Raylroad Daze Festivul has come and gone for another year in Branchville, South Carolina --"The World's First Rail Road Junction."
As always, a great time was had by all.
For the first time ever, EddieOnTheRight rode on a float in the parade.
I wore an all wool Confederate Soldiers uniform on the float entered by The Sons of Confederate Veterans of the Rivers Bridge Camp 842 of the SCV which holds its monthly meetings at Sycamore, Allendale County, South Carolina.
My South Carolina ancestor -- Private Thomas H. Hightower, CSA -- Company I , 5th South Carolina Cavalry.
I know of at least 8 Confederate ancestors of mine from the North Georgia side of my family who fought for Dixie and our independence and freedom back in the War Against Northern Agression in the 1860's.
River's Bridge Camp 842 was well represented at the Branchville Raylrode Daze Festivul. We once again operated our Quartermaster's Sales Tent in order to raise funds to support our efforts to place veteran's headstones on the graves of Confederates who have been left unmarked for over a hundred years. We also keep clean the graves of those who do have markers and place Confederate Battle Flags on their resting places on special days throughout the years.
We also call the roll of those who gave their lives for the citizens of the Confederacy and its beloved cause each year at the Court Houses of neighboring counties.
But it wasn't all work in Branchville for the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
We enjoyed our breaks for lunches and dinners.
The Bleu Pear which has been in business about three months now serves so much food with their meals that it is most impossible to finish them.
And the quality of the food at Branchville's newest eatery equals its quantity.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans had great feasts in Branchville during the 2006 Raylrode Daze Festivul.
See you there next year.
Keep the Battle Flag flying high.
