What is going on? The school district hires 2 full time Special Ed teachers for RCHS, but fires the Middle School music teachers? Does RCHS really NEED 2 more special ed teachers? Sorry but I don't think we have that many kids that need special ed!

I'm angry as heck over the firing of the RCMS music teachers. My personal experience was with Mr. Reel, whom the kids loved and were inspired by his love of music and teaching abilities. Now I hear the district wants to start a before/after school child care program. There are already many programs available, like the one in Godley, which only cost $50 per week, not the $125 quoted in the Morris Daily Herald. Let's fix the problems we already have instead of finding ways to spend more money. Just my humble opinion.

Personally there is no love lost between me and Mrs. Miller. I saw her demean a poor child around christmas and it just sickened me. Mr Reel is totally different story. What a loss for our school! My daughter won't even be in band next year because of it. She is just devastated over him being fired. The students are just in tears over it. Next week she will passing around a card for him.
But hey, I guess special ed teachers are more important.

If they need money that bad why not cut a few sports coachs? And can someone tell me why the School wants to screw over the Godley Park after school program?

My kids went to the Godley Park one when it was still Miss Carrie's and it was still at the grade school.( Yeah- it's been a while!) But it's such a good deal, why do they want to mess with it? I don't get it.
As far as cutbacks I can think of alot of things they can cut back on instead of letting the music program go. They say they are making the high school teachers come over to the middle school to "fill in" but it's not going to be the same.

One of my kids, too, went to Ms. Kerri's when it was at the school. It was so perfect. My youngest now goes to Godley Park and I couldn't be happier. They have a wonderful before and after school program with activities for the kids. It also runs from 6 am to 6 pm. I don't know why our school board is determined to institute the same thing in our schools when a perfectly good program is already available and is being under utilized. As I said before, I think the firing of Mr. Reel was so very wrong. Perhaps they could cut the fat from their spending elsewhere. I'd like to hear the outcry from the community if they were to dare cut any of the sporting activities. Many of the band students have lost their interest in joining band next year because it's apparent to them that their school board doesn't think it's important.

My daughters have been in band for 3 years and they have both said they will not be joining next year.
I wonder what the school will say when the band class size is cut in 2 next year. How sad.

It's evident to me that that's what they want, for the band size to diminish so that they can cut it completely. So very sad, as statistics have proven that kids with musical training score better and do better in school. I'd like to see the statistics on sports, which the powers that be wouldn't dream of cutting.

HA HA HA! Can you see if we voted to cut out all the sport programs!!!!! Wow- I wouldn't want to be a cop in Braidwood if that happened. There would most definately be riots in the streets!

Look alittle further into the situations at hand. The school district is having to cut expenditures, but cutting a Music teacher and having 1 who will teach both H.S. and Jr. High that is one way to save. As for child care, they are trying to provide a service that I do believe I was told Godley did not want to be a part of. They do not have the staff and they themselves may not want to increase their staff to provide any more child care. If you have questions maybe it would be best to speak to the School Superintendant or a School Board Member or go the the next meeting.

Cuts are being made across the board, sports and by not rehiring after teachers retire as well as consolidating some positions within the district. The Park District program I do not believe is being cut, the school district is looking at additional options. I do not think the school is trying to mess with anyone elses programs.

Again as stated in a previous reply to another post, cuts are being made across the board. Some of the coaches you see out on the fields with the kids are simply volunteering their time, they are not being paid. There was discussion of cutting some sports programs and alot of people were not happy with that either. The school district is in a lose lose situation, cuts have to be made and they will not be able to please everyone in doing so. Noone ever wants to have to cut into their schools educational system or their athletic programs. So on the the flipside, would you rather your taxes or school fees go up to keep all the of the educational and athletic programs we have? I do believe that the school board is trying to make the best decisions in the students and taxpayers interest.

I do not think anyone wants to cut the music program. Music is important but equally so are the educational and athletic programs. The district has decided to cut back to one music teacher for the High School and Jr. High, I do not think they have any reason to believe that the music programs would diminish because of this. As for the kids who say they will not participate because Mr. Reel will no longer be their teacher, that is sad. I think we should encourage the kids to give it a try, not to give up on their music. If they really like music and band, they should try it with the new teacher before deciding to quit. That is just my opinion.

At the graduation ceramony Miss Kerri gave her scholarship, and the stated it was the last one she would be issuing to the RC school district. I found that interesting.

Why can't they fire the high school band teacher and just move Mr Reel over? It so obviuos the kids love him. I've never heard boo about the teacher but Mr Reel is one of the favorite teachers among all the students.

Thats because her last child graduated from high school on Sunday and she has no reason to give her scholarship anymore.

OK.
I thought maybe it had something to do with the new child care program.
