My call with the Mayor

I have just hung up with the Mayor of Bradshaw, and I am happy to say that he was very receptive and all to willing to work with the people and get things done. I ran some of the ideas that I had past him and he seems all too eager to work with us. In fact, he has made me aware of some ideas he has in mind, they go hand in hand with the ideas I have had myself. The mayor and I both agreed that if we have enough people that will work with the town then we would see a difference. He has started already working n some of the finer points, and so have.

Let me clear a few things up, When I came here that first night and posted the topic Bradshaw Misappropriation of funds I did not intend it to be a flame fest, or to seem like I was saying that the mayor was swindling the town or state. If that is what people took from what I said then they misunderstood what I was saying, Hell maybe I could have chosen a better name for the thread but I did not, that was my bad.

The mayor was very willing to work with us, and meet with us to discuss ideas, and get things started. So in short, the ball is rolling now, and the people who read this can choose to both be part of the solution and help us all make this town a better place or you can choose to be part of the problem and do nothing.

Ok, let me answer your post point by point…

Am I backing out on what I said?

No, I am not; I said the town needs change, and it does. I said the town has old dilapidated and burnt buildings that are unsafe and an eye sore, and it does. I said that the town needs to do something about the parks and take them back from the drug dealers, and it does.

A few others say that the citizens need to get out there and clean up the parks, clean up the buildings and such their selves. What these people neglect to see is that until the town backs the citizens up and gives the go ahead to do these things, any citizen found doing this could be in trouble and pay trespassing fines. Dont take my word for it ask the mayor, because he himself told me the same thing this morning when we spoke.

Do you ever recall me saying that the mayor was on drugs or that he was one of the drunks at the parks? No, the reason is that I did not say that. Do you ever recall me saying that he took money from the town to buy whatever he owns? No you, because I did not say that either. Do you recall me saying that the mayor was the one who caused these things to be wrong with the town or that he was the entire blame? That is right I did not say that either, so no you do not remember hearing that from me now do you.

What I did say was that the problems have accumulated over the span of more than a few mayors’ terms in office, and that as the current mayor it was up to L.C to act and make changes other wise it would continue to get worse. What I did say was that the mayor has the ability to pass any ordinance that is needed to make the town better, and to enforce those ordnances. I cannot say that no ordnances exist, but if there is they do not seem to be doing very much good. So you ask do I take back what I said about the mayor and the situation in town, the answer is NO.

You claim I talked trash about the mayor and the town, Wrong, I said, the town needs to change and be better than it is. I spoke about the drunks, the drug heads, the buildings, etc… and that is all based on fact. Now if you consider someone saying that the town needs to be improved before we lose what few people we do have as talking trash about the mayor, well that is your problem not mine, I cant help it if you dont understand the difference.

As for the town meetings, I have called the town hall more than a few times in the past to ask when the meetings was and never did get a straight answer, only after coming here did I find out the meetings were held the 2nd Tuesday of the month. There has been no meeting since then so no I have not attended yet, that dont mean I will not be.

Your right I dont live in Bradshaw, but I care about the town just as much as you or anyone else, and I dont want to see it go down hill more than it already is. The mayor is willing to work with us on this, so lets all get the ideas up as to what you would like to see done in Bradshaw to improve it

Irespect someone whether they live in Bradshaw or not attempting to clean things up. I admire him for his efforts and for publicly announcing that his topic title was inappropriate. I see good things happening for Bradshaw and we need to put aside grudges, accusations, and work with citizens and mayor for our betterment. Quit the non sense, form a committee, work on priorities, projects, one at a time, and enable our people here in town to do their share. You will be surprised when we work together and quit this backbiting and trying to see who can "look good" in the public eye. We want other towns in McDowell to model after us. Teamwork!!!!!!!!!!

Good Post , Sweetie. It takes a whole community to help the town, not just those who live in the town limits. The citizens who use the town for business and shopping want to go to a nice place. This benefits everyon for miles around.

Thank you both for your post, your right this is not about who looks good or who looks bad. People need to look at it like this, if I had the choice to go to one town 30 miles away and buy the same items, and pay similar prices, and be in a clean town or go to my hometown and do my shopping in a dirty run down area, I hate to say it but the 30 mile trip would be a welcome one.

