/8 or 1/4 mile long, plus room to brake after the finish line, so there is way more than enough room out there. There are 12 classifications of dragsters but the top three are Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock. Pro Stock motorcycles are amazing to watch also. I sure hope we get to see these races here in Branson!

How close to bankruptcy is the airport? It was widely reported that they restructured their debt earlier this year to make a bond payment, did it help? I get the feeling that these guys don't really know what they're doing.

The airport entered into what is termed a frebearance funding agreement. Even though they technically have defaulted on their loan they made their last bond payments by using their reserve funds. How much they have in reserve is anyone's guess but if I were a bondholder I'd be pretty nervous. There's a lot of funny business going on out there, not just financially either,

Maybe this link will help explain:

Maybe if the bondholders take control and get some competent management they'll make it as an airport, but my bet is that it'll be a dragstrip.

The Branson airport does not currently receive enough revenues from passenger traffic to cover its bond payments.

For the past year, the airport has made payments by dipping into its bond reserves, money which came from the bond offering. As this is unsustainable, the airport will most likely require some type of restructuring on the bonds, which currently trade at 44 cents on the dollar.

Ultimately, I expect the bondholders to take the hit and the airport will survive as this appears to be the highest and best use for the property.

They already defaulted on a $1.65 million bond payment this year. This financial house of cards may survive but not under its current (mis) management.

I have also heard that Muslim Saudi Arabians own most of the bonds, is that true?

I have heard that there is an investigation of the bonding by the Securities and Exchange Commission, is this true?

You doomsdayers are messed up in the head.........go bitch about something else. Have you ever been to that airport..........I do not care what it takes to keep it open..........it is convenient and has great service.......you people on here are not intelligent enough to figure out the economics of your own budget. How could you figure out the first privately funded airport. Keep you traps shut about the airport and go houndog something else.

you douche bags......

It has been widely reported that the airport defaulted on their bond payment earlier this year. It was reported nationwide in fact, even in USA Today. Given their current share price ($0.44 on the dollar) and Southwest Airline's reluctance to publicly commit to continued service after the AirTran merger I don't see any reason to believe that this unwieldy project will survive in its current management structure. The real question is when will the bondholders revolt and demand that things be put in order?
