Thank you for shedding light on Teen Challenge. With all the discouraging news reports about the economy, murder, war, sex scandals, ect. it is nice to know that a program that is offering hope and purpose to so many is being noticed and praised. The article was fantastic!
While people recovering is definitely good news, Teen Challenge has been implicated in issues of questionable practices for various things. One of which is kicking people out of their program who they believe are a high risk to slip up and go back to using.
Funneling people into such programs when given the choice between jail and treatment is most certainly not above scrutiny. When you have laws which directly benefit these treatment organizations, they become a self-fulfilling prophecy. When cooking their books for "success rates" directly affects how many people are referred to them via the criminal justice system, I see a problem. Sorry to rain on the feel good parade, but Teen Challenge is highly questionable, and where their funding comes from has been scrutinized as well.(Just not by main stream media outlets such as this one.)
