See a Green Party perspective from Matt Gonzolez re the Lieberan Obama connection: “And in March 2006, Obama went out of his way to travel to Connecticut to campaign for Senator Joseph Lieberman who faced a tough challenge by anti-war candidate Ned Lamont. At a Democratic Party dinner attended by Lamont, Obama called Lieberman “his mentor” and urged those in attendance to vote and give financial contributions to him. This is the same Lieberman who Alexander Cockburn called “Bush’s closest Democratic ally on the Iraq War.” Why would Obama have done that if he were truly against the war?” The Obama Craze: Count Me Out: THE WAR IN IRAQ http://www.beyondchron.org/news/index.php... . |

Regarding the assassination comment:
Clinton references RFK but not OBAMA: ["I was discussing the Democratic primary history and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns of both my husband and Sen.[Robert] Kennedy waged in California in June in 1992 and 1968 and I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nomination primary contests that go into June. That's a historic fact," she said.] http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworl... David Axelrod on Obama and RFK: [He often likens Obama to Robert F. Kennedy and told The Washington Post, "I thought that if I could help Barack Obama get to Washington, then I would have accomplished something great in my life."[1]] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Axelrod_ (political_consultant) Axelrod wants to reinforce your perception that Obama is the reincarnation of RFK. Thus spin on safety.(Will this one live and save us?) |

It’s a gotcha game. Obama gets to say ”I take her at her word.” Axelrod gets to “remind” us that Obama is the reincarnation of RFK. In the mean time, the woman who holds the legacy Kennedy seat in NY gets support from another Kennedy hardly anyone cares. She never mentioned Obama. Axelrod and the NY Post did.
[The New York Post has been criticized since the beginning of Murdoch's ownership for what many consider its lurid headlines, sensationalism, blatant advocacy, and conservative bias. In 1980, the Columbia Journalism Review asserted that "the New York Post is no longer merely a journalistic problem. It is a social problem - a force for evil."] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Post |

Timing is everything. Why else would a rag like the NY Post print such an egregiously misleading story at the same time Senator Obama is in Florida trying talk to Cuban leaders who have a fondness for the Kennedy name. Here is what the mighty Geoff Earle has to say. Read it all, even the small disclaimers he tosses in:
KENNEDYS FEEL BOBBY-SOCKED OUTRAGED RFK KIN SAY HILL'S NOW TOAST By GEOFF EARLE, BRADEN KEIL and ANGELA MONTEFINISE Hillary Clinton May 25, 2008 Hill: We Remember When RFK Was Assassinated Clinton cites the Bobby Kennedy assassination while defending her long-running campaign. http://www.nypost.com/seven/05252008/news/nat... Harry Reid asked it for Obama in May of last year, but Clinton’s had protection much longer and for good reason:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Se... As long as Axelrod can reinforce the idea that Obama and RFK are the same, the better it plays. In that respect to keep it up after they said it was a dead issue verifies that that was part of the scheme. It’s been a nasty season all around. I think the Secret Service are the ones to be admired here. I have no doubt they deserve it. |

He went to Florida, and Puerto Rico to discuss this and yet he dissembled. McCain and Clinton’s views are not the same over the fate of Cuba. since she had said the same before and had every right, who have to wonder over the timing of this “great story”.
Here is what he and/or the Wall Street Journal said: Obama woos Cuban Americans In Florida, candidate says he wants to 'turn the page' on relations with island nation Carol J. Williams, Los Angeles Times Saturday, May 24, 2008 Obama's Democratic rival, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who also campaigned in South Florida this week, said nothing about how she would handle the American-Cuban diplomatic conundrum. Her only reference to the Communist-ruled island was in a statement issued on Tuesday's Cuban Independence Day holiday urging Raul Castro "to take an historic step to bring Cuba into the community of democratic nations." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1189377507594... |

