How long after we call to certify do we wait before we can use our debit card?

You get the debit card in about a week, but you have to activate it by phone and there will not be a balance on it yet. He probably has a 'wait week' from the date of filing - so for that week he will not get benefits. After that he should get, but he still has to 'call in' every 2 weeks. Also he can choose direct deposit instead of the debit card.

I also agree that direct deposit is the best way to go if that option is there for you.

This sucks.

On top of each ATM fee, the Card Company charges $.95 also. Balance inquiry costs another $.50.
Overdraft fee:$15.00
Card closure fee:$2.50
Live customer service discussions:$1.25*

Just another way to suck money out of the people that need it the most.

Many places I've found won't accept the card for bill payment. I logged in to IDES today and changed mine back to direct deposit, even though I specifically checked that when I signed up.

I'll be canceling the card as soon as I can get all my money out What a mess. And now I have to to pay to get my money and pay to cancel a useless card.

All of this bullshit is ignorance, all she did was asked for an answer to a question she did not at all ask for anyone's personal advice about how she spends that money. Also, for you idiots that keep saying unemployment is basically welfare, its not and if you didn't know that then maybe you need to do a little research before you come on here criticizing and maybe you shouldn't be allowed unemployment when your ass get fired since its welfare. Then we will see just what you think about unemployment then.

I am hoping this is true. I heard eventually you will have to pass a drug screen in order to meet one of the qualifications for unemployment. They need to do this for the Link and other assistance they offer. If you were to get a job, you would have to successfully pass a drug screen so you should have to pass one for assistance. Its not fair to the working people that follow the rules and the unemployed people don't have to follow the rules.

The comment about unemployment and this being a part of welfare??? Firstly, any company that pays into Federal unembployent (Futa) and IL unemployment (SUTA) are for themselves or employees they may have. No one can collect unemployent benefits if they have never worked in their lives and benefits are paid based upon your earnings not someone else's so in realty this is all the contributions your previous employers have paid into your benefit funds and of course if you become unemployed they will take those funds (depending on how much was paid in for you) to determine your benefits so GAB who says he pays for them even though he has no employees- you're mistaken you are paying for them on your behalf if ever you should become unemployed otherwise if you claim no employees you do not have to pay these quarterly and taxes that you pay on merchandise you sell are sales tax and that is a whole different scenerio. SO UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS ARE NOT WELFARE... these are individuals who worked and by misfortune are temporarily out of work + benefits do not continue forever there is a total benefit amount paid into from years of working so once this is met you have to work somemore to accrue more benefit funds.

I have been reciving my unemploment payments via the debit card. I just recently changed to direct deposit. Will my money still be in there on Wednesday morning like it was with the debit card? My money was always put on my debit card on Wednesday morning by 8am. Does anyone know if this is the same time frame as direct deposit? Thanks for your help.

my husband signed up on the 11th. His wait week was from the 4th until the and he had to file a new claim. We stii haven't received debit card. we called the number fromwachovia and was told it was issued on the 19th. today is the 23rd and we still haven't gotten the card. We were also told not to call back until Feb 2nd if we don't get it. Does that sound like maybe the card is lost?

Do you mean timely as in from the time the card was issued? We called the Wachovia number and was told the card had been issued on the 19th of january. It is now the 23rd and we still haven't gotten it. I filed the claim on the 11th of Jan. Thanks for any help you can offer.

But there is no guarentee he will get unemployment unless he was laid off. If he quit-forget it! If he was fired-good luck! The past employer can contest the unemployment and it will likely be denied. Sad but true!
