Can someone please clear somthing up for me? Rumor has it that the traveling boys baseball team is pretty much a shoe in for making the middle school baseball team in the fall. It has been confirmed by a coach, that the kids were in fact hand picked for that team. So much for the game of baseball, huh. Way to teach our kids that it's all about winning and less about giving it everything you got and having that pay off. Not to mention the fact that if the rumor is true it gives a zero percent chance to any other kid to make the middle school team no matter how hard they apply themselves. I would like to know how many kids on the travel team have parents that coach? People should really think about using the phrase "Future Comets," so lightly. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe that cuts like a knife for some of the kids that were not hand picked by one of their mentors. Considering these kids feelings should be the least you could do. Instead of rubbing it in their faces.

If your kid has skill and talent they will make the team ... My son played travel ball it was fun but he got burnt out ... I feel honestly to make it fair freshmen should help pick the team they know what a good ball player is ... a-lot of our kids are playing custer park ball just to go out and have fun ... some of them love the sport and are pretty good but after all the politics they just want to have fun High school is for drama not middle school ...

That's exactly how it is in Braidwood.
Be happy you don't have a daughter trying to get on a middle school team. That little witch that coaches volleyball and softball only picks the daughters of her "friends" in town.( Cough cough- that would be the families with the so called "right" last names.)

It's all a bunch of crap.

I say we just all homeschool. That would solve all the problems.

Maybe, just maybe our kids are better off without this influence.......are you a coach or is your super child on the team?

What influence is this that you speak of? The fact i've been working w/my son for 8yrs to make him better and lil Johnny shows up for practice can't catch or even throw the damn ball or even hit the ball. Stick to BBSA and if ur kid is good enough to make the school's team he will. QUIT UR DAMN CRYING.Has nothing to do w/ the fact most people crying on here are to damn lazy to work with there kid to make them better. Don't blame it on the coaches cuz if there willing to give up there time to coach, I'm sure a few extra mins working w/ there kids is a no brainer.

I for one was never blaming the coaches...hmmm hit a nerve did I? In fact I'm not sure what exactly that I said to deserve such a response.

Travel Ball makes an excellent point. But is it true that there is a child on the team who doesn't live in the district? Why not give a local kid a chance at that slot?

Most travel teams are made up of kids from all over not just from one town.I know the Joliet Victory/Morris Wizards tries out kids from all over. Just because you live here doesn't give ur kid the right to be on the team. Play BBSA and if ur kid is a standout try him out at travel ball.

Feb 22, 2010 Regarding the full time travel league in Braidwood, I would like to make note of a few things to set the record straight.
#1 - Travel baseball has been in this town for some time now.
# 2 - Travel baseball offers the opportunity for every individual to tryout for this team.
#3 - A newspaper ad was placed two weeks prior to BBSA's sign up for travel baseball tryouts.
#4 - The turn out was low for the 12U team, at the time I contacted them with interest for my son. There was going to be no team.
#5 - BBSA is a non competitive league, based on kids having fun.
#6 - Travel baseball is much more demanding on both the parent and child.
#7 - Children making the travel team have NOT been told of any special treatment when it comes to making the seventh grade team. All parents attending the travel team meeting, were made aware of this.
#8 -Determining whether your child should try out for a travel league, should not be based on a particular coach or coaches who may have chosen to go that route for their own children.
#9 - The thought process of trying out for a travel team should be based solely on your child's interest and the ability of your child's skills to compete for that team.
#10 - As long as you are in Reed Custer school district, you are able to tryout.
#11 - I have coached for BBSA for six years, and felt it was time to move my son to a more competitive league, for his personal baseball development.
#12 - As far as I know, the Sunday travel league for BBSA is still available, as long as they have a coach willing to take this task on. If you are interested, contact BBSA.
#13 - Again, this was a personal decision that I felt best for my child. Tryouts will be held again next year for available positions. Be sure to check your paper. I enjoyed my time coaching for BBSA, and appreciate the hard work the board members have done throughout the years and feel that they have done a great job.
Sincerely,

Read #10. This is from a TOPIX discussion from Feb 22 of this year. Living here does not entitle kids to be on the team, but NOT living here should dq the kid as far as the post is concerned.

The parents & their players need to enjoy their elite team now. Only a few of those kids will be able to do something with their talent beyond high school, and they won't appreciate the hard work that goes in to EARNING a spot since their dads created spots for them growing up. So let them have their travel team. Other kids can work on their games and your kid runs the risk of retiring due to an injury just because he wanted to please his ol' man and a bunch of other guys living vicariously through him.
Have a great season Future Comets.

You people are all Idiots !!

It's already cut and dry who is making the Team !!

Have you EVER seen a Coach's kid NOT make the all-star team ?? ALWAYS !!

It was the same crap 30 years ago, and it will be the same crap 30 years from now.

No one was personally put down or insulted. No one argues that parents should work with their kids and should want the best for them. The issue is that there are guidelines for this team, and the people running it don't follow those guidelines themselves. The adults have their stubborn pride, but ultimately it's the kids who suffer.

Someone even pointed out the pssibility of a child ineligible for the team being on the team and no one has addressed whether or not that's true or how that happened. It could be that all the adults involved in the travel team have more class than to address that issue here. But they all read topix so they might as well get it out in the open.

I pity your kid!!

You are Coach I'm sure, because nobody else seems to care but you!!

What, does the truth hurt?? Coach's kids ALWAYS make the Team, play the better positions, and bat better in the order.

Does that make them better players? NO !! The Coach's figure that if they are putting all the time in coaching and such, well then their kid is going to reap the benefits!!

This only hurts the kid when he gets to higher level ball because all his life he has had smoke blown up his butt about how good he is, but in reality he stinks!! Then the PARENTS have a melt-down, the kid sees a shrink, Disney World is cancelled, and the old man kicks the poor dog !!

I have seen this many times ( from my double-wide ) and it ALWAYS repeats itself.

Do the kid a favor, don't live your second childhood thru your kid, teach him the value of TEAM sport, how to sit out, and have fun being a kid. Winning is not everything.

I wonder if when the kids try out for Baseball in Middle school are they permitted to wear their travel team or all_star jersey's? Seems like it might make more sense to band any uniforms of any kind. So that the coaches of Middle school ball could make a unbiased decission. Then it wouldn't matter who there Daddy was!
What has not been talked about is the fact that they refer to their kids as the Future Comets. Come on, what message does that send? So sad to see people teach children its about who you know than about dedication and character and skill. So much for America's favorite past time.

Don't you think the coaches know who all the kids are playing on those teams.
