Please research this area...there is growing concern that it is a health hazard and/or possible cancer cluster. Also, Tampa Pipeline ammonia (also jet fuel possibly??) lines run through area. Please see links:

I'm Sorry Angie but i have lived here for 3 years and these issues or not relevent to the quality of life here. Both of the events you are referencing are fluke events that can happen anywhere. Most people live near amonia gas lines. There is no cancer cluster? where did you get that from? Fishhawk is a great area and as healthy or healthier than the surrounding areas. The crime levels is close to none and the schools are A rated. Parent involvement is unmatched and the people are very friendly.

I am one half of a multi-racial/multi-ethic male/male gay couple with a 10 year old daughter. We are contemplating moving to the Tampa area and this community came highly recommended. Is this, in all honesty, a gay friendly community? I know the state, in general, is not.

we are soon moving to fishhawk from enfield too.
although we will be part time residents, we are looking so forward to joining this community.
it is a wonderful place to raise a family. schools rated very high in the country and crime rate is low. most areas here are gated and are mostly families who care about a higher quality of life for their children and themselves.
so many wonderful activities to get involved with.
children will love it and schools are in walking distance or most bike to school. there are grocery and retail very very close by and cafes and restaurants. taxes may not be that low because you pay for all the upgrade amenities.
homes are great. close to orlando and to tampa recreation. disney is about 45 minutes away and tampa is about 25 minutes away. beaches about half hour or less. let this blog know if you have decided to move there and where did you locate in which area of fishhawk. i will check the blog out.

No cancer cluster? My sister-in-law who lives in Fishhawk Ranch has FOUR people on her little street alone that have cancer, including a little boy.

As far as quality of life issues, I don't understand spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to live 15 feet away from the neighbors on 3 sides of my house.

Then there is also the wonderful aroma when the sprinklers come on, spraying reclaimed water which, depending on the day, either smells like feces or rotten eggs. I guess so many noses are so high up in the air over there they can't smell it.

To each their own, but that place is not my cup of tea.

if this is true, why isnt anyone suing like the movie erin brokovich? dont they want to check out the possiblilities of too coincidental cancer cases in that area?

No one is suing because it isn't true. Without knowing when these folks moved and when the cancer began, these comments are just fear mongering. I have lived in FH for 5 years and it is a wonderful family oriented community with great amenities and a terrific trail system. I water my yard with reclaimed water and the smell referred to is not even close to the degree stated.

Anybody can say anything on blogs and email, without evidence, proof, or even identification of themselves. I have lived in 8 states, and FL, especially FishHawk, are superb. If you believe this, then why do you live here? MOVE! If you don't have evidence, then keep your uninformed opinions to yourself. Be informed, be factual, or be quiet!

sounds like if you now live in lithia, you too share the same water supply and environment you are ranking on. could it be those people have members of their family and ancestors who were predisposed to the cancer and it is inherited?

I became curious as to the cancer accusations...all I could find was this link. Not very assuring for me.

That being said, I live in Lithia, I have for the past 30 years. I haven't heard of any reports of outstanding numbers of cancer victims. The area sure has grown since we moved here when I was 8 years old. There is a water plant right off Lithia...that does stink at times like bad flatulence. My teenagers go to Newsome which is practically next door...and they said all their friends make jokes about who passed gas.

Any updates on Fish Hawk Ranch from residents. My wide and I are being transferred to Tampa next month. We made a quick trip down to explore the area and landed in Fish Hawk Trails and liked what we saw. A couple of quesitons I have are;
1.Are there any builders we should stay away from ?
2.Is either of the elementrary schools inside the community better than the other ?
3. Any concerns with the trails in the late evenings for safety ?
4. Was not able to be there during "rush" hours. WHat is the average commute time from FHR to SOuth Tampa ?
Thanks

17th percentile is good.. the bars may not look good, but my highschool in MA was in the 78th percentile, and we never had any issues with students getting sick.

Bevis is better than FIshhawk as it has been #1 school in the state a few times but Fishhawk Creek is really good as well.

Commute from FH to South Tampa (MacDill) is about 45 minutes during traffic hour. However, there is a shuttle bus that leaves from the sports complex in FH to MacDill ... great service, saves on gas and toll.

You're exactly right. I have heard there is a lot of concern about health issues that have been directly related to this area.
