Bradenton man arrested for sexual battery of girl

A Bradenton man has been arrested for the sexually battery of a young girl. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says it arrested 40-year-old Kelley P. McDermid on Wednesday.

I met Kelley a couple of times at his pawn shop and he always semed like a great guy. He talked about his Christian life and his young son. Who would have guessed?

You can not even be serious having the nerve to think someone like this idiot has the chance on being proved innocent with D.N.A. evidence in such cases. I sure hope that New York has better schooling for the benefit of the citizens then the stupidity that you displayed in your post. There has not been a guilty verdict yet, won't you feel stupid for bashing him if it's not true.To all those that want to bash this man... why don't you fall to your knees and pray for him instead! Kelley has been a friend of mine for over 15 years. He would be the first to admit that he is far from the perfect person that we all should aspire to be, but I have known few people as open or encouraging to those around him.
There will be a trial and a verdict, but until then we should keep ALL of those involved in our thoughts and prayers. Someone has injured a child tremendously - be it through sexual molestation or by manipulating her into falsely accusing someone of the worst of crimes. The center of our thoughts and prayers should be on the child, and anyone found guilty of contributing to HER current ordeal should be made fully aware of the damage they have done.

I hope that Kelley is innocent. If he isn't guilty, his reputation is ruined, if he is guilty, his reputation is ruined. It is a hard charge to fight. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.

i was his next door neighbor its hard to think that this stuff happened in the house next door. he seemed like a nice guy but that goes to show you that looks are desieving. i myself am a christian but no sin like that can never be forgiven at least not in the eyes of the people and the little girl that this happened to i will pray for that girl because no one should have to go through something like this at sucha young age or ever for that matter.

Well, I have waited a bit to chime in here. I have known Kelley for almost 30 years. I truly do not understand this and am in as much denial as shock and anger. I feel so badly for his children, and for the alleged victim. I was his first friend when he moved to Florida from Upstate New York. I knew most of his family. I read recently his brother Jerry died, maybe two weeks ago. His parents, must be going through hell. And I feel so sorry for them. I am praying for the victim. I am praying for the truth to be revealed, whatever that truth is. Kelley has always fought hard for his children to my knowledge. He was regarded as a professional by the sherrifs department in his business dealings and given awards. He held an MBA, and previously worked in the mental health field. Certainly, to my knowledge, in Highschool, a period of time that Kelley and I were not very close, I think he may have had some addictions to substances....nothing I was ever really aware of as we had different friends in High School. I can tell you that in my time with him as a child....never any signs of abuse in his household...and this type of behavior to my understanding is often learned behavior. I can not and will not turn my back on my friend. If he has commited this mortal sin, face it , he will burn in Hell forever and deserves to. However, for now, I think its correct to put focus on his legal rights and those of the accusing victim. His life is in the hands of the justice system. His soul is in the hands of God. If he is found guilty, then so be it, and may all attention be paid to the victim. If he is found legitamately innocent, then hopefully the Truth will find a way to heal all involved. Judging form the one report released byt he SHT, quoting a phone conversation...well, its pretty damning. But media is media, and we have all been given the constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial. Lets focus on this and not the stereotypes. And of course, lets focus on the healing. There is nothing right that can be said here. A horrible horrible tragedy in any outcome.

I just found out today with regards to Kelley's arrest and the charges he faces. I have known Kelley since at least high school and graduated in the same class with him. I have also known him since he had his pawn shop on manatee avenue some 8 years ago. Like those who have stated knowing Kelley, not once has he ever given any indications of anykind to do something like this. However, I am in full agreement with several basic facts: 1) Let us not forget the victim (actual or cohearced)and the families this tragic event will be effecting for many years to come. 2) He has legal rights like each and everyone of us! Legal rights that are guaranteed by the US Constitution, so while everyone is entitled to their opinion, also a right, it is not our position to be the street corner judge and pass judgement. Trust me, if we where in his postition being accused and I mean ACCUSED, each and everyone of us would sing a different tune. 3) Even if he is found innocent, society will not let him forget this situation because people just don't want to believe in the good, but always the bad. 4) If he is found guilty, then by all means he needs to face the music and be sentenced to the max. 5) "He, who is without sin cast the first stone" So, take all your anger, shock, and rage and redirect it where it needs to be spent. Let us all pray for all those who have been wronged, abused, and mistreated. Let us pray for all the victims, families, friends, communities, and those who have to serve on juries and the bench. Do I make sense? Am I getting my point across? I do not condone any form of abuse the victim has had to experience and I also do not condone social misconduct and media lynch mobs either!

thanks. and to anyone who thinks this did'nt really happen to me, your wrong. i would never make any of this up, ever. im 13 years old, and i know right from wrong. please don't act like i'm a clueless child. i hope he stays in jail forever.

I'm going to assume "marley" is the victim here as I type this...IF this happened to you, you are the victim & it is not your fault. I believe this is getting ready to go to court in the very near future so go in with your head held high and tell the truth.

I posted about Kelley back in February and I'll say it again.
I met Kelley, he seemed like your average good guy running a business and trying to make a life for his son and himself.
He discussed going to Church with me. I'd never have believed he could do this.
I was in total shock!!

Kelley has been found guilty. Please stop wasting your negative energy on him and focus on the child, his children, family, the jurors, his friends, the community. Donate time, money, supplies to an abuse shelter. Find something positive to do with your energy and time. God bless you.

This guy hasn't been found guilty of anything. This could be nothing more than a false accusation. In these type of cases all it takes is a false accusation to establish probable cause, arrested, and charged (Prima Facie). This guy could be the victim. So many ignorent people jump to conclusions until something like this happens to them.