Here is what Clinton said:
Press Release 5/20/2008 Statement by Hillary Clinton on Cuban Independence Day Today I join with Cuban-Americans and the people of Cuba to celebrate Cuban Independence Day. As we recognize this important occasion, we hope that the winds of change are beginning to stir, and wish for better days ahead. After nearly 50 years of one-man rule, the new leadership in Cuba faces a choice -- continue with the failed policies of the past that have stifled democratic freedoms and stunted economic growth - or take an historic step to bring Cuba into the community of democratic nations. Since Raul Castro formally took power, he has announced some measures that have the potential to make improvements in the lives of the Cuban people, including easing regulations on the purchase of computers and cell phones. Unfortunately, these are merely incremental steps in a society that yearns for genuine freedoms and a democratic opening. The new authorities should take immediate steps to release political prisoners, permit free expression and assembly, and set the stage for open and competitive elections. The people of Cuba want to seize the opportunity for real change, and so must we. The American people have been on the side of the Cuban people's struggle for freedom and democracy in the past, and we must and we will be on the side of the Cuban people in the future. As President, I will engage our partners in Latin America and Europe who have a strong stake in seeing a peaceful transition to democracy in Cuba, and who want very much for the United States to play a constructive role to that end. I believe that we should maintain current restrictions on trade with Cuba until the government takes concrete steps to guarantee political and civil liberties and permit free and fair elections. We should also support providing assistance for independent Cuban civil society, Radio and Television Marti, negotiating direct mail service to Cuba, and upgrading telecommunications equipment to ease communication between the people of Cuba and their relatives abroad. I have also voted to support greater flexibility for immediate family members to visit Cuba in humanitarian cases. The United States must pursue an active policy to advance the cause of freedom, democracy, and opportunity for the people of Cuba. That is the policy I will pursue as President. http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/vi... |

I read the Iowa Independent and enjoy it’s journalistic effort. One thing thing that they have been very good at following is the delegate math in the presidential race. However, Iowa does have a dog in this hunt. The Independent reflects that desire to remain first National Caucus.
http://www.iowaindependent.com/showDiary.do... The argument over uncommitted MI voters is furious. http://www.iowaindependent.com/showDiary.do... You can see that crossovers are part of the problem. There were Democrats that reportedly voted for Romney in a Rush Limbaugh move. Add to the fact that states like Iowa are very close to a tie in possible delegates, and places like Guam are currently tied with one uncommitted delegate. It seem perfectly right that this is a serious fight that must be resolved. The DNC rules have not been adequate to the task. Obama took his name off in Michigan. His claim that Florida votes shouldn’t be counted is specious. It was a republican state majority that voted for the change. Name recognition problems would have applied to him at the beginning of the race, no matter how hard he campaigned. In fact, he did have national ads which were distributed across state lines into Florida and were deemed legal. Hillary should have all the delegates she earned and represent those that voted for her. Uncommitted delegates should be split to or not counted. OR Obama help pay for the revote she offered or the DNC and The RNC should open up all the lists and let every body look! |

Iowa and New Hampshire have had a dog this hunt from the beginning. They moved their primaries up as well and weren’t punished by the DNC.
Here is the statement from the Clinton campaign: Press Release 5/31/2008 Statement from The Clinton Campaign on the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting Harold Ickes and Tina Flournoy made the following statement this evening: Today's results are a victory for the people of Florida who will have a voice in selecting our Party’s nominee and will see its delegates seated at our party’s convention. The decision by the Rules and Bylaws Committee honors the votes that were cast by the people of Florida and allocates the delegates accordingly. We strongly object to the Committee's decision to undercut its own rules in seating Michigan’s delegates without reflecting the votes of the people of Michigan. The Committee awarded to Senator Obama not only the delegates won by Uncommitted, but four of the delegates won by Senator Clinton. This decision violates the bedrock principles of our democracy and our Party. We reserve the right to challenge this decision before the Credentials Committee and appeal for a fair allocation of Michigan’s delegates that actually reflect the votes as they were cast. http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/vi... The argument wasn’t as much about seating half delegates as the fact that they TOOK AWAY 4 Clinton delegates. In addition, the uncommitted delegates should have been assigned as UNCOMMITTED, not Obama delegates or not at all. This would have meant that a portion of those would in fact have voted for Obama, but not all. I don’t think it’s over yet. |