People seem to forget that most of our people instead of doing business in town they go to grundy, richlands, tazewell, and Bluefield...

so not only is another town getting the money and support but in more cases than not another state is getting it.

First, this has gone on long enough and I could care less what anyone thinks or says.
I came here to start a thread trying to get people to get out and support changes in Bradshaw. I stated the obvious, that Bradshaw has some serious issues, and among them are old dilapidated / burnt buildings that are a hazard and an eye sore. Also among these things as I stated are things such as parks and basketball courts that are used for a hang out by drunks and druggies more than anything else is, and let’s not forget the trash and junk cars that are all over the place within town limits.
I posted that Bradshaw gets help from the government, and that it does not seem to be used for what it was intended, because if it was it should be obvious where the money is going.
I spoke of the road conditions in Bradshaw area, and yes, I know that this is an issue for the state road garage that is next on my agenda. I am sure they would rather do something about the roads than they would see this state get a lawsuit against them the next time someone is killed, or property destroyed due to the road conditions.
I suggested that anyone who sees people throwing out trash, using / selling drugs, or publicly drunk, to call the cops and that if we all do this you would see a difference. I know that some people are afraid to let these people know who you are when you call but if you ask that, your name not be public then you have that right. I stated that Bradshaw is going down the hill more each day we live it is falling apart, and it is no matter how many wish it were not.
Instead of people giving a damn about the town though they started slinging mud and childish BS games, but we will look at that in just a few.
I talked about the road conditions in Lex and the dangers that is caused by the lack of work being done by the state road, and about people getting drunk and shooting up in the old Harmon’s coal tipple. The state road has been contacted about the conditions and have promised to get over this way and get things done (we will wait and see if it happens) and the cops have been called more than once about the tipple bottom, I hope they do something if not there is always someone above them.

I talked about the old D & T and the trash scattered all about the outside, and the junk cars that are half way exposed (next to the road). It seemed though that instead of people wanting to get things done and being interested in the changes in the town, they wanted to nit pick about where someone lived, was it in town limits or not? Well who really cares, its all about getting things done, but I guess if someone wants to find an excuse to do nothing they can always find one.
As I said, the people cannot do things without having the town backing them up (as the mayor agreed) because if they try then they have legal issues that they will be faced with. For example, if the town is not backing us we can get in trouble for trespassing, but if they are behind us there is not allot that can be done.
I stated before that I do not think that going to a meeting will get anything done. Even though I have had some promising comments from the mayor I will still not say things will be done, until I am proved wrong. However when they are being done then I will be the first to come here and tell it and say I was wrong.
Now, instead of people here trying to stay adult about things and stopping the name-calling and mud slinging they would prefer to act like kids. That is right they would rather go to web sites and spam someone’s email address with things that they have nothing to do with. As I stated this is a form of identity theft, and I am going to really enjoy seeing these people go to jail, it is already in the hands of the internet company, and the web sites that were abused with this game.
I have to say that I find it funny to see that no one is against this type of tactics, I also hear that I am not the only one they have resorted to doing this too but that is neither here nor there.

yes there are burnt buildings but if you want go ask the owners if you can tear them down but ill tell ya right now thell tell ya to go to hell
also i dont see any junk cars or trash in the town limits i think the workers keep as clean as they can as for d&t building thats jr mclanahans and he is working on it and if you dont like it take it up with him and if you want to report someone around here you go do it cause i like living and sure in the hell dont want burnt out and if you dont think that wont happen man you still living in that fanatsy world weve all knowed youve always been in
as for the road towards lex the town doesnt have a dam thing to do with it go call the state road and good luck with that cause thats one you better not hold your breath on

First old lady, I do not intend to ASK anyone if I can or can not tear down their trash. You see that is there responsibilty to do so and if they choose not to then the Building inspector and firemarshals can get involved and make sure that they DO.

you say there is no junk cars, you do realize where the town limits end dont you? the D & T is in town limits and across the road from D & T there are cars half burroied and sticking out in clear sight.

As for the roads dont worry I am dealing with that and as I told someone at the state road today, they can do something or when someone gets killed they can be sued, and they can and will be sued if someone tears out the fence line at my home again due to their lack of common sense.
